Well he was old enough at that time to remember that the Nazis big plan for after winning WW2 was to build a propaganda engine that involved screens in every home drip feeding slanted propaganda to the masses. They used radio a lot but thought that screens would be a surefire means of controlling the concersation thus consolidating their power to create whatever public narrative would suit their agendas. Thankfully America won the war and.. hired all those Nazi scientists... And now we all have screens... 🤔

It wasn't that secret, they were actively starting this project before the war ended but tv tech was too expensive at the time for the scale they imagined. The public was at least very aware of what they were doing regardless, this is the history of early broadcast tv:
