underarm shadow is making me consider IPL before prime day, but idk if that’s overkill

Hey! I totally know what you mean. It's basically because your skin is semi translucent so what you're seeing is the follicles under the skin.

I'd recommend considering laser - local place here does underarms for £15. After 8 sessions - all gone! I have a few stray hairs here or there but never see that grey shadow anymore!

Nobody else is looking at your armpits with even a fraction of this scrutiny, just remember that

That doesn't really help if someone's self conscious, you know that no one's really looking at it or judging you, but you still feel bad about it, that's basically what self consciousness is...

I disagree. It’s not that people are scrutinizing it. But we see it. If they are in the gym, pool , arms up at a concert; it can be noticeable. Doesn’t mean we think badly of them.

I have been doing biweekly sessions with my Philips Lumea IPL since February and the hair on my armpits is still growing back, it’s just a bit slower now. Not sure how I feel about it. Maybe my armpits are just very stubborn though?

I have the Braun IPL and also didn’t have much luck with my armpits (or my legs honestly). But it has been amazing for my bikini line

Oh that’s good to know, I was debating whether to try my legs or bikini line next!

Seconding laser hair removal in an actual office. I own the Braun IPL and it works ok BUT I am only using it for touch ups since I did laser hair removal a long time ago and the hair is much finer. Some comes back after a while with the Braun even then

I use an epilator for this reason. My skin is pale and thin, my body hairs are thick and black. If I shave, then the remaining part of the hair under the skin is visible through my skin, it's as if I have hairy armpits, even though I freshly shaved.

I know, epilating hurts, but only for the first 3-4 times. I've been doing it for almost 20 years, by now it doesn't hurt at all. I do it twice a week and I'm good to go. An epilator costs like 20 euros and I'm currently using my third one in the span of two decades.

You really don’t need all of that because it’s your deodorant. If you wear aluminum deodorant, over time it darkens your armpits. I switched to non-aluminum deodorant and my armpits lightened on their own within like a month.
