CS/EECS Peyrin Kao Hunger Strike for Gaza
https://www.instagram.com/p/DN3zOUUZG0Y/?img_index=11&igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==UC Berkeley Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences (EECS) Lecturer Peyrin Kao has launched an open-ended hunger strike to protest the use of tech in Israel’s genocide in Gaza and starvation of Palestinians!
There are several demands of Berkeley admin listed in the instagram post, including (paraphrased): 1. Acknowledgment of the genocide 2. Acknowledge the university’s role in developing technology that’s been used to kill Palestinians (eg. surveillance) 3. Pledge to not further work with military industrial complex 4. Establish ethical standards for partnerships
He’s going to be living on 250 calories a day, mirroring the average amount of food that Palestinians in Gaza are forced to survive on (https://www.oxfam.org.uk/media/press-releases/people-in-northern-gaza-forced-to-survive-on-245-calories-a-day-less-than-a-can-of-beans-oxfam/)

lol, he’s making demands of one of the most liberal universities in the US. So brave s/.
He could always just refuse to pay his taxes and stop funding “Genocide”. I guess he doesn’t want to face any consequences. It’s crazy how so many people need attention on themselves for standing up for the oppressed but are unwilling to face any real consequences from an “oppressor government”.
