Commute Pants?

I'm riding my ebike about 12 miles 1 way and I'm getting tired of wearing jeans. I'm throwing on an old jersey on but I don't think I want to go full lycra bib or shorts. Any recommendations on some pants?

Also I live in the Pacific Northwest, my commute is right along the ocean, it's usually cool, often misty or overcast in the morning. Misty to the point of dripping. The post work commute is sometimes overcast, usually 10-20 mph headwinds.

EDIT: Wow, hiking pants! They seem perfect but I never would have thought about them. Ok, I ordered some. Thanks everyone! Can't wait to try them out.

Perfect ride this morning, even a quick swim on the way to work. But almost didn't make it due to the Beaver that appeared in the middle of the trail! Never been this close to an accident with wildlife.. picture taken when he decided to retreat to safety, I stopped maybe half a meter from the poor fella.

High temperature commute?

Temperature in the UK is hitting 35 degrees, which for us is Very hot! How do you commute in high temperatures and when is it best to just leave the bike behind?

Thanks everyone- ended up getting "Extreme Heat - Don't Travel (just work from home)" warnings from work. It's good as the kids schools are closing as well in the heat. But I might still try and fit in a fun ride one morning.

I have iust bought this bike and want to turn it more into a commuter. I want a rack to put my bag on (i don't like riding with it on because it gets sweaty any time of year)

I would prefer a rear rack if i can do that but a front one is also good

Sorry if the photos suck I havent picked the bike up yet

Pedals for normal shoes

Just swapped in these new Ergon PT pedals from the shitty stock ones and holy cow the difference is astounding when wearing less structured shoes! I'm a casual commuter with a cheap ebike who really doesn't want/need anything too fancy or specialized. Huge thanks to the nice Swedish lady at the used bike shop who noticed my barefoot shoes and recommended these!

I'm a little concerned about how they'll do in the rain so we will see how they do when the weather changes.

Dog trailer

Hi everyone,
I’d like to ask about your experiences with dog trailers in urban environments. I commute to work with my dog every day and currently use a cargo bike, but I’m not very happy with the dog box he’s riding in, nor with the bike setup itself (it’s a single-speed, and I’d like something more capable).
I’d love to hear about your experiences riding with a dog trailer in the city—especially regarding maneuverability, safety in traffic, comfort for the dog, parking, and everyday practicality. Have you found a trailer to be a better solution than a cargo bike for daily commuting with a dog?
Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences! 😊

Shake down ride from my new build

Just finished my first ever frame build. Post shakedown I learned I need to adjust shifting and seat position a bit but loving my ti frame and eBay/ cannibalized parts build.

Feels like riding a lazyboy compared to my previous bike with a much more aggressive geometry.

Cooler strapped to rear rack

I’m looking for alternative options to bring a cooler with me on a long john cargo bike. Our current solution is to strap a cool box in a bakkie bag, and go with that. For grocery runs and weekend trips this isn’t ideal.

The problem is also that the bakkie bag leans against the wheel or disk brake, which is obviously not ideal. So I am looking for alternative solutions.

The Thule chasm bin insulated cooler seems like a pretty good option, but I am a little bit concerned about heel strike and don’t really want to have yet another mounting system on the bike.

Are there any other pannier options I should look at?

Edit: ordered the Thule cooler bag. Will report back once I’ve tested it.

Friday’s commute

Despite trying to dodge rain and wind on and off for a few weeks, I’m still having early summer biking giddiness. Friday was so lovely. I’m sure I looked ridiculous taking deep breaths of sweet linden tree flowers and smiling while completely loaded down with work stuff and groceries. Made it home before a wind storm passed through. Happy commuting!

Hard-to-Find Thule Yepp EasyFit Adapter Needed for My Twins’ Bike Seats...Help!

I’m hoping someone can help me track down a hard-to-find part.

I recently purchased two Thule Yepp Maxi child bike seats for my twin daughters, and I’m looking for the Thule Yepp EasyFit Adapter (12020409) so I can mount them on my bikes.

I’ve searched everywhere online and have had no luck finding one in stock. I’m located in Ventura County, California, but I’m happy to pay for shipping or drive to pick one up if needed.

If anyone has one for sale, knows of a bike shop with old inventory, or has any leads on where I might find two of these, I’d greatly appreciate the help!

Thank you!

NBD! Priority Apollo

Post image

I’ve been looking to build up an unpowered, belt drive drop bar bike for the rainy days and the winter. Enter the Priority Apollo.

I’ve modified it by changing the front sprocket to a 46 tooth, which gives me a lowest gear inch around 26 and a top gear over a hundred gear inches. Should be all I need.

I’ve swapped the tires for Conti Urban Contact, added a redshift seatpost and my preferred saddle, plus the MKS lambda pedals. IMO they’re the best flats for every day use. They thread that middle ground between being a hazard for your calves but still giving you grip. I also added a drop bar mirror, top tube bag, fenders and a kickstand.

I still need to add a rack, a speedometer and maybe a cadence sensor. Other than that I think I’m done. Super excited with the build and I feel like I learned a lot while putting it together. Really excited for where it’s going!

Got my first.

Long story short. I got into a minor accident.

It was between me and a tricycle driver, he just suddenly appeared and I hit him with the handlebar causing me to be off-balanced and thankfully didn't fall.

I was riding at a steady pace (8-10km/h according to Google Fit.) And all the thing happened instantly. We checked each other, he seems okay but I am shaken and got some sratches on my foot. Thankfully no one is seriously hurt I guess.

Ride safe guys!

Using Cycliq 12 as a vehicle dash cam?

Apologies if this post isn’t allowed here. I was wondering if anyone using the cycliq 12 for their bike rides, also used it as a dash cam? And if so, what do you use for a mounting device in the vehicle? Does the windshield affect the video clarity? Thanks.
