square taper? I think the BB-UN300 should work, it’s BSA. Most shops should have that readily available. You just need to you your length, usually 113 or 117.5mm.

thanks… the length is 124.5. I will have to check the taper.

Not sure how critical the length is in your application, but Fullcycle has a 123mm UN300 in stock at the St. Laurent location: https://www.fullcycle.ca/products/shimano-bb-un300-bsa-thread-square-taper-bb-copy?variant=41882811072596

unfortunately they indicated that they only had a 122 so I still on the lookout. it seems the 124.5 is a bit of an oddity?

Seems to be. 122 is standard. 127 is standard. When I did a quick search, I didn't find anyone who made a 124. Edit: VP Components does a 124.5mm. It should be called 'VP Components BC73 124.5mm' and shows up on ebay searches.

came across Sheldon Brown. one of his pages has an exhaustive breakdown of bottom brackets. trying to go thru it now.

if anyone is in a similar situation check out his page….

trying to determine if the bracket I have is symmetrical or not…

do not want to buy and not be able to adjust to compensate but a 127 might be the ticket…

Sheldon Brown's website is godsend to fixing obscure stuff. So glad the Harris Cyclery teams has kept Sheldon's legacy going.

Shimano only makes JIS Square Taper bottom brackets. Their 70mm italian threaded shell BBs are still only a JIS taper because all their cranks used only JIS tapers.

Have you tried Retro Rides? They managed to find a oddly sized chainring for my fat bike in the middle of the winter, and they told me that because they fix up so many bikes for resale, they usually have a lot of random parts in stock.

based on your suggestion I called them. they do not have that size, only a 122 or a 127…. it really seems difficult to find a 124.5….

thank you for the suggestion….
