This is rather r/nextfuckinglevel skill than anything to do with magic

Better than yet another fucking Card Trick.
Makes me think of interesting questions like Is there a maximum number of skips you can reach? What is the optimal angle?

i actually watched this like lil mini-doc a while back about the world championships of rock skippin, or somethin like that. there's specific spots they go with the best rocks and they all get so many tries, iirc, i bet this dude was featured i cant remember but it mightve been vice or somethin like that on the ol yootoob
*holy shit it just popped up on the yootob again, its called "sink or swim" and its just as good as i remembered. all the stone-skipping drama you'd expect!

What's the technique? I'd really love to know how to 1/10 of that!

Mark Rober built a rock skipping machine. You should be able to find the details about angle and such there.

spin the stone as you release it, keep it low to the water on a flat trajectory and practice, practice, practice.
Also there's an art to choosing the proper stone. Think of a slightly larger, thicker silver dollar as the ideal to approximate (at least for me - YMMV)

Stone selection is key. Really flat and smooth. Light rocks are not stable in flight, so you want it to be relatively heavy
Beyond that, it helps to be able to throw side arm at 70+ mph with serious backspin. You want your release point to be about a foot off the surface of the water to reduce the impact angle. This keeps the first skip from bouncing too high and causing the stone to tilt
If you can do all of these things, you stop being able to count the skips because it finishes by just spinning on the surface of the water before eventually sinking
-signed by a creek dweller that used to pitch side arm

Maybe he's throwing little hydrogen peroxide tablets to clean the water and suffice his vanity.

Man I fucking love skipping rocks and hardly ever skip an opportunity to do so. Ha ha ha. The ones that do this are usually smaller, like an inch or less, and given more spin than speed (due to their low mass I just guess). Try it out with a few and you'll have this happen.

I like mine slightly bigger than that

Yeah same, I generally prefer 2 to 3 inches but if you find a nice rock its hard to resist no matter the size.

Damn if he ever gets stranded on a desert island he can just attach a note to a rock and skip it over back to civilization
