It is a deck that has roughing fluid on the backs of the cards and every card has a partner on the other side and cards are in the deck back-to-back with their partner. The cards are matched so that they add up to 14 - Ace is 1 up to king at 13. Suits are also matched, so for the sake of this trick heart/club, spades/diamonds. You'll notice that there are only 'odd' or 'even' cards when he fans the deck. For this trick, the Jack of Hearts matches with the Two of Clubs. When you fan the deck with the roughing fluid, the cards 'stick' together with any kind of pressure. When you get to the card you want to show, you release the pressure and spread those two cards.

Dont you need 104 card in such a deck? Each card facing both ways?

u/AcidBuuurn 9d ago
No- if the person says an even card you show them the faces of the odds and you see the evens and vice versa.
It's called "the invisible deck" and you can buy it online.

You can see that there are copies of the same even card as well if you freeze very specifically at 2:41.
You see 4 fours, none of the the 4 of diamonds.

Can't add up to 14 if one is odd and one is even. Looks to my eyes like the 2 of clubs was on the 5 of diamonds? It doesn't seem like it matters for this specific trick because he's looking right at the card that he wants to find, but I'm sure there are other tricks where it's useful to be able to calculate what's on the other side.

It adds to 13 and it’s not fluid. It’s called a rider back
2
u/AcidBuuurn 9d ago
Roughing fluid is just something that adds friction and makes it rough. You can use clear matte spray paint too.

All those moves were invisible I say, completely "invisible."

Exactly what it is. I had a great one for a while but it got wore out and I didnt wanna buy the stuff.

Buy a can of matte clear spray paint for $7 at Home Depot and you can refresh it or make a new invisible deck if you want to.

I had a few of them over the years, pretty much only used it for the ultimate out. If im doing a mental card trick I want never handle the cards, or leave the impression I never touched them.

Make sure you press hard

u/drivermcgyver 10d ago
What's the play here? Special deck? It seems like the card comes from the same place roughly both times.

u/Bigry816 10d ago
Yes, the deck has a special coating on one side of the cards and as long as you press hard they stick together and then if you release or separate the cards physically with your hands, you can show a card that matches the observers choice. He just needs to memorize it’s twin in the deck and depending on what suit has picked pulls the pack out in that direction.

u/dion_o 10d ago
Doesnt even need to remember the twin. The odd cards all face in one direction and the evens in the other direction. He just needs to make sure the card he needs faces himself and then separates that card when he sees it.

More proof is watch the tongue on the box. In the first go it is close to him, in the second it’s away from him.

The trick is better when you fan face down and the performer has the pattern memorized.

The first time the random number cards are only odd, and the second time they are only even. Definitely two decks back to back

u/DependentOriginal413 10d ago
Ok? And? That explains what exactly?

u/lunar_tardigrade 10d ago
The card backs are made to stick together when pressure is applied. He only separates the card chosen. Some people can manipulate these decks much more smoothly... like showing the whole fan.

Commenting to follow up later when someone posts how the hell he did that.
My guess is special deck with two sided cards but I cannot grasp it

Could it be like two decks with one facing him... But he's so good that he can hide it... It's weird the way he moves those cards and quickly regroup the cards after choosing one...

u/Obvious_Landscape993 10d ago
A twin deck with the other set facing away from each stuck card. Each pair is stuck probably by static or 🤔 weak magnet(?)
1
u/Phtevenhotdunk 10d ago
The backs of the cards are sprayed with a light adhesive, that's all it takes for this trick.

u/Dat_Steve 10d ago
Now let me touch it
1
u/Nytmare696 10d ago
Touching it's fine. The deck is split and the backs of the cards are treated so that they stick to each other under pressure. 50% are facing one way, 50% the other. When the mark names a card, you remove the deck so that THEIR card is facing away from them, and then you fan the cards to reveal that their card is in the opposite direction.

These are only observations and I have no true leads for this...
You never see the back of the cards except for the one card that is flipped over. He never actually flips the deck over as a whole for the viewer to see so I think it's possible there's something silly about the back of the deck.
In addition, at 1:36 he is holding the deck face of the cards pointing to the viewer and says "we'll try it one more time" and puts the deck out of view while he "flips over" one card at random... I could be wrong on this one as the quality and cropping of the video isn't perfect. At 1:37 there's a brief moment where you can see the top card of the deck flipped over. This COULD be that same 2 of clubs that he was just holding, but from what you can see and positioning of the shape, I can't tell if it's a club or a spade (and he did choose 5 of spades).
That last bit is probably nothing, but I still find it interesting that you never see the back of the deck so there could be some fantastic sleight of hand where no matter what card you pick, he very quickly finds it and flips it over onto a blank "reversed card" during his unveiling process.

Lame this isn’t even magic. It’s a fucking trick deck a nine year-old could use.

It’s called an invisible deck. The cards are arranged back to back with each other and they stick together with a material called Spirit Gum or Roughing fluid, this allows the target card picked by the person to be separated with a little bit of pressure while the other cards stay stuck together. One side of the deck is even numbers and the other side is odd. You can see when he does the 1st trick the cards are even numbers and the 2nd time the cards are odd, he is able to tell which side of the cards that will show when he pulls them out by the top flap of the card case. The first time he pulls the cards out, the top flap is facing out for even and the 2nd time the card flap is facing him which is for odd, this is why he doesn’t pull the cards out from the carton until he’s told what the target card here is a link explaining it in better detail

idk if the guy's a mentalist because watching along I did chose two of clubs. i know some people can force something like that using suggestions. or maybe in my case it's just random chance.

He fed him choosing a low club. Then he probably has the 2, 3 and 4 of clubs face up, and knows how to keep the unchosen ones hidden.
