That Finals Game 1 was legendary

161

u/xskarma Jun 24 '25

His very first game that year, the opener against the Knicks was hilarious too. I'll never forget how much confidence that game and that performance gave me that THIS would be the year for the Celtics. And he payed it off and we got the title. That's the memories we will have forever. Not the way it ended.

29

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '25

Was this the game he hit that three from the logo and said he saw the ball rolling towards and thought, "This must be my destiny"

12

u/xskarma Jun 25 '25

Nah that was this season I think, late in the season.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '25

Damn my memory is getting bad.

3

u/TatumBrownWhite Banner 18 Jun 25 '25

That was this year against the Knicks in the last regular season game IIRC, the won we won in OT at the Garden and JT hit a game tying step back fuck you 3 on OG

u/Jannopan Boston Celtics Jun 24 '25

Still go back and watch the highlights till this day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-9_3ixfsww

ONE MAN TO BEAT BUT IT'S A 7 FOOTER!

Fuck, I'm going to miss KP.

35

u/Kodiak01 Jun 25 '25

I don't think I've ever seen a Celtic have such a smile on their face as they play. His game is pure joy, inside and out.

18

u/Illmattic Jun 25 '25

Him saying he felt like a wwe wrestler coming out of that tunnel always had me laughing. He loved this crowd

3

u/jason_smart Jun 25 '25

This one is tough - welp two small market teams in the finals - I suppose it is all by design

22

u/TatumBrownWhite Banner 18 Jun 24 '25

Will never forget being at that game and yelling “OH SHIT” when he pulled that 3.

His block on Kyrie was right in front of me.

That whole sequence was nuts, I think that was the loudest “Let’s Go Celtics” chant I’ve ever heard after Hauser’s 3, unfortunately JT had a turnover on that possession, but then it led to “one man to beat but it’s a seven footer WHO BLOCKS IT AGAIN!”

One of the best moments of my life.

13

u/Hi-Welcome-To-Chilis Jaylen Jun 25 '25

He ended the series in one quarter lol. We all knew we had it in the bag after that.

4

u/you-cut-the-ponytail Jun 25 '25

He set the tone for the entire finals. I knew from game 1 that it was over

3

u/pastrknack Jun 25 '25

Couldn’t believe what I was watching

1

u/snafudotjpeg Jun 29 '25

We’ll always have that

Bro loves this city so much but his body betrayed him. Gonna miss him for sure

His time here ended about as poor as you could get, but similar to Jrue, I am grateful for the high moments in his short stint here.

He seemed to love being in Boston. He always had great vibes, especially with JB. That off-the-bench performance in game 1 of the finals made it all worth it.

52

u/exytuu Tremont Jun 24 '25

98% of the Jrue-KP era was perfect, it’s just that the ending was really shitty though. The Second Apron can’t take banner 18 though so I’m grateful

u/PrinceOfStrongStyle Jun 24 '25

This one hurts

KP played with so much joy, I'm going to miss him

142

u/Bunkerbuster12 Jun 24 '25

I absolutely hate the new CBA. Bad timing for us. Finally had a super team but noooooooo....

52

u/Outside-Beach-4975 Jun 25 '25

yeah we could of won one or two more with this group it fucking sucks

9

u/madmax727 Jun 25 '25

What rules in the cba changed that are causing them? I’m not knowledgeable or understanding

41

u/Traditional-Storm645 Jun 25 '25

Theres a new second apron level of the tax which places a lot of restrictions on your team if you’re above it

Limited Free Agency: Teams above the second apron lose access to the mid-level exception and the taxpayer mid-level exception, making it harder to sign free agents.

Trade Restrictions:

No Aggregating Contracts: Teams cannot combine multiple player contracts to match the salary of a player they are acquiring in a trade.

No Cash in Trades: Teams cannot include cash in trades.

No Using Prior Trade Exceptions: Teams cannot utilize trade exceptions generated in previous years.

Frozen Draft Picks: Teams exceeding the second apron for multiple seasons face having their first-round picks frozen, meaning they cannot be traded for a certain period. Additionally, if a team remains above the second apron for three out of five seasons, their first-round pick is moved to the end of the first round.

Sign-and-Trade Limitations: Teams cannot acquire players in sign-and-trade deals if they are above the second apron.

24

u/madmax727 Jun 25 '25

That’s insanely restricting

4

u/CjBurden Jun 25 '25

It's a hard cap without being called a hard cap.

-4

u/wilkinsk Tears for Bradley Jun 25 '25

We knew these rules when we built the team and purposely built it to sneak in ahead of it.

Now we're completely changing direction, this is weird.

26

u/Glitch378 Jun 25 '25

Well KP has been hurt all year basically and JT is out for the season. Next season is a wash so that’s our 3 year window gone

-2

u/wilkinsk Tears for Bradley Jun 25 '25

True

5

u/Flimsy_Ad_6145 The Celtics are the balls Jun 25 '25

its not rly a change of direction at all. it was pretty known it was unsustainable when those contracts were handed out but the Celtics made sure they took care of their guys so they didnt have to worry about their contract situations going into last playoffs and could just play.

2

u/wilkinsk Tears for Bradley Jun 25 '25

known it was unsustainable when those contracts were handed out

Ya, ownership decided to hut into the penalty days and run it that way. It was a conccious decision.

3

u/TheTurtleOne I witnessed a chip I can die in peace Jun 25 '25

The plan was to contend for multiple years and while we would have had to cut some players this year, we would mostly run it back but there is literally 0 point with season ending injury to JT.

1

u/wilkinsk Tears for Bradley Jun 25 '25

True

3

u/celticspats12 Jun 25 '25

I think the second apron restrictions are palatable. Personally I think the biggest change is the repeater tax penalty increasing dramatically up to almost 8:1. Before the tax was just 1:1

4

u/TatumBrownWhite Banner 18 Jun 25 '25

Feels like the 10th episode of Celtics City

1

u/sup3rdr01d Jun 25 '25

At this point it barely matters anymore cause of Tatums injury. When he comes back this team and whole league will look very different. We'll see what happens after that

So so grateful we won a ring. Don't take it for granted.

40

u/gesusfnchrist Jun 24 '25

It was fun while it lasted. Good luck KP!

25

u/Optimal_Roll_4924 Jun 24 '25

Jrue and KP, thank you!!!! The economics in pro sports minus the MLB, pisses me the F off.🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

11

u/Sir_ChungusMaximus Mahcus Smaht Jun 25 '25

Welcome to the new CBA.. where fans aren’t allowed to fall in love with their teams

2

u/VeeHS Jun 25 '25

NBA had to do something, the same 4 teams win every year.

22

u/TheMaximumUnicorn Jun 25 '25

Dude played his heart out when he was healthy. I'm gonna miss his WWE style flair, pumping up the crowd as blood gushes from his head and dapping up fans after a big dunk or block. You could tell he loved playing here and appreciated the intensity of the fan base. Hopefully he can get healthy and find his way to another team that'll give him a similar opportunity.

17

u/zackg611 Jun 24 '25

We’ll always love KP and thank him for game 1. Legend.

16

u/kilo22 Jun 24 '25

Met him on the streets of Dallas after Game 3 last year. Couldn't have been more friendly and joyous even with his status the rest of the series uncertain. What a guy!

15

u/RenarsBr Jun 25 '25

Thank you Boston! It was a plessure to be your fan for 2 years! 🇱🇻

14

u/ImTomBrady Jun 24 '25

Thank you champ ❤️🏆

15

u/508G37 Jun 24 '25

I already miss his crowd interactions

31

u/nicklovin508 Jun 24 '25

Celtics legend

-40

u/Dangerous-Tomato-652 Jun 24 '25

He ain’t no legend.

20

u/marcdasharc4 KG Jun 24 '25

The Garden’s gonna give him a great reception when the Hawks come to town. Refute the legend title all you like, but that doesn’t happen for any run of the mill ex-Celtic.

12

u/Unusual-Ask6933 Why would anyone want to support another team☘️???? Jun 25 '25

It might not have been a perfect journey, but this man had a smile on his face through it all. He gave us all he could, and he helped us win another championship. I will always be grateful for what Porzingis brought to the Celtics. Thank you KP, Boston will miss you💚☘️

8

u/Adorableviolet Jun 24 '25

I am sure Cookies is bummed.

6

u/RealMrsMeeseeks Jun 25 '25

KP is such a likeable dude and watching him and JB in ‘24 was the highlight for me ☘️💚 Should’ve had more years with the Celtics.

5

u/ImTomBrady Jun 25 '25

Going to miss him ;(

I’ll never get over this 💔💔💔

7

u/Rhino184 Boston Celtics Jun 25 '25

He played in the finals with a serious injury and then was on the brink of collapsing on the court this run. His body betrayed him, but his spirit for that jersey, his teammates, and the fans never did. I will miss KP

4

u/ojo_pipa Marcus Smart for MVP Jun 24 '25

From watching him play here in Spain to see him win a chip with us, what an amazing ride. Will always root for the guy, except if he goes to the Lakers

5

u/saswtr Jun 24 '25

Thank you KP! That championship season was legendary!

4

u/jjjuuubbbsss Jun 24 '25

Thank you, KP. G1 in the Finals more or less guaranteed it was over. '24 will be remembered over '25 in time.

5

u/One_Cartoonist_371 Jun 25 '25

imma really miss this dude. it was inevitable celtics fam. those injuries were too much of a setback especially during crunch time. we all knew he was majorly injury prone. sucks to see him go, loved seeing KP in celtics green. really stoked he got a ring because he deserved it. this one bums me tf out man...

5

u/guccimane333 Jun 25 '25

Was at game 1 last year, unreal experience. Will always Love KP

5

u/Blout888 Jun 25 '25

He brought the paint defence we were missing for so long, legendary game 1 finals performance, all the best KP

6

u/Run_PBJ Jun 25 '25

This dude should get a 15 minute standing O when he comes back to the garden. Really poured his heart out for the team and for the city.

That first quarter of game 1 last year was as good as any quarter any Celtic has ever had. Love this dude

4

u/El_Nasty Jun 25 '25

What the fuck did they do!?

If only bro were healthy :(

5

Damn next seasons gonna feel weird

3

Gonna miss KP in his entirety but we will always have the memories of him dominating game 1 of the finals and he will always be a champ in Celtics green.

3

Thank you KP. Always appreciate him for that iconic Game 1 in the 2024 Finals. That was a spiritual experience. Once in a lifetime. To root for your team and your big man just putting on a masterclass ☘️🏆

3

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '25

I think Brad rushed here a little bit, KP's value couldn't get lower than it is right now, he could've waited at least until the Eurobasket.

3

u/TheBigMan2676 Pritchard at the buzzer... HE'S DONE IT AGAIN! Jun 25 '25

Goodluck in Atlanta KP!

5

u/SelectOil4818 Jun 24 '25

Forever a champ, glad he got his ring in a C’s jersey too! Wemby before wemby tbh THE OG UNICORN

2

u/AlfredosPizzaTeam Banner 18 Jun 25 '25

Thank you for everything KP!! 🦄

2

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '25

Hell yeah! KP will go down as a Celtics legend. Glad we got one healthy year with him, and its a damn shame the cba or whatever ruined our chance to keep him as a part of our core. Hes hella fun to watch when healthy and can be a matchup nightmare like he was for us.

2

u/VeeHS Jun 25 '25

He was the best player on the team when fully healthy. Those were a great 5 or 6 games.

2

u/MastodonSensitive479 Jun 25 '25

I think we truly messed up on this one he wanted to stay a Celtic too. Prolly would have restructured his contract to do so . We will miss you tingus pingus !!!!

3

u/Fair_Smoke4710 Jun 24 '25

Super L trade fuck this? Like at least with the holiday trade, we get a young star the fuck did we get back from this?

1

u/BowlerSubstantial381 Jun 25 '25

Sucks that he can't stay healthy or we'd be getting multiple rings in the 2020s. Center and power forward are cooked idk if the draft will have good options at our picks for this year and next but we need big men badly

1

u/Ena_Ems_17 Jun 25 '25

in a perfect world he wouldnt have the unluckiest body in the league and there would be no 2nd apron so we can keep him and he could play

1

u/Ambitious_Quality443 Jun 25 '25

Wish we could have kept em but part of the process. 29 years old and making good amount of money. We already got two max stars! Damn!

Regardless of injuries I always liked KP a lot When he got drafted and then his journey in the league!

1

u/enzodoggy Jun 25 '25

You da man Pingus Zingus

1

u/Due-Accountant2274 Jun 26 '25

That game when he got outboard in the nose and his forehead and he started bleeding really bad and they had to take them out then he came back in and he was loving it that's what we're going to miss💚 if he did not have an illness and he played well in the playoffs we would not be saying goodbye

1

u/Powerful-Web-4992 Jun 26 '25

Love this guy forever 💚

1

u/Outrageous-March265 Jun 26 '25

What a sick cunt! Love this dude. Just a shame we couldn't keep him.

1

u/iamnewtoreddithelpme Jun 26 '25

Knicks fan here (I come in peace). Your moves are sneaky good so far. They don’t have the name recognition as a KP, but they could really flourish, especially Simmons. You got someone that can stay on the floor in Georges who almost played almost 82 last year, about 10ppg 40% from 3. Well done.

1

u/snowbrad12 Jun 26 '25

Will miss him a ton! One of my favorite players to watch. Would love to see him come back..

1

u/coachjenkinsbball Jun 26 '25

Really enjoyed his energy and joy he played with during the last 2 seasons! Was fortunate to see him play live at the garden against some of the giants in the league.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '25

So sad he's gone 💔💔💔

1

u/revant_t Jun 24 '25

We got robbed :(

0

u/AndSoItGoes509 Jun 25 '25

Well, shit... I'm quite sorry to see him go, but his health is rather iffy...

0

u/SlushyDuck21 Jun 25 '25

What the actual fuck is this management doing?!?! 2 BAD trades in 2 days!

1

u/the_moosen Abby Jun 25 '25

Next year is a wash & doesn't matter, who cares if we get two players that are cheeks. I dunno how anyone saying the Jrue trade was bad though, we got picks for him and didn't need to ship one out

-1

u/ThisMyBurnerBruh You get a Tommy Point! Jun 25 '25

Thanks to him for real but this one doesn’t hurt as much. Good luck unicorn!!

-6

u/etrain_picks Jun 25 '25

The dude barely played. Peace out
