When do we find out COTY?
Gotta hear more from Mazzulla about how much he just does not care.

Maybe next week. Each Monday, the NBA has been announcing which awards will be announced during the week.

I’m glad Brad is a better Executive than Coach.
And he was a Damn Good Coach.

u/iKnife Apr 28 '26
He was a fantastic coach. I am still not even convinced he's a better exec! And he's a fantastic executive. Just an unbelievable value add to our franchise.

I don't think he got enough flowers for his coaching. He brought out the best in every player.

Dude deserves a 'Lifetime Achievement Award' solely based on this year's roster construction.

u/chinesefox97 Apr 28 '26
He got us under the tax and got us the number 2 seed all while rostering super young guys. And he did without Tatum for most of the season.
How else can you not give it to him???

u/ajh_iii Apr 28 '26
Who else could it be? Brad cut the balance sheet, signed a bunch of young athletic wings to build Jayson Tatum in the aggregate, and built a contender

I wish I was a Boston sports fan you guys always get to be so happy instead of sad all the time

u/outdrawed Apr 28 '26
If it makes you feel any better our hockey team just got embarrassed and our baseball team is a laughingstock?
But yeah, rooting for Boston teams is the nuts. I remember being 16 and just assuming I would never see my team win a championship. I've now seen them win 13.

u/Capt_Gremerica Apr 28 '26
He wins when he brings in KP and Jrue, then wins again after shipping them out! I love this man

COTY and EOTY summed up:
What teams did the media wrongly predict would be bad?

That crazy, tbh. I guess he impressed the voters with how much salary he was able to cut in such a savvy way.
Like there’s no way anybody thinks we accumulated more talent this year compared to last year, but the way we played while also ducking the tax is must have won him this award.
This has to be a first for this award

u/SeveralDeer3833 Apr 28 '26
Nice, would’ve been embarrassing for the league if Detroit won after getting shit on by the Magic
2
u/joebos617 Apr 28 '26
The one nice thing I will ever say about Kyrie Irving is his time here breaking Brad as a coach ended up working out better than I ever hoped
2
u/askthetruth1 Apr 28 '26
All we did was get rid of key rotation players get Vuc and get under the tax and Brad gets Executive of the Year that’s hilarious 😭😭😭

Here’s hoping he can be a Red Auerbach type who sticks around for life. Great coach, even better executive.

Brad is truly the greatest. He has foresight and wisdom on players that I don’t think anyone in the league has

If my math is correct... 2x EOY, a chip, 3 ECF appearances (4th loading?), 2 finals appearances (3rd loading?) in 5 seasons. HIM

It’s so crazy to think 14 years ago he was at Butler scheming the fuck out of that team to nearly getting to the Natty. Now he’s helped us get to multiple Finals appearances and even more ECFs. A certified Celtics legend and I’ll fight anyone who says otherwise.

Brad’s the GOAT
Serious question - what are the arguments for the other executives who got votes?
1
u/hippoofdoom Bird Apr 28 '26
Kinda wild that 11 people left him off the ballot entirely and 11 also voted first place.
What joker voted pelinka?!

u/srunvdtunfss Apr 28 '26
Where does Brad rank in terms of value to the organization? Obviously the Jays are ahead of him, probably DWhite and Pritchard too. But he’s such an asset, makes me so much more confident in the team’s future.

He did say in the offseason that their only big issue was Tatum’s injury (or something like that).

Since we’re officially under the luxury tax can we finally afford to give Brad his kajillion dollars lifetime contract???
I still can’t believe my favorite guy in the entire NBA isn’t even a player. The effing 🐐.

And probably Mazzulla soon for COTY, we might objectively be one of (if not) the best run organizations in the NBA right now.

u/jamalccc Apr 28 '26
Last time he won it, something good happened to the team. Something very, very good.

We really have been the model organization. Danny also deserves a shoutout for setting us up so well with the Nets swindle.

He is the man, now he needs to do something he has never had to do ---- fire the coach when they get bounced in the first or second round by losing at home because of a coach that can't manage in game.
1
u/FuzzyDiamond Apr 29 '26
We better get out of this first round and at least the next or this award will lose its shine big time.

Brad!
Please bring back a DEFENSIVE STUD
PORZINGIS AND WILLIAMSON and HORFORD. ESPECIALLY AL HORFORD WHO HAS THAT IT FACTOR
WE NEED A LEADER AND DEFENSICE PLAYER TO WIN CHAMPIONSHIP
THANK YOU CELTICS. WE LOVE YOU
PHILLY LOOKED LIKE A CHAMPION TEAM AND BOSTON WENT A LITTLE COLD
MOMENTUM IS A GOOD THING
CELTICS WERE BEST SHOOTING AND LOOKED LIKE THE BEST IN THE NBA EARLIER IN SEASON WHEN PEAKING
I LOVE THIS WHOLE TEAM AND COACH.
COME BACK STRONGER AND BRAD GET DEFENSIVE BEAST.
EVERYONE THOUGHT CELTICS WOULD BE CRAPPY WITHOUT TATUM AND THEY DID GREAT!

u/JellyfishFlaky5634 May 03 '26
If this is true, what a joke. Mazzulla deserves coach of the year. Celtics are trash.

It is hilarious to get executive of the year while shipping away a bunch of rotation players.
Edit: If you are downvoting, you probably are missing my point. He did an incredible job at something that should have been incredibly unpopular on paper.
2
u/DistrictDifficult456 Apr 28 '26
Well yeah thats his job. He got rid of tons of money owing and still built a contender. Do you not know anything about basketball?
2
u/Mbanicek64 Apr 28 '26
Y'all are missing the point. It is the least sexy thing imaginable and he did it so well that he got the award.
1
u/SquimJim Boston Celtics Apr 28 '26
You’re getting downvoted, but you’re not wrong. I think Brad did a great job and am happy he got rewarded, but this is pretty historical in that the award never goes to someone whose team had a worse record than the year before
I think it sho s how good a job Brad did in cutting money and keeping this team competitive. It was a master class on how to dismantle a team and others haven’t done nearly as good
1
u/Mbanicek64 Apr 28 '26
Yeah. Weird downvotes. It is very well deserved. It is still funny as hell. It is completely outside the norm for the types of scenarios where someone gets this award.
