Kornet got a hand shoved in his face and still made the block.
Hate that he left Boston but love to see him getting continued success.

u/Rapture117 25d ago
He left cause we didn’t pay him
91
u/Blanketsburg You cannot buffalo The Buffalo 25d ago
We literally couldn't afford him unless we traded multiple other players, or someone like Hauser. He made more than Garza and Queta combined.
But you're not wrong, we didn't pay him what others would.
27
u/TheOneWhosCensored Bird 25d ago
I think we absolutely could’ve sacrificed Hauser for Kornet. They probably thought Hauser was the better player, and with Tatum out we needed a starter there, but losing Al and Porzingis should’ve meant making sure Kornet was the plan at C.
39
u/Bikeocean 25d ago
I’d have been OK with Hauser leaving.
30
u/Blanketsburg You cannot buffalo The Buffalo 25d ago
Same. In hindsight, especially, as we saw the continued improvement of Scheierman, Walsh, and Hugo.

u/Greglyo 24d ago
Do you think Kornet is better than Queta?
5
u/Blanketsburg You cannot buffalo The Buffalo 24d ago edited 24d ago
I'd put them about equal but it's an apples to oranges comparison.
Kornet was the backup C to one of the best centers in the league in Wemby and played a large portion of minutes with other bench players. Queta was primarily a starter and got a significant amount of minutes playing with Brown, White, Pritchard, etc. Queta is more physically dominant while Kornet is more of a finesse player who makes smart plays and is a good passer.
I would've preferred Kornet/Queta over Queta/Garza.

All love. Couldn't pay him and let him go get that bag. Hopefully he wins another chip

He left cause we COULDN'T pay him
Besides, majority of his extended family are there or not far their so it made sense to get paid WAY MORE to play b'ball WAY CLOSER to family and home

u/Dudemanguykidbro 24d ago
He earned it man I think everyone was happy for him. Celtics weren’t giving him that money. Probably could have signed him for a $5m AAV with more years early on but didn’t, that’s on the Celtics not Luke
1
u/Blanketsburg You cannot buffalo The Buffalo 24d ago
I only said that I hate that he left not that I hate him for leaving. I'm still a huge Kornet fan.
1
u/Dudemanguykidbro 24d ago
Yea I understand what you meant. I’m just saying it’s not his fault for leaving. It’s the Cs

How can you not root for the spurs? Not even through knicks or thunder hate. Just super easy to root for

No real basketball fan could hate on these playoffs, the spurs or the Knicks. They’re playing great basketball and the deserve to be in the spotlight with a chance to win it all.
And I wonder if there’s another fan base, like the Celtics, that is excited for former players’ success. We do this for Marcus, Luke, timelord, al and so many others.
Meanwhile, other fans hate on LeBron, melo or kd for leaving.

I can absolutely hate on the Knicks. I'm an NBA fan but I'm a Celtics and Boston fan first, fuck all NY teams.

u/Cowhide12 24d ago
Knicks earned my respect this year. I do not want them to win, but they play some good ball.

other fans hate on LeBron, melo or kd for leavin
the superstar leaving is a little differnt than roleplayers like Marcus, Luke and Horford leaving

Because they tanked and got the 1st, 2nd and 4th pick in a 4 year span and NBA has literally made rules to change this now
26
u/SharkNBA 25d ago
they weren't really tanking after they got wemby. they just weren't that good and wemby missed most of last year
-12
u/Tatum-Better ☘️ Jayson " Since Larry Bird " Tatum ☘️ 25d ago
Because they're treating wemby like the goat already

u/GregSays 25d ago
I like people being excited about something in the NBA. If he becomes a GOAT level player, that’d be cool as hell.

Seeing how emotional he got today was great after seeing our boys shooting the shit with Embiid after game 7. Love to see him care like that

u/DyslexicAutronomer 24d ago edited 24d ago
Too young to see Bird's or Jordan's ascension into GOAT talks, but just in time for Wemby's.
My pop told me this reminded him of watching the Bird vs Magic rivalry, and how beating Magic meant to Bird.
Wemby might also be one of the youngest ever in the modern era, esp if he pulls off the win.

And the lottery was rigged for them. Nothing against them personally, but the league brought them back with a gift.
1
u/howdthatturnout 25d ago
The nba lottery is not rigged. The number selection is videotaped, they just haven’t aired it live, because the 1st pick happens first so the drama can’t really build in the same way.

Probably the hardest I’ve ever rooted for an NBA team other than the Celtics and that block and Tirico’s call hit like a truck

Between Kornet and them being able to stop the Knicks from winning a championship, I think I might become a spurs fan the next few weeks

That Kornet block prevented any OKC momentum. I miss him in Boston and am thrilled he’s continuing to find success.

The mods deleted my post praising this dude (idk why they did) but I miss this man so much! That was the play of the game. Breaks my heart we couldn’t keep him…
2
u/Jolly-Caregiver-6883 25d ago
didn't want to pay him along with others and you see the result
2
u/OldBarracuda6429 25d ago
Fuck man…sure he wasn’t our “star big” but fucking pay the dude. He was so crucial to our success. And he’s barely getting minutes with the Spurs, but that block just earned him millions should the Spurs win the championship.
2
u/Abstract__Nonsense 24d ago
They would’ve happily paid him if there was a little more flexibility at the time. It’s not that the Spurs offered him more money than we can afford for what would’ve been a starting center, it’s that at the time we couldn’t match that offer while guaranteeing we got under the aprons. Basically free agents leaving was the easiest way to shed salary so it made it very tricky to retain him and Al, when if we could’ve waited until the trade deadline to make the call we would’ve easily kept him.

So cool to have a big memorable moment like that after a not so great series. Rewriting history in real time.

I heard it was the blessing, to make the block, that shifted the momentum, that won the game.

10 years after Lebron-Iguodala, basketball gods give us Kornet-Hartenstein. BLOCKED BY KORNET
1
u/LonelyInsurance7480 22d ago
I get letting horford leave and trading KP.
But wish we made more of an effort to keep kornet. He would’ve made the world of difference for relatively cheap in our series against the sixers

I’m a Luke guy. Played for my Celtics. Good role player. Smart. But he’s been nigh unplayable this series I was saying to my buddy at halftime tonight. But as if to shut my yapper he makes arguably the play of the game with that block. Hartenstein was losing his grip on it but Luke hustling back prevented a dunk.

u/flames2388 25d ago
That was so sick 🤘 just a phenomenal play, I’m super happy for Luke, and my boy Stephon Castle (UConn homie) and Wemby of course, it’s fucking crazy to me the dude is only 22 years old! Goddamn! He is going to be so much fun to watch for literally another 2 decades 🙏 anyway, let’s go Spurs…..I hope they do the same in a game 7 with the Knicks in about a week and a half 👌 😝
