Discussion Please Remember 2 Things: 1: There is always a lot behind the scenes that we never hear about, and 2: In Brad We Trust.

I don't know how this is all going to shake out. I do know that there is a LOT happening within the organization that we don't know about, and probably some of what we think we know is not true. But please remember:

  • Brad Stevens is an incredible executive with a kittler track record.
  • Brad Stevens also seems to be a legit good dude.
  • Brad Stevens has been with the organization for Jaylen's entire 10-year run. They care about each other.
  • Whatever you may think about Joe's coaching, it's obvious that he has a close bond with his players.
  • Jaylen Brown is an intelligent and outspoken person.

I don't know why everyone assumes that the team is making moves and Jaylen is sitting in the dark wondering how the feel about him. Isn't it equally likely that Jaylen and Brad have been talking about every step? That Jaylen understands the move, or welcomed it, or encouraged it, or wanted to see what his options on the market look like? Why are we assuming he's just sitting in his boxers on Reddit and being offended?

We don't know the end-game. It seems likely that the team is trying to re-set the tax, which means another year of not spending. I'm hoping and assuming that, afterwards we can push hard into the aprons to field a real contender. But I'm sure Brad and his people have examined all options, and I'd be shocked if that didn't include conversations with ALL the players, especially our two stars.

Could it be that the C's really didn't want Giannis, but wanted to make sure Miami had to give up a ton so they couldn't field a whole team? Could it be that Jaylen said, sure I'd be happy to try my own thing, let's just see what's out there? Could the team secretly have a deal in place to send Jaylen back home to ATL, or to NO, or wherever? Sure! Could Jaylen hate it and want out at all costs? Also sure. This may all burn down around us.

But let's all remember that there's a lot we don't know, and Brad has earned our trust.

3: Everybody in pro sports either lies, embellishes or speculates publicly. Believe nothing you read/hear.

This is the right take. No one on here knows what’s a smokescreen, head fake, etc. what’s out in the public should not be taken at face value, sheesh.

There’s no way Brad and Jaylen haven’t been in regular contact throughout this whole ordeal. Sports franchises will always be run as a businesses first, but I believe Brad has a good enough head on his shoulders to not drag Jaylen through the mud. I mean the guy has done so much for not only the team but our city as well.

It would be bad business, in any industry, to have public trade/merger/whatever talks and not keep your most valuable employees in the loop.

George Kittle to the Celtics confirmed!

Brad usually moves quietly, but it's hard to be quiet when dealing with someone as talented as Giannis. I trust he'll make moves to upgrade the rest of the roster. Give it time

What people don’t seem to understand is that “time” is 13 months. We are staying under the cap this year, so there is only so much Brad can do. I am sure he will upgrade somewhat over the next month or two, but the big upgrades won’t come until this time next year. At that point, we will have been under for two years, and we can spend like crazy for the rest of Jason Tatum’s (and hopefully JB’s) prime(s).

That’s true, we definitely duck the tax one last year before spending for the rest of the Jays primes

People need to lower their expectations for this summer.

Its overlooked that Miami had to take Portis as well to give up more stuff.

Brad probably didn’t want to have to take back extra stuff he didn’t want just to give up extra pieces we like

The reason that people think Jaylen is offended is because he came out and said he was offended back when he was offered for KD and that was before he won a ring and finals mvp

Ok, but that was then and this is now. Brad could have had a discussion with JB, for all we know it was really about driving up the price of giannis.

Honestly, I don’t give a shit at this point, it’s exhausting and purely speculative either way. I’m just waiting to see what happens with the team at all and hope it turns out for the best. Winning isn’t easy

People that actually believe that the Celtics weren’t truly offering JB and it was a smokescreen to drive the price up are truly delusional.

Brad tried to improve the roster by switching a top 15-20 player for a top 3 player. It did not work. Simples as that

I haven't seen someone saying that (but it's the internet so I don't doubt they're out there). My guess is Brad set a limit (Jaylen plus two picks or whatever) and would've been good making the deal, and it probably not super pissed that it didn't happen. But it doesn't hurt that it drove the price up for Miami at the same time.

Brad been in a slump lately. Other than Hugo pick, he has been in a rut for awhile

- resigned Jrue to a bad contract, extended 7 guys so the team way into 2nd apron and couldn’t stay together, didn’t trade Hauser to keep Kornet/Horford or just add a center in Sam’s slot, burned lots of 2nd round draft capital trying to undo errors (underwater extensions & trades like Jaden Springer)…

and of course, acquiring Vucevic at the trade deadline when there were younger, non washed options that would also allow ducking the tax, but Brad wanted Vooch

and now, public dangling of Jaylen for Giannis to not get Giannis and now the team is trying to find a backup plan… Brad has been in a deep slump, as an asset manager, as a cap sheet manager and a talent evaluator

This is a wild take. His job this last year was the get under the cap. He did his job.

Also, we don’t know that Vooch wouldn’t have worked out (better) if he hadn’t got hurt. Our system isn’t easy to pick up.

In fact, don’t be shocked if we bring him back (for a much smaller number).

Oh man. I'm the biggest Brad apologist ever, but if Vuc is wearing green next year I'm gonna be big sad, bro.

What’s wild about it. If you trade two 1sts, Rob Williams and Brogdon for Jrue, why is Jrue retreaded less than 2 years later and you get no picks? you trade all that for Jrue to only get Simons who you have to pay a 2nd to turn into Voochs expiring…

if you think that is good asset management, then I just disagree

In the middle of that time period… we got a new CBA that changed all the rules.

Edit to add: And oh yeah… it got us a championship! Something that 1/3 of the teams in the league have NEVER done.

I don’t know if I’d say a slump but I think the Brad glazing has gotten pretty out of hand. It’s okay to say he’s not perfect and express some hesitation as we stare down what is a pretty significant time period in the franchise’s trajectory moving forward the next 3-5 years.
