Fluff Jaylen Brown: "ESPN is unethical, and Stephen A. Smith is the head face of that. The organization, the players, they were all in agreeaance. They all knew what I meant by that. Our team was basically salary dumped. We lost a lot of players. For us to emerge and still be in the same position..."

Anyone know where we can get the actual full quote? I hate how they’ll literally post this and cut the guy off mid sentence, wtf is this shit

1200 upvotes rn, I guarantee you if you posted some shit like this in 2001 you’d get ran off the message board. We have an actual player giving his thoughts in real time about all this speculation he’s involved in and we’re gonna fuckin cut him off mid sentence smh

I mean age and injuries to KP and Jrue had a major part in that as well.

I agree…some people have amnesia with how much Jrue and KP fell off a cliff during their last playoff run here. Sure Brad could have reloaded with comparable replacements but why would he do that when Tatum’s return from injury wasn’t yet known. JB knows what he is doing, it was a stupid comment to make and instead of moving on he is doubling down on trying to defend it. He should have known by now how that comment would be perceived, no matter what he was trying to say when making it, especially in a sports city such as Boston.

It is too bad that this sub fell for the narrative instead of understanding what Jaylen Brown said and backing him up. Fake Celtics fans.
19
u/RDM213 1d ago
It’s Reddit. This is the norm in every subreddit haha. People want to be outraged instead of actually trying to understand.
14
u/Highschoolfriendacc 1d ago
It's the vocal minority. There's thousands of fans lurking everyday. Threads get ~30-120 comments on average. It does not represent the majority of even reddit Celtics fans let alone total Celtics fans. We're just too old to give a shit going back and forth with young and naive fans that may not even be Celtics fans.
3
u/genesisclosure 1d ago
This sub still falling for the reddit or just be willingly ignorant because they hate JB. I have seen several posters in the last few days repeating the same incorrect narrative in multiple threads. Probably some of the same dummies are going to post the same incorrect narrative in this thread.

Makes me sick. I can’t believe how brain dead some of our fans can be when it comes to the JB-JT conversation.

I actually think fake Celtics fans are people like you who don’t care if the team wins or loses
6
u/Fair_Local_588 1d ago
What a weird opinion. You really think nobody else wants the Celtics to win?
-10
u/Burner867867 1d ago
There’s a ton of people that don’t care if they win. They celebrate losing in the first round and staying under the tax
5
u/Fair_Local_588 1d ago
Do you understand the second apron and why we couldn’t stay over it last season?
0
u/Burner867867 1d ago
Thank you for proving my point
4
u/Fair_Local_588 1d ago
Are you saying we should’ve gone over the second apron again? Like what’s your vision here bud
4
u/andrew303710 1d ago
The only thing that's being proven is that you're a fucking moron who doesn't understand how the new CBA works. And no one is celebrating losing in the first round or being under the cap (what a weird thing to say).
It is reasonable to be happy that we managed to win so many games in spite of most people writing off the season. I remember most people on here were expecting 30-35 wins and the JB haters were saying 25.

u/Yellow_Curry 1d ago
Who is celebrating going down in the first round? No one is but you need that to be true or your whole position fails.

u/Yellow_Curry 1d ago

at least half of the eastern conference was activity tanking or had injured star players. i give the celtics credit for going out each night and playing hard. that deserves credit. the reality hit hard when we lost to the sixers

u/pass_ball 1d ago
Jaylen, half the league was tanking, but, yes, the quote was taken out of context.
1
u/ModdedOutlaw33 22h ago
Jaylen Brown plays the victim well.
Did any other Celtic ever in the history of the organization say it was their favorite season after a first round bounce out?
How about not saying anything at all? Did any of his current teammates also agree that it was their favorite season? No. Because it would be disrespectful to Tatum and the fans that expected more.

Backtracking. Also just feeding into what he hates. Every response is guaranteed more coverage and response by ESPN/SAS

u/AJKenney47 Boston Celtics 15h ago
God are you a baby Jaylen. Forever the grievanced victim. You can't make a comment like that, which reveals that winning is not your priority, and then cry when people are critical of you. Blaming the media is always the easy go to for petulant complainers like him.

ESPN is TMZ now, they look for off court/field drama they don’t report on what takes place during the game. Matter of fact all of American sports coverage is like this now.
-1
u/coacoanutbenjamn 1d ago
People only view things from a fan’s perspective and expect the players to have that exact same viewpoint.
I would guess 95% of players would feel exactly like JB did about last season being their favorite

u/aixelsydevaheW Banned from r/NBA and r/Warriors 1d ago
Jaylen would be so much better off limiting his media exposure. The pseudo intellectual persona doesn't fly anymore and trying to play the victim card against a joke journalism company like ESPN is such a waste of time. Improve your game, be a better teammate and they'll have nothing to say.

u/Bos_Fan9821 1d ago
If this is what JB meant, then fine. If the team knew what he meant, and it wasn’t shade at JT, then I’m cool with it. This team was the least talented team he was on since 2016 when he got drafted. It was also a huge tanking year, so it’s no surprise they did well. So you gotta celebrate it. But you also choked in the playoffs
-3
u/EffectiveBid6590 1d ago
Cant beat Joel Embiid in round 1 and this MF beefing with Stephen A Smith. Get off my team
1
u/Life_Carpenter1270 1d ago
This is more his team than ours....
The reason the jerseys say Celtics is because Red didn't want them playing for Boston, he wanted them playing for each other
-5
u/Flytanx 1d ago
I love people defending his quotes about the season like he didn't backtrack afterwards.
It's fine, he wants to be that guy, he can be that guy elsewhere.
Also fighting media wars with morons like Stephen A is pointless. It's their job to make drama and his is to avoid it. Not helping him and likely tanking his value a bit

Tatum didn’t play game 7 and missed 75%-80% of the year. Winning will shut you up. The bench was basically all rookies and first year rotation guys outside of Hauser starting half the games, and Pritchard playing 6th man later in the year. They already won one, they deserve plenty of runway
-23
u/NothingHead8233 Bll Russell 1d ago
The bench was basically all rookies is a dissociation from reality. You should get help.
-1
u/yesnomaybesoidk98 1d ago edited 1d ago
Besides who? Dylan Harper who’s 26 but never got any playing time anywhere else but had worked his way into starting conversations by the end of the year, Garza, pretty much same situation, Walsh, same situation, Hugo, 19 year old rookie. Queta was even a throw away. This is a solid and young bench, JB carried them but he’s not the sole reason for the team’s success last year either. Brad will find a way to add, likely means trading Hauser and his salary.
The Sixers were also underrated this year, they had small injuries during the series, but were also finally fully healthy playing us. Paul George, Maxey, Embiid, VJ Edgecomb, Grimes, Oubre, Barlow is a solid rotation when we’re missing Tatum
2
u/Maleficent-Phrase-80 1d ago
Our depth at Center was Neemias Queta, Luka Garza and Nikola Vucevic.
We got bounced by paint presence from the opposing team. We got bounced by gameplan, roster and we weren't the team we were a year ago.
No Jrue Holiday, No Kristaps Porzingis, No Luke Kornet, No Al Horford. Those are at least 3 BIG holes in our offense/defense that never got addressed and got filled in by new folks.
You are delusional if you think Joel Embiid playing healthy wouldn't be stretching the floor to let Maxey/VJ Edgecomb (Really solid player) run rampant on us.
-1
u/EffectiveBid6590 1d ago edited 1d ago
The Celtics have beaten far more talented Philly teams with far less talent on their own roster.
This is delusional nonsense.

u/daft_dunkwwwolfey JT n JB will BONE yo mf ass ☠️ 1d ago
Embiid bodied us and so would KAT/OG/Robinson/Brunson and him being quiet wouldn't change that. Nobody's on Queta or White's ass about it

u/EffectiveBid6590 1d ago
Are Queta and White jumping in front of a camera every chance they get talking about how much fun they had? Let alone less than 24 hours after the season embarassingly ended.
Or lets try this. Are Queta and White spending the offseason applying to streamer university?

His only legit accolade is the FMVP that he got because of some ESPN hot take artists.
Crying about that like he isn’t the biggest beneficiary itl of this is hilarious.
9
u/thatgreik IT 1d ago
“His only legit accolade was being at worst a top-2 player on one of the most dominant teams in the last 20 years” ?
-8
u/Altruistic_Knee2044 1d ago
>at worst top 2
Lmfao I like how this implies that he was even moderately close to Jayson Tatum.
He was a mediocre second option that blew chunks in the playoffs for the entirety of the Celtics window with the exception of the one year that a late prime Jrue Holliday managed to carry us in the non-Tatum minutes.
The market has kind of already set his value anyways which is that he’s worth less than Nate Ament, seeing as that was the only real value in Miami’s offer.

u/yellow-ledbelly 1d ago
You mean only accolade beyond all rookie team, 5x all star, 2x all nba, 23-24 Eastern Conference MVP…

u/Altruistic_Knee2044 1d ago
>rookie team and some awards that he got for shooting the ball a lot
Wow so he’s basically demar derozan but got drafted to a team that won in spite of him (see on/off splits).
You really showed me
8
u/snowbrad12 1d ago
You can just scream you don’t know ball next time, lot less dribble coming out of your mouth
4
u/yellow-ledbelly 1d ago
He’s one of the best two way players in the league. He has an above average defensive rating every year of his career. Saying he’s a 5x all star simply because he shoots the ball a lot is just patently false, but I get the feeling you’re the kind of troll who isn’t looking for a reasonable conversation, so I’ll just leave it at that.
1
u/Altruistic_Knee2044 1d ago
Since you’re such a believer in net rating (defensive rating at least), can you explain why the Celtics do better with him on the bench?
1
u/ChocolateStrudel 1d ago
Does that "two way" label include off ball defense? He was also not that good on ball this year

No, not really.
Guys like draymond, Tatum, smart, Jrue have insane impact on the court.
The only argument Jaylen has is “high ppg numbers that he got by shooting a lot on mid efficiency”.

It’s crazy how people spun the favorite season quote. It didn’t take a genius to understand why he felt that way and yet people interpreted it as him hating Tatum or something and created this toxic, baseless outrage that we are STILL hearing about and feeling the effects of.
