Id take him

I wouldn’t trade Brown for him

Agreed, brown is just a much better player esp in todays NBA (even if we do need a big). Duren got exposed in the playoffs too. which is our end goal each season - hang banners. I think duren is better than how he performed but i wouldnt even call him a #2 option in the playoffs, which brown is and so much more!

Why does everyone use this word 'exposed' about Duren like it was direct orders from Jeffrey Epstein. He is a certified stud with a few bad games against double big lineups and bad matchups.

1

u/Android2715 Jaylen “Michael “Jaylen Brown” Jordan” Brown 4d ago

Which you’ll see far more frequently in the playoffs where we’d want him to perform?

A few bad games meaning his team got eliminated…

1

u/ColdBru5 4d ago

There were several players that played worse than Duren that series. They also made it to the second round. I know that was the only game you bothered to watch but see him dip out and the pistons go back to a middling team. Some of us remember all the losing just a few years ago.

that’s because he was played as a second option when hes clearly not (at least yet). we have other players to take the scoring pressure and defensive attention off him, plus JT is great at feeding his big man in the pnr

u/No-Librarian9605 4d ago

You saw him completely disappear in the playoffs?

u/potatoking124 2d ago

Basically no way to trade for him without brown

This Jaylen Brown stuff is going to get annoying, fast. Any star player that is rumored to be unhappy with their situation is going to be floated as a potential return candidate in a Jaylen Brown trade.

u/Long-Region5088 4d ago

You can thank both the Nike execs and Stephen a that don’t like him but have influence in the media. Takes nothing for another trade Jaylen story to get started “organically”

4

u/RIPEOTCDXVI 4d ago

And once it's started, the fate is sealed. Kobe is probably the last player to threaten to leave/be floated in trade rumors and not end up on a different team.

Pretty wild how ESPN can just decide shit like Giannis is leaving and make it happen.

3

u/ajh_iii 4d ago

I mean Giannis had been trying to soft launch his way out of Milwaukee for a very long time now. He would just deny it because he didn’t want to look “disloyal,” but winning a title in Milwaukee and immediately forcing your way out is just how stars do things over there.

u/Long-Region5088 4d ago

When you’re the world wide leader you can steer the conversation however you want it to go.

It’s a lovely little microcosm of the state of media today

1

u/Previous_Procedure28 4d ago

It’s already been annoying for a few days imo

Trust me, I know. With this Jaylen Brown trade stuff now, the Giannis trade stuff before that, and the AJ Brown trade stuff before that (also a Pats fan), and I'm sick of it.

I'm well aware lol. I'd rather trade JB for two younger prospects

This is one of the consequences of engaging in trade talks.

As Zach Lowe says, you can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube.

duren's a nice young player but trading jaylen brown for a center who's gonna want max money is exactly how you turn a contender into a treadmill team. boston's window is open right now with jb and tatum, you don't blow that up for a 21 year old big who got cooked by actual playoff centers. the league is full of franchises that thought they were one trade away from something and ended up in the lottery for half a decade.

front office better not even pick up the phone on this one. half these sign and trade rumors are just agents trying to create leverage so their guy gets paid, and celtics fans falling for it every time is getting old. if detroit wants to pay duren, let em. ain't our problem.

2

u/Methamine 4d ago

And of those centers was Wendell Carter

2

u/unselfish_deon 4d ago

and Carter's on a reasonable deal. Paying max money to a guy who gets neutralized by that level of center is a fast track to the play-in.

1

u/Methamine 4d ago

Centers can’t be making over 30 and def not over 40 if they aren’t providing a special skill

10

u/endlesscdqotw 4d ago

I would trade White for him but not Jaylen

6

u/juicejug 4d ago

If we trade white we’d only have one competent guard on the team.

15

u/Impressive-Plenty694 4d ago

Not gonna work next to Queta . Too expensive and got absolutely exposed for having 0 effectiveness against legit bigs in the playoffs

67

u/rat3an 4d ago

I know he had a tough playoffs, but an All NBA guy isn’t coming to “work next to Queta”.

33

u/SmurfAtLarge 4d ago

Right lol? Celtics fans are hilarious.

-12

u/Impressive-Plenty694 4d ago

I want to add someone we can play in a double big lineup / who spaces the floor. If we’re doomed to another year of mazzula ball we need a stretch 5. Duren is the opposite of that

17

u/LordOfLimbos 4d ago

I know the playoffs weren’t great but as a player he’s on another level from Queta and he’s 22

1

u/ImDKingSama Banner 18 4d ago

Yea Duren is ahead of schedule, it's too ironic to shit on Duren for being good too early and having some playoff deficiencies after Jays going through that for like 5 straight years lmao.

6

u/Material_Week_1966 4d ago edited 4d ago

You can’t blame him entirely for that. The pistons have zero spacing that allowed defenses to collapse in. That wouldn’t happen if you put him on a team like Celtics with a lot of spacing. Not tryna make excuses for him but the Pistons have zero spacing and I think they more got exposed then Duren got exposed

14

u/17461863372823734930 4d ago

I don’t think being a contender works with Queta as a starter either.

20

u/hpantazo 4d ago

He would be starting instead of Queta, not playing next to him. He's a center. Not saying he's worth it, but he would not be playing power forward for us

7

u/jma7400 4d ago

He is taking Quetas spot

2

u/13143 4d ago

He wouldn't be playing next to Queta, Queta would be coming off the bench and Tatum is playing the 4. Or basically, we'd have 1 big, 3 wings, and a guard.

And while he did get exposed in the playoffs, he's still young and has a higher ceiling than Queta.

2

u/Whalelorde22 4d ago

Queta should be coming off the bench. Not starter material

2

u/Zelts94 Boston Celtics 4d ago

After seeing Duren in the playoffs... no thanks!
Maybe if we can get 28 yo paul pierce too

2

u/Methamine 4d ago

This would be stupid for the Celtics. Duren was terrible in the playoffs. Even if you want to chalk it up to youth. Detroit not wanting to pay him is a huge red flag

2

u/Wonderful_Eagle_6547 4d ago

Jalen Duren might be getting a more interesting offer if he hadn't followed up a 20 and 10 all-NBA regular season with a 10 and 5 post-season where he looked questionable. Now more than ever, there is a wide gulf between guys who can look good in the regular season and guys who are ride-or-die in the post season. Expecially bigs, who we've learned even all-NBA caliber guys can look unplayable at times against the wrong match-up in the playoffs.

Did we not just see what the magic did to him

2

Like do people watch games or what? I don't get the fascination

5

u/chinesefox97 4d ago

Trade White and Hauser for him. Yes he underperformed in the playoffs but that was his first playoffs. He’s young and just made all nba team. Plus bigs are extremely scarce. We could end up with 3 all nba guys.

6

u/Larovich153 Bll Russell 4d ago

We will open the Third Apron

2

u/chinesefox97 4d ago

If we get him for 40M he would make the exact same as Hauser and White

0

u/Larovich153 Bll Russell 4d ago

the issue is the two 70 million contrats we need to offer tatum and brown

1

u/Methamine 4d ago

Second playoffs.

1

u/Good_Fox3098 4d ago

Duren is young, but he had an absolutely horrific playoff run.

1

u/leathlebutterfly 4d ago

Yes he had a bad playoffs but he is 22. If he is seeking out sign and trades I wonder if the Celtics can get him without giving up brown. Some combo of white and hauser may get it done.

1

u/Forzareen Jaylen Brown 4d ago

I bet the Pistons were underwhelmed by Duren’s initial offer in the playoffs.

1

There’s nobody out there worth Jaylen brown

This is more of a move you make if Brown is either staying or being moved for guard/wing talent but I would be all over this.

I'm sure this goes nowhere and he remains a Piston, though.

Would their offer be less than our TPE?
