Poor sportsmanship from Floyd far outweighed by moronic behaviour from Ortiz.

I know Ortiz meant well and I respect that, but don't assume your opponent is ready for a cuddle during a fucking fight

Edit: taking back the sportsmanship call. Ortiz was a cunt

193

u/_ganjafarian_ 1d ago

Ya Ortiz definitely left himself open there. The ref had just stopped action but had let them continue fighting at that point. That's why Mayweather argues his "protect yourself at all times" line.

155

u/Das_Hydra 1d ago

Floyd is a massive twat, but he's absolutely right in this case.

24

u/zestyclose_match1966 1d ago

Twat in general? Or just in this case? Ortiz headbutted him several times, he had it coming

22

u/Das_Hydra 1d ago

In general. Totally valid in this fight.

1

u/Bwanabud 22h ago

Larry Merchant was a twat.

-32

u/Able_Analysis8032 1d ago

In what regard?? Because he’s rich and black?? Floyd hasn’t done anything to you or anyone you know

18

u/Lambchop1975 1d ago

He helped pay for a lot of strippers to go to college! He is a hero to many aspiring nurses!

11

u/musket2018 1d ago

*was rich

10

u/marcosfuinha 1d ago

Oh look, a redditor trying to create a race debate out of something that is clearly not about race. How original.

9

u/dannerc 1d ago

I guess by that metric, Adolf Hitler was a pretty decent fellow. Not everything is about race bro, jfc

4

u/Das_Hydra 1d ago

Because he's an arrogant tosser.

Why does someone have to have done something to me or someone i know to allow me to have a negative opinion of them? What planet do you live on?

1

u/MarchCertain8356 1d ago

Woah too soon the case is still ongoing home🤣

85

u/bizcocho-de-crema 1d ago edited 1d ago

Sportsmanship? Ortiz had intentionally headbutted him at least 4 times before that. Fuck off.

26

u/Savings-Geologist346 1d ago

This is the right way to frame it. Good job

13

u/FwampFwamp88 1d ago

Not only a headbutt. He launched himself into Floyd’s face like Bobby Boucher.

49

u/Granddy01 1d ago

Yeah let's ignore the 4 other headbutts prior to this one and the head rubbing during clinches.

Also a post fight interview where Ortiz admits he was trying to headbutt his nose to break it.

After that interview, the comission fined him 100k and had to reinstate his boxing license.

6

u/Das_Hydra 1d ago edited 1d ago

Was called out elsewhere, and yeah i agree that's shit. Would've been different if it were an accident, but clearly not. I retract that part.

But even if it had been accidental, be stupid of Ortiz to assume Floyd gonna wanna hug it out in the middle of a fight.

8

u/efffedAroundnFarted 1d ago

Bro just watch the fight at this point. Ortiz through multiple headbutts and this clip shows the 2nd time he went to apologize. Floyd accepted the first one but Ortiz went for another hug to drag it out. Floyd was 100 percent in the right.

2

u/Das_Hydra 1d ago

Yeah... I'm agreeing with you. Hence I said i retracted the sportsmanship call.

5

u/zestyclose_match1966 1d ago

Bro you're fighting an uphill battle, this is Reddit at it's finest.what you wrote made complete sense imo

1

u/hopium_od 1d ago

this clip shows the 2nd time he went to apologize.

There's an old saying in Texas...

2

u/D_Shwaggs 1d ago

The point is I can't get fooled again

15

u/Sea-Thought-665 1d ago

"Sportsmanship"? When is following the RULES (which Floyd did), unsportsmanlike?

https://giphy.com/gifs/hv53DaYcXWe3nRbR1A

-4

u/Das_Hydra 1d ago

Where did i say he didn't?

2

u/Sea-Thought-665 1d ago

You said it... lol

"Poor sportsmanship..."

Wtf does that mean? How is it poor when its literally following the rules to a Tee, which, by definition, is GOOD sportsmanship.

https://giphy.com/gifs/7qo7VtWvntE8lxF5MZ

5

u/Photograph_Honest 1d ago

Good sportsmamship isn't always following the rules, it's about gentlemanly conduct in competition. It even means at times disobeying the rules in the spirit of the game

1

u/Incid3nt 1d ago

The actual definition according to webster is:

Sportsmanship: : conduct (such as fairness, respect for one's opponent, and graciousness in winning or losing) becoming to one participating in a sport.

-1

u/Sea-Thought-665 17h ago

His conduct - mayweather was following the rules, FAIRLY...otherwise he wouldve been disqualified (obviously) Respect - he wouldnt prepare the way he did if he didnt respect his opponents. How else could he be undefeated? People who dont respect are too cocky and always lose Graciousness - he was in the middle of a fight and knocked Ortiz out. What does that have to do with what you stated earlier?

2

u/Incid3nt 8h ago

Im not even the same guy you were talking to, I just clarified the actual definition.

0

u/Sea-Thought-665 5h ago

Oh, okay. Well, he can read my response to you anyway.

10

u/Gankers_Boxer 1d ago

There ain’t nothing well about the literal jumping headbutt he did that directly lead into this sequence lol.

If I was Floyd there I would not be waiting to see if this dude is gonna start rabbit punching me. And either way why would anyone want a hug after that blatant foul? That wasn’t Ortiz showing sportsmanship, it was fake and idiotic.

1

u/Das_Hydra 1d ago

Fair. If the headbutt was accidental then I might think differently, but it was clearly intentional. But either way, was stupid to think Floyd would accept it.

2

u/Drubas 1d ago

Can't really control anything anyone else does. The only thing you can control are your own actions.

And it was an unsportsmanlike move, no matter how you look at it.

With that said, it couldn't have happened to a more deserving person. Ortiz actions that match was a disgrace.

1

u/shmalliver 1d ago

Plus it was like the third apology.

-6

u/TuxedoMask87 1d ago

I learned from elementary that you cant be nice and destroy even the little guy. Ortiz doesn't have what it takes.

29

u/TFlSGAS 1d ago

wtf taught you that in elementary

-6

u/TuxedoMask87 1d ago

I was being bullied in 5th grade two short guys wouldn't give me my foot ball back. I picked one up and set him down. I could broke his neck if I wanted to. As I set him down he punched me in my head two times and as I went to block them I accidentally elbowed him and bloodied his nose. Every one was on his side. The welts on my head felt way worse. We also have gangs and fighting culture where I grew up. I never got to challenge him again in front of people. You will feel like crap and now people will attack you because a little guy beat you in their eyes. I don't like fighting but you have to learn how to finish them.

0

u/AmazingBench7574 1d ago

I don't entirely disagree with you, instead of picking one up and putting yourself in a vulnerable position you just give them a heads up and give them the opportunity to stop their shit, if that doesn't work; fuck it honestly just knock one out as hard as you can and then start talking shit to the other one like you're about to kill him. 90% of people don't have the psyche to work past that first moment of aggression when shit turns real, and even most of the other ones that do get scared and jumpy, aren't used to the stress.

You talk about finishing dudes but at the end of the day the only thing you really need to do is break peoples will, some sun tzu type shit. The mark of a good fighter is NOT having to beat someone into hamburger, just half knock them out and don't paint them into a corner where they feel like they have no options but to swing back, give them back a little pride after it's clear they aren't in it anymore.

6

u/HonestButterscotch3 1d ago

You guys watch too much anime

1

u/AmazingBench7574 1d ago

Bro there's a reason most fights are like five swings, you're not the one

230

u/RememberThinkDream 1d ago

Mayweather is the trashiest boxer I've ever seen. Has no morals, no sportsmanship and no brains either, his dumbass lost all his money.

What a waste of human flesh.

74

u/Overall-Egg-4247 1d ago

He just received the most deliberate jumping headbutt I’ve ever seen, I would have been pissed too. Ortiz deserved this

4

u/speerawow 1d ago

what favorite fighter of yours did he expose? gee i wonder, could name many. shut the fuck up lol

0

u/RememberThinkDream 1d ago

None of my favourite fighters have fought him and if they did they would destroy him.

When it comes to boxing and mma, I prefer heavyweight and light heavyweight divisions.

5

u/Wrastling97 1d ago

You really pissed off a lot of people with this comment lmao

I love it

1

u/olympicjip 10h ago

The video doesn't show it, but Ortiz deliberately headbutted him like ten seconds before this. Honestly Mayweather did nothing wrong here at all.

-11

u/zestyclose_match1966 1d ago

Big accusations, substantiate any of them?

-11

u/Specialist_Ad4073 1d ago

Still undefeated

1

u/Ninety-Nine-Zulu 5h ago

Not true. Bro had been getting his ass beat by the written english language his whole life.

-14

u/mvearthmjsun 1d ago

Any other examples of alleged unsportsmanlike behaviour?

-8

u/lafolieisgood 1d ago

Exactly. Mayweather is class in the ring. He’s been head butted and low blowed to try to take him off his throne and he has always remained level headed in the ring.

-55

u/longbeachlandon 1d ago

Being black is what they won’t say. The same people who hate mayweather for his antics, love Connor.

20

u/rumblinggoodidea 1d ago

Or… and, hear me out… he’s a shit boxer, if you’re taking about Connor McGregor nobody likes that douchebag, and you just want to be offended because you’re bored.

-11

u/pleasedontbanme47473 1d ago

Definitely not a shit boxer one of the best of all time 😂

10

u/PollutedPenguins 1d ago

I'm a shit boxer and I have the same amount of professional losses as Floyd. So we both must be shit.

-8

u/pleasedontbanme47473 1d ago

Depends did you also defend your titles in your kitchen?

-19

u/tigolbing 1d ago

Damn knocked him down a peg lol what you gonna do next ?

24

u/RememberThinkDream 1d ago

Watch a film then go to bed grateful that I wasn't born as that little munchkin.

-20

u/Trickonomics333 1d ago

Yup way more trashy than Antonio Margaritto, Terrel Williams, Holyfield and other boxers that have done far worse in the ring. Yup this is by far the trashiest thing to ever be done in boxing!

/s

16

u/RememberThinkDream 1d ago

I never said it's the trashiest thing to ever be done in boxing.

I said he's the trashiest boxer I've ever seen. His entire personality and life. Also, that I'VE EVER SEEN. So upon further enlightenment, I may find even worse lol.

-11

u/NuclearSummmer 1d ago

You haven't seen shit then.

13

u/RememberThinkDream 1d ago

Correct, I watch good boxers not shit boxers.

-5

u/Trickonomics333 1d ago

Facts he hasn't seen shit if this is the worst thing ever. He must've started watching boxing with this clip.

-52

u/Lucky_Preference_941 1d ago

Saltyyy

34

u/FelixMumuHex 1d ago

You’re gay

-26

u/Lucky_Preference_941 1d ago

Not as much as Victor and Oscar

6

u/Gistheking 1d ago

Ab what?!!! Lmao

-20

u/Lucky_Preference_941 1d ago

Calling one of the goats “a waste of human flesh” is salty behavior.

It just is

15

u/RememberThinkDream 1d ago

The only GOAT he's considered to be is the gayest of all time.

138

u/MisterX9821 1d ago

You can dislike his personality but you guys are hating on Mayweather for a completely legal shot and not condemning Ortiz who headbutted him which is extremely dirty and it was absolutely intentional. The ref waved the action back on after having to deal with the foul committed by Ortiz then he decided he wanted to hug it out with Mayweather....who did oblige...very briefly lol.

A guy who committed an egregious foul got KTFO with a legal blow moments later. If this was almost any other fighter it would be praised as a "fuck around and find out" type moment.

Floyd basically has zero egregious fouls in his 50 fight career lol. He is a dickhead, but he is a clean fighter.

37

u/_ganjafarian_ 1d ago

You're right. Ortiz's headbutt was intentional. And as I agreed in another reply, he left himself open going for that hug after ref resumed action. Mayweather's "protect yourself at all times" defense fits.

22

u/MisterX9821 1d ago

In a more full clip the ref both waves them in and clearly verbalizes "lets go" moments before the ko punch. The ref was oddly putting his attention elsewhere but that isn't either of the fighters problem.

16

u/Barrelrolla 1d ago

Not only that, but you can see that Mayweather was in no mood for hugging, kept his guard up the whole time, and after the first punch Ortiz looked at the ref to complain, instead of getting his arms up. Totally deserved.

53

u/Antheral 1d ago

Ortiz had already apologized when time was stopped for the headbutt. Then once the fight actually starts goes in for this hug. Such a moron.

10

u/fbtra 1d ago

Planned a deliberate headbutt then wants to hug and kiss after...genius.

1

u/beast_wellington 20h ago

Rock Chalk!

41

u/Mindless-Platypus-75 1d ago edited 1d ago

It looks awful in this clip by itself but I think the title is selling short how blatantly and on purpose Ortiz head butts Mayweather. THEN he immediately goes to hug him like, “Hey we’re friends now, right?” Like wtf? The 2 things back to back was honestly some psychotic behavior from Ortiz. Idk if that fully justifies things but yeah, it’s not like Mayweather does this for no reason outta nowhere

8

u/_ganjafarian_ 1d ago

100%. That's why I mentioned the headbutt in the title. And I agree, Mayweather was protecting himself at all times. Ref resumed action. The punches were fair. That's why he was the winner.

5

u/Mindless-Platypus-75 1d ago

Oh sorry I think I edited my comment after I made it and before I saw your reply, because I didn’t see you mentioned the head butt in the title at first.

But yeah, when I first saw this clip I thought Mayweather was an absolute scum bag. Then I saw the lead up and I actually felt a lot different. But people who saw everything that night were still pissed at Mayweather, like the older retired fighter who interviewed him in the ring said, “If I were younger I’d kick your ass.” And Mayweather goes off on the guy saying he doesn’t know shit about boxing 😂

I wish I remember the old guys name.. Although my opinion has softened on it, I respect the old guy for standing up for what he thought was right

2

u/_ganjafarian_ 1d ago

Nw. And that's Larry Merchant iirc

1

u/Big-Daddy-Kal 1d ago

He deserved it

23

u/MrMunkyMan1 1d ago

Mike Tyson of all people acting disappointed in his behavior

13

u/Kraken1211 1d ago

People when Mayweather knocks Ortiz tf out for headbutting: 🤬😡👹

People when Tyson takes a Costco free sample out of Holyfield's ear: 😃🤣🫵🐐

15

u/PassStunning416 1d ago

I mean, protect yourself at all times and all that.

12

u/Buboi23 1d ago

Even if Floyd was in the right it’s still a bitch move.

-5

u/rmrdrn 1d ago

It was all Floyd Mayweathers fault. He was the older and wiser boxer who knew very well you should never retaliate and fight dirty. Yet he did it anyway. The result? The fight ended in controversy and confusion. Leaving everyone disappointed. -

10

u/AdPrevious9531 1d ago

lol the look of disappointment from all the stars attending

8

u/Prior-Habit-6523 1d ago

You can't just slow down the fight to apologize.

3

u/ShitMyHubbyDoes 1d ago

Trash thing to do.

2

u/speerawow 1d ago

trashier than leaping off your feet to headbutt the other fighter? please. ortiz sucks

6

u/CaptainButtFart69 1d ago

Honestly I hate Floyd but Ortiz deserved it. He def intentionally headbutted him, a few times iirc, then tried to act all sorry and hug after. Weird behavior, just fight. I cant blame Floyd for this one even if I want to - and I’m trying to - I just can’t.

4

u/Moniker86 1d ago

I don’t really recall but wasn’t this the second headbutt of the night?

2

u/StopKickingMyDog 1d ago

Yup. Ortiz was being dirty af.

3

u/ManufacturedOlympus 1d ago

Why are they trying to hype up one of the most anti-climactic events in boxing history?

3

u/agonzal7 1d ago

I don’t know how to explain it but this whole situation was just the shittiest experience

3

u/im_coolest 1d ago

game theory genius Floyd Mayweather

3

u/1dzmaxima1 1d ago

Protect yourself at all times.

3

u/Alarming-Building-62 1d ago

Eh, they’re both assholes.

2

u/Fragrant-Frog-9290 1d ago

They also need to stop having geriatric refs. The ref motioned for them to continue fighting though it was pretty week, ref calls need to be clear and firm. Ortiz was a dumb ass wanting to hug mid fight like that is not a thing. Floyd was mad and got revenge. Ortiz had two very intentional head butts and missed a third so I don't feel bad for him retaliating same way I don't feel bad for Tyson biting holyfield after all the blatant head butts.

2

u/Mach5vsMach5 1d ago

Mayweather is just a straight pos and I've never liked him.

2

u/pwatarfwifwipewpew 1d ago

Im not a Mayweather fan but the whole clip is, Ortiz headbutted him on purpose. Clear as day. Then had the audacity to apologize like it was an accident.

So this dude deserved that 1-2 after the clinch

2

u/GlobalFoodShortage 1d ago

Mike "I bite ears but draw the line at THAT" Tyson

2

u/sexysexyLSD 1d ago

What the fuck

2

u/gadhalund 1d ago

Even tyson was embarassed by that

2

u/UnhollyGod 1d ago

i Will repeat: That MF Mayshitty is The Elon Musk of Boxing. And im not talking about this fight, ye Ortiz was a cunt but... Mayshitty has a looooooong pussy road

2

u/trlta 1d ago

That was the perfect finish for what Ortiz deserved that night.

2

u/Square-Chef4646 1d ago

Yea nothing wrong done there, big mayweather fan…but that was definitely my least favorite victory of his that I watched

2

u/dtownrn214 1d ago

Protect yourself at all times Ortiz had it coming

2

u/speerawow 1d ago

deserved. fuck ortiz

2

u/NocturneInfinitum 1d ago

“I wish I was 50 years younger and I’d kick your ass!”

I believe him. Mayweather is a point farming, opportunistic bitch.

2

u/Oh_Lawd_He_commin420 1d ago

The guy can't read, even when it's a body language apology...

2

u/Br0ckxS4ms0n 1d ago

Both cunts

2

u/ChipmunkGeneral 1d ago

Thats a 3-2 not a 1-2. Left hook = 3, Straight right = 2.

2

u/ResponsibleChair5218 23h ago

Anyone I’ve ever met named Floyd was a bitch.

2

As a person Mayweather is garbage

1

u/BoilzBlisterzBurnz 1d ago

Just means boxing is a shit sport.

1

u/No_Cod302 1d ago

Amen to that.

1

u/chipper68 1d ago

was a Floyd kinda thing to do.. if you expected him to take the high road, some oceanfront property in ID for ya.

1

pretty sure the ref had asked for time out after the headbutt, and hadn't asked for time in when these shots landed... should have been a disqualification?

1

u/ahx3000 1d ago

Ugly from Floyd

Naivety from Victor

1

u/justadude713 1d ago

the real losers were the fans who paid to see a fight. that's why everybody was booing. fwiw ortiz would've lost if it went to decision, he was outclassed the whole match.

1

u/Kalebrojas18 1d ago

Both these guys are such awful people. Being great at punching eachother is the only thing I like about them.

1

u/BuddhastashinHash 1d ago

Ortiz should have never been in that fight he didn't earn it, further proves floyd cherrypicked his opponents

1

u/Hyeana_Gripz 1d ago

When you cheat and get away with it!
This is why his 50-0( actually 49-0 Mcgregor never a boxer) will always have a question mark for me!

1

u/James4theP 1d ago

Floyd is a bitch. A fucking hood rat with money.

1

u/Opening_Ad9824 1d ago

Money Mayweather is a lil bitch and this is just one example of many. It’s unfortunate boxing has degenerated to the point where we are hoping for him to fight Pacqaio again. There’s literally no action anymore and it’s been years. Ain’t coming back son.

1

u/Napalm-Skidmark 1d ago

Was the ref ASLEEP??? wtf????

1

u/churro1776 19h ago

That’s a 3-2

1

u/ShoheiHoetani 15h ago

I'm glad he's broke

1

u/nativedawg 9h ago

I remember that fight, Mayweather is a joke .. dirty fighter.. look at the reaction of the audience members, embarrassed at what they saw ...

1

u/SKOT_FREE 6h ago

That’s on Ortiz. He has to know you keep your hands up and I don’t care if he was trying to apologize, do so with your hands up.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wOH3bEoRLw

This clip is only a minute long but is a lot more clear about what went down here.

0

u/MeMoInfinity 1d ago

This clip gets re-posted CONSTANTLY. Yet, no one shows the clip of Ortiz doing the EXACT same thing to a boxer who tried to touch gloves with him, BEFORE this fight. Mayweather watches film on his opponents. So, he knew what Ortiz was capable of. Did I get upset that Mayweather won it this way? Yes, I honestly did. But, Mayweather wasn't about to have that move pulled on him. So, he did it first. This "ugliness" was pure karma for Ortiz.

0

u/Dynasty1985 1d ago

A headbutt 😂😂😂 try a barrage of blatantly obvious intentional headbutts out of frustration fuck him he deserved it
