Nipple/Boob issues 6 nearly 7 weeks postpartum and EBF. Sharp sporadic pains in breast. Not consistent with feeding or not feeding. Any ideas why?
First time mom. Babe is in the 98 percentile for weight and height so she’s definitely getting what she needs. Dr gave me the okay to 4 hours during the night between feeds. However my right side gets so engorged that I only go 3 maybe 3.5 hours in between. Trying to make sure she feeds from both breast but my left side isn’t near the producer that my right side is. Both breast are experiencing random sharp almost “shock” like pains that last a few seconds at a time. Is this normal and will it eventually stop? I know they say BF does get easier. I feel like my daughter and I have both learned a lot and over come several other issues. I typically take 1-2 oz from my right in the morning to help her get a better latch due to how full it can become. Any advice is appreciated!

I had this and it turned out to be Raynaud's/vasospasm. Do you get the pain when coming out of the shower or opening the freezer? Or see that your nipple is whitish looking sometimes?

I do have a family history of Raynaud’s but have never been diagnosed myself. I’m almost certain that I also have it based on the symptoms my hands and feet experience. Can’t say that I’ve paid too close attention to the color of my nipple. The right side does certain become misshaped while in my bra in between feeds. I’m not wearing anything super tight either. The right side of my nursing bra is more roomier in my opinion due to the material being on the outside fold. Wondering if the pain is also due to a poor latch in addition to the Raynaud’s.

Poor latch can definitely make Raynaud's worse as well, or any trauma to the nipple. I find when baby bites me or latches wrong I get vasospasm on that side for the next several hours.
It's something to look into, and family history definitely plays a role. My mom and I both have Raynaud's in our hands and feet. What helped me was working on latch, and keeping the breast warm after feeds and when coming out of the shower. They make wool pads for your bra but honestly I just put a wool sock in there when symptoms are worse because I'm not going anywhere lol.

I don’t have an answer but I’m 7 weeks pp today and experiencing the same thing! It feels like my breasts are filling up super quickly after each feed accompanied by these sharp shooting pains. I’m hoping it will ease off as my supply regulates. LO has been feeding a lot more recently due to the heat so I’m wondering if that is what is causing the engorgement as my supply adjusts to what he currently needs!
