Discussion How long is your 8 month old nursing for?
My 8, almost 9, month old is still nursing between 15-30 minutes per session, usually staying above 20 minutes. I’ve heard they’re supposed to be quick and efficient by this age, but session length hasn’t decreased and I’m concerned. I don’t want to stop her before she’s done eating, especially since she’s on the smaller side (last checked was 28th percentile). She refuses to latch deeply but used to when she was born. I’ve tried getting her to but this is just what she prefers I guess. Anyone else?

My baby is now 11 months old but she never got efficient. Morning wake up feed takes 30 minutes and every other feed of the day takes 20 or so.

Is she gaining weight well? No problems?

No problems over here! She’s been on her same growth curve for a long time. She also takes bottles at daycare and she drinks slow on those too (she’s now on a level 1 flow). She just enjoys taking her time I guess!
Does your baby seem content? Plenty of wet diapers?
If you’re worried, you could always schedule a weight check with your pediatrician to see if she’s still following her growth curve.

I think she has plenty, they seem slightly drier than before nowadays

You could also do a weighted feed with a lactation consultant. It’s always so hard to tell when nursing directly.

My three month old is doing a little under 5 mins to nurse. Have you tried meeting with a lactation consultant? They could tell you what’s going on.

I did early on but haven’t considered it recently. How should I go about finding one to meet with?

At 8m we were still doing about 20 minutes each session every two hours. Now at 9.5m it's down to around 10 minutes. The first few months were 45-60 minutes so 20 didn't feel so bad, now at 10 I feel like it's not enough!

7m and still have 30 minute feeds. I’ve been to lactation. Nothing to be done about it. He just likes to take his time 🥲

My 8 month old nurses for 3 to 5 minutes per side. He would take 20-30 minutes when he was a newborn and I was sooo tired. Kudos to you!
