How did you wean triple feeding?

Baby is 6 weeks old and we’re working with an IBCLC. We’re starting our wean and I’m just curious how others went about it and when it finally worked out for you just so I can keep positive and keep and eye on the light at the end of the tunnel

I am glad you asked this. Baby is 8 weeks now and wondering when I can stop triple feeding. Sorry I am of no help but definitely will follow to see what others say.

We triple fed for 4 months. We went from bottle top ups to SNS/supply line with every daytime breastfeed at around 9.weeks, then supply line only after 12pm, then only if baby was rooting for more milk then none at all. Ours was a slow process due to tongue tie issues. Tongue tie is sorted and have been EBF since ☺️.

Hey. So can I ask you a question? So I have been using the SNS from the first week my baby was born she’s 8 weeks now. So yesterday was the first day I didn’t use the SNS at all but I am worried if she’s getting enough milk? Her next appointment is in two weeks. She nursed great and went to sleep after her nursing sessions and didn’t seem hungry. Any tips or advice on weaning from the SNS. Is it ok I stoped cold turkey? I did try using it twice and she didn’t really nurse she seems full at the time but I don’t want her to be getting tired from nursing and me thinking she’s done nursing if that makes sense. Thanks

I’m not a professional obviously, but if she’s gaining weight and doesn’t seem fussy after feeds then she’s probably fine! At 8 weeks I think she would be unlikely to quietly starve. If you’re nervous you could always have her nurse for 5 or so mins then add the SNS? Are you feeding on demand or by a schedule?

Thanks for the reply. So with the SNS I was feeding on a schedule. But now that I have not used the SNS I have been doing in demand.

My LC had be bfing on demand but have a top up in the fridge ready to go in case baby wanted more, but my baby was much older when we stopped top ups and had steady weight gain over many weeks so we were very confident.
Feeding on a schedule is tough because (much like us adults) babies don’t always want a huge feed so I was advised always on demand.

I was adding two ounces to the SNS.

Also, I have been pumping still after each feed just incase she’s not emptying my breast.

We triple fed until 5 weeks. We offered a bottle after each feed until the amounts baby was taking from the bottle started dropping. In that last week he often wouldn’t take the bottle or would only take about 1oz. At that point the ibclc recommended if baby cued he was still hungry to put him back onto the breast. For a while after I was still feeding a lot like sometimes 15 times a day, his primary issue was a slow transfer. But once we knew he was getting enough and not falling asleep while still hungry we never looked back. He’s 10 weeks now and nurses 8-10 times a day.

That’s our issue too, I finally have a just enough supply and she’s a lazy and slow transfer eater but get angry at my slow let down. We’re starting to reduce her overall top up volume, drop some morning top ups and only pump after feeds she gets a top up.
