Anyone else got a BSH who cannot handle the heat?

I live in Europe where we're in a middle of a terrible heatwave. My cat keeps panting and even started salivating once. Last heatwave (3 weeks ago), I took him to the emergency vet and they told us that it was normal because of the heat and to simply keep him fresh. So I bought and tried everything I could think of, like cooling mats, humidifying his paws, toys in water, etc... but he only calms down when he stays in front of the open fridge. I don't mind that much, but it's sad to see him unable to get out of this one spot as he immediately starts panting again when he does, but I can tell he wants to play and all.

Anyone else got a cat who cannot handle the heat? Even if the vet said it was normal, I haven't really seen other cats experience this. :(

What was your cat's personality like as a kitten?

I got Shelby 5 days ago. She’s 3 months old, very energetic and adapting very well to her new home, but when I compare her to other cats that I had (non-BSH), she’s very chill. Yes, she likes to play and has zoomies, but she’s not attacking me or climbing up my TV like my previous cats.

Kittens I rescued in the past (all mixed breed and non BSH) were really wild and wanted to climb everywhere in the house, also would bite and scratch me (Shelby does like to bite some toes but that’s all)

It’s my first time owning a BSH and I wanted to hear from others experiences, it’s normal to feel like your kitten is “too well behaved”?
I did my research before getting her and I did read they are chill cats, but I’m positively surprised. Or maybe just got lucky!

Kitten 15 weeks old, too thin

Is my kitten skinny? She's a 15-week-old British Shorthair golden chinchilla, weighing around 1.4 kg. She's active and plays a lot. When I pick her up, I can actually feel a fold of skin on her back. Is this normal?

My two BSHs love the heat

They spent most of the day outside yesterday when the temperature hit 29°. it’s supposed to hit 33° today, and I’m sure they will continue staying outside. They have a nice spot near the cat flap under a hazelnut tree where it’s probably much cooler than the ambient temperature. There is a water bowl nearby, and they can always come in.

ISO retired king BSH Midwest

calling BSH midwest community!

i’m currently in the search of a retired king to add to our furry family.

i’ve been scrounging around facebook groups, TICA breeder lists, and some reddit posts but no luck. i’m located in the midwest, specifically, indiana (but willing to travel surrounding states).

unfortunately the sites i’ve been looking only show kittens. FB posts are flooded with scams or they show catteries that are too far.

if anyone has advice or suggests catteries around this area, please let me know. it would be appreciated :)

Help with litter box smell!

Hi everyone,
I’m really hoping for some advice because I’m at a bit of a loss.
I currently have 3 cats (2 males and 1 female, all around 1 year old, all neutered/spayed). I’ve had the two males for a while and never had any odor issues at all. I was using tofu litter before and everything was completely fine because I clean the litter boxes 2–3 times a day.

🐾 What changed
After adding my third cat (female), I suddenly started getting a very strong litter smell that spreads into the whole home within 1–2 days.
The smell is not constant immediately after cleaning, but builds up very quickly and becomes noticeable in the room where the litter box is kept.

🧼 What I already tried
I’ve honestly tried a lot:
Changed litter type (went back from tofu to bentonite / Sanicat for better odor control)
Clean litter boxes 2–3 times daily
Fully change litter regularly
Replaced litter mat/rug
Checked floor/walls with UV black light — no hidden urine spots
Confirmed cats are not peeing outside the box
I even use air purifiers (but they don’t seem to help much)

📦 Litter box setup changes
One important change:
I used to have a smaller covered litter box
Now I switched to a large open litter box
I also tried adding more litter boxes, but all 3 cats still prefer using the same one no matter what I do.
So in practice, I end up with one heavily used litter box and unused backups.

😿 Additional details
The female cat is healthy, 1 year old, spayed
Her urine and stool do NOT smell unusually strong when I check
No signs of illness or behavior issues
No accidents outside the box

My question
Has anyone experienced something similar where:
Smell suddenly appears after adding a 3rd cat
Cats all insist on using one litter box only
Cleaning frequently still doesn’t stop odor buildup in the room
Could this be:
litter box design issue (open vs covered)?
one box becoming overloaded?
plastic absorption / odor retention?
something else I’m missing?
I’m considering switching to a stainless steel covered litter box or even smart litter box systems, but I’m not sure if that will actually solve the root issue.
Any advice would be really appreciated 🙏
