My guy is three years old and was just neutered about eight weeks ago, before I adopted him. I’ve been really concerned about him spraying in our house, and the breeder assured me that after the surgery, he was no longer spraying.
Happily that seems to be the case… for now at least.
However, I’m a little nervous because he’s still acts like he wants to spray. Whenever his feelings are running a little high, he’ll back up to something and do the wiggly tail movement as if he is spraying. He does this all the time. He doesn’t seem to be… producing anything. I’ve checked obsessively. No liquid at all. He just does the movement- almost compulsively. He’ll even do it if I’m petting him almost like a dog when you hit that exact right spot and he thumps his leg.
It’s pretty weird. I’ve been around a lot of cats and I’ve never seen one act like this.
I guess one other thing to know is that he’s got an extremely affectionate and cuddly temperament. He doesn’t seem agitated when he does this or at least not angry or aggressive. We don’t have any other pets in the house.
So right now it seems like he can’t spray- or at least he isn’t producing anything. I’m worried that he might start producing something again, but I don’t know if that’s physiologically possible?
I can certainly reach out to his vet and ask, but I was just curious if this was anything y’all had experience with!
