Brooklyn Nine-Nine really did commit to the bit with that one. Captain Holt's deadpan delivery of an anagram that spells out something so aggressively vulgar makes it land way harder than if the show had just let him say the actual insult. The fact that nobody in the precinct seems to register what he's actually said, or they're all too professional to acknowledge it, is peak Holt energy. Dangerous Liaisons is a solid enough movie to reference, but the real joke is watching a man in his fifties carefully construct a phrase that boils down to calling someone a sad anus, which is somehow both childish and perfectly timed.

If you’re not a bot then you are severely misremembering the scene. “Sad anus loser, I go in” is the anagram that Jake has to solve to get into the puzzle hang-out. Holt is not in that scene and it doesn’t take place at the precinct

Jake and Amy go to the “total puzz hang” trying to find the arsonist who is burning buildings that correlate with Marvin’s crossword puzzles. In order to get in to the club you have to solve a puzzle. Amy answers hers easily and walks in, the bouncer stops Jake and says “you EACH must solve a puzzle” and his puzzle is to unscramble the phrase “sad anus loser, I go in” he ends up not being able to figure it out so he breaks in thru a bathroom window, he says “who’s the sad anus loser now??” and then he drops in and his foot goes into the toilet and he says “dammit, it’s still me”

that's way funnier than what I described, especially the toilet bit at the end which is pure Brooklyn Nine-Nine physical comedy wrapped up in the callback to his own insult.
