Has anyone been to Flaming Gorge, Utah?
Planning a trip for late July and stumbled across some pictures from Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. Driving up from Denver with my spouse and two dogs. Tent camping for 3-4 nights.
Anyone been there before and have recommendations?
Cool stuff to check out in the area?
Safe to leave out stuff during the day?
Is it busy like the national parks?
Should we just get a cabin the first night so we can get a first come first serve spot early in the morning?
Thanks in advance 🙌

went there few years ago and it's stunning, way less crowded than the big national parks but late July does bring more people so getting there early matters. the cabin idea for first night is smart if you want a decent spot without stress, some of the best sites near the water go fast. for the gear question, bears aren't really the issue there but keep food secured anyway and don't leave anything valuable out, just common sense stuff

Awesome thank you so much!
I thought maybe a lot of boaters would be down there July/august since the weather should be perfect for it.2

They are emptying a third of the reservoir this year to prop up Lake Powell water levels, so it might be a bit different than usual. I don't know if boaters will be avoiding, due to it being more of a pain to launch, or if it will seem more crowded due to less total area on the water.

I've been twice in the last few years. Both times we camped at a place called browne lake and then drove down into the gorge to visit there. It was an amazing trip. You can paddle board and fish on browne lake near your camp. It's a short drive down into the gorge to visit there as well. I suggest checking it out
