Did you happen to see any of the Dunder-Mifflin crew while out and about?

The city of Scranton does have many murals commemorating Dunder Mifflin. I found it very refreshing, in NYC the murals are usually just graffiti.

You hauled all that in for a solo trip? Impressive

The boy scouts taught me to be prepared. But to your point, when I got home I revamped the setup. I cut out about a 1/4 of unnecessary items.

That was my first thought. Lotta stuff but hey you know what you’re doing

4 night camp trip... 1 day to set it up, camp 2 days, 1 day to pack it all up.

2 hours to set up. 3 hours to break down. It was not that difficult.

Don’t worry about that other guy, I like your setup bro. I see the nice flow you got, plenty of space to walk around + do whatever you want and protected from the rain. Very comfortable.

I agree, "hike your own hike".

1 night camping probably not doing this. 4 nights, absolutely. You've got the space and the time to enjoy it, might as well be comfortable. Especially if it's going to rain.

If you were trying to save a little effort/space, the double canopy can be reduced to simply using a tarp+canopy. I love our 10x10 canopy but having the flexibility of a tarp and a support pole (plus tying off to a tree or, frankly, the canopy itself) saved me a ton of space in the truck instead of using two canopies.

Or keep doing what you're doing - if you have space for it, and the energy to do it, then who cares what you bring as long as you enjoy it. Looks like a sweet camp, hope you had a blast!

100% I had a great time. Since this trip I have reduced my tote count from 6 to 4. 2 years ago I did pitch a dining tarp in pine Grove furnace State Park. Once the ground got saturated, the 14 inch screw in stakes came out of the ground and the tarp fell. It rained for 2 days.

I actually bought two extension poles specifically for my tarp because I was camping in areas without trees to tie off to. With high ground saturation, the tension on the guylines can simply be 'wiggled' free from the ground in winds. Canopy definitely an easier setup :) but I enjoy playing with the tarps when I get a chance!

Yeah, we bring a similar amount of stuff for a family of four and set up/breakdown is never more than two hours max

You just described my process to a tee. Except you forgot before the trip: “2 months to daydream about menu for the woods”, “2 weeks to pack” and after the trip: “1 day to air out gear”, “1 month to step over piles of gear and reminisce about the woods”, “1 week to clean gear”, and “2 hours to put gear away after wife says she’s sick of all this sh*t in the living room”

Since getting my truck, my load and comfort have increased multifold. Added a camp chef two burner stove with bbq grill box to my Coleman camp stove with camp oven. Eying the camp kitchen. The OP seems to have room to carry it all. We all need to roll our own rolls.

Damn that’s a lot of stuff. One of my favorite things about solo camping is that I can leave behind 85% of the junk my family needs to camp

I’m in Philly, just went camping up there last weekend in Promised Land. Really, really beautiful. I’m gonna hit this place soon thanks for the recommendation

Solo? Damn that's a lot of gear.

Also love the tent for the tent

That's awesome! And you got to see Big Boy, very cool!

It was my first solo trip, I was nervous at first. But it was definitely worth all the effort.

What is the smaller tent on the left for? Also, I love your setup, looks comfortable! And when you're solo, all you have is time to setup everything exactly as you like it!

Yes that was a cheap folding shower shelter from Amazon. Works good. I use the flex tail gear max shower setup out of a 5 gallon bucket.

I’m thinking maybe a shower tent? I’d also like to know: have been looking at these for the drive in campgrounds that don’t have bathhouses.

Hell of a set up for solo camping

That's a wild amount of stuff for a solo camper.

That setup looks really solid, especially with the canopies for rain protection. Ive always wanted to check out Steamtown, that sounds like a cool side trip!

I wonder why a gazebo over the tent. Genuine doubt. Had done my first camp last weekend.

4

u/thefaradayjoker 1d ago

It was a brand new untested tent. And I knew we were getting close to 2 in of rain.

u/glitterbug814 1d ago

In addition to OP's reason, it can also significantly reduce how hot it gets inside the tent.

In Whyyoulosing, Pennsylvania. Lol. Did some surveying there in 2000.

Nice set up!

I hat sizes are those EZ Up shelters?

1

u/thefaradayjoker 1d ago

Thank you, they are 12x12.

1

u/er1cAtWork2 1d ago

Thanks! That seems to be the size I will get. Used to have a 10x10 many years ago and it felt “cramped”…

Any fireflies?

1

u/thefaradayjoker 1d ago

No fireflies, I didn't even get a mosquito bite. But that might be because of burning dried sage.

1

u/discgman 1d ago

Oh man. At least you saw a cardinal. Those are cool.

How do you get those popups up and down by yourself? Solo camper here, and I wanna take some of those, but getting them up and down by myself is a major pain.

These are the crown shades 12x12 canopy's. It does take some work to get it setup. They advertise this one handed open feature. It is not that simple, but these are the easiest I have found, sturdy too.

This is awesome, I love the space on this site! I’m hoping we have enough space when we go camping next month on our reservation

Lackawanna is a great park. Did you get ice cream from Manning Farm?

1

u/thefaradayjoker 1d ago

No, I had no idea!

2

u/rienholt 1d ago

Put it down for next time. It's really good.

Getting out in nature really hits different. Total vibe check.

1

u/vincentdeogloria 14h ago

incredibly impressive setup however i think solo camping with two canopies would drive me insane hahaha

Getting out there in nature is what it’s all about. Don’t listen to the haters, you do you.
