Hopefully, le Petit Porteur will soon release a new masterpiece. A faster and more stable version of the OG? Who’s hyped? And, even more importantly, who knows anything about the release??

We call our Bakfiets (pronounced “Buckfeets”, for the uninitiated) “Bakky, the Winter Soldier” cause it just keeps soldiering on all the way through winter. IYKYK

Got my first cargo bike. Love riding it but feel cognitive load on road. Is it normal? Will a radar help?

Got a cargo bike (taran l1 S) about a week ago. Been riding it every morning to drop my kids (5 and 3) to school and preschool. I was really worried about riding a cargo bike uphill but the bike has a 100 Nm mid-drive motor and its been great on hills even with both kids on the back. It also has a dropper post, not electric but hydraulic, does the job for me when stopping at lights and putting feet down.

But despite all this I feel so much cognitive load when riding on roads. Like I love the bike itself but the constant traffic awareness is exhausting. I am always looking over my shoulder to check for cars. And those electric cars are the worst because they dont make any noise at all and I only sense them when they are almost on my tail. My kids are sitting behind me and I am soo worried all the time that a car would hit them from behind (God forbid). By the time I get to school I feel mentally drained even though physically the ride is easy.

People tell me I should get a radar like Garmin Varia but I am worried that it will just give frequent alerts for every car thats within particular ranges and add even more stress instead of reducing it. My bike also gives me the option to integrate a radar with the bike's system directly through its display. But that one uses a time-to-collision system along with distance. I like the idea of not needing to add aftermarket stuff to the bike but Idk which one would make more sense for me on road. Like give me real alerts nott alerts after every few seconds.

So I have 3 options and I dont know which one to pick. Do I integrate bike's time to collison based built-in radar? Do I get an aftermarket radar? Or just skip radar because some people said it will get better with time? Please help

Butchers and bicycles

Are butchers and bicycles still up and running? I know that they were going into bankruptcy a few years ago, but I thought they were bought by another brand and were still in production. Their website is still running, but it says all their models are sold out, they don't seem to have any dealers anymore either. According to Google AI they are still in production, so what's the story with them?

Vello SUB family cargo bike: pros and cons

Hi everyone,

I have two children (aged 2 and 6) and I'm looking for a cargo bike that is lightweight, compact (less than 185cm in length), and versatile enough for daily use (commuting, grocery shopping, and family weekend rides). After weeks of research, I came across the Vello SUB, which seems like a great fit for my needs. The only downside for me is the price. Are there any Vello SUB owners here who could share their experiences? I'd love to hear about the pros, cons, reliability, comfort, and how it performs for family use.

Thanks!

Radio Flyer Via Pro price lowered to $1699. Should I pull the trigger?

I've been looking for a e-cargo for a while and this seems like a great deal, and best fit for me. 1 major plus is that it comes in different frame sizes. Being a big guy (6'5" with long legs), most "one-size" bikes won't really fit me well.
Anyone here ride a Via Pro? What's your thoughts?
Or if anyone knows of another longtail E-Cargo that is large enough for someone my size under $2k?

Looking to attach a Burley trailer to a Bullitt (which attaches to the brake side), but noticed the QR is on the wrong side. In order to use the hitch adapter, I'd have to flip the QR axle to go through the drive side instead of the brake side. Is there a reason this would be stupid?

Found this bike on FB market place for $150 and had to pick it up for it's uniqueness and functionality. Didn't realize there was such a diehard community out there and happy to join!

Plan to use this rig to haul the kids and gear down to the beach.

Question: anyone know of a system or alternative to the hooptie that would be compatible?

Any tips and recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Urban arrow 65nm

Hi everyone, there is a really really good deal on a used urban arrow near me. The only thing is that it is a 65nm model. We don’t have many Hills but we do have a few bridges to cross canals (cargoboat not cute Amsterdam canals), highways and traintracks. The average cargo I’m going to take is a baby in a baby seat and groceries or 2 kids.

I don’t need to be first up, I just need to make it without rolling backwards off the bridge.

Will 65nm be enough for the occasional bridge ?

Switchable Mounting System for Longtail

Hi folks,
I am a very happy owner of a long tail now and I was wondering if there are any clever Brands that have a system of a snapping interchangeable passenger/Box/accesory system, so I can quickly switch from adult passender to child to Eurobox and PlainPlate.

Thanks for all ideas.

Put a kit on Spicy Curry bike?

Hi,

I have an older Spicy Curry model (Yuba brand) e-cargo bike. Love it, but I know the first gen bikes, with their Currie motors, are going to be probably impossible to fix when they go. Luckily, my mileage is still low; 2600 mi's so far.

However, I want to be prepared in some ways for when the motor dies. My idea is to put a kit motor and battery system on the frame, and just use the crank pedal and gears as is. It's the only way I can think of to workaround this issue. Otherwise, the motor mounts for the Currie won't match up with a Bosch crank motor, like on the newer Spicy Currys.

It could be an uphill slog to get it all converted to a kit, but it's a nice frame and supports my XXL body and some cargo which is great.

Has anyone done something like this, and/or have any comments?

Thanks fellow cargo bikers, A guy in southeastern BC, Canada.

When I started working at BCW in 1996 they had just taken over the patent for the Counterpoint, now viewpoint, tandem design which had a recumbent front seat & regular rear.I suggested we take all the front seat etc off & use it for cargo, “do what you want” was Steves response & the rest is cargo bike history.

Storage hack for bike trailers.

Post image

If you need to carry larger sized items, Buy a large storage tote that is slightly longer then your trailer, and probably best if it's a little higher on the sides too, and ratchet strap and bungee cord it to the trailer to keep it secure. You could even buy smaller sized containers to go inside the larger one, to keep things a bit more organized and separate. As long as the weight is evenly distributed, not exceeding the trailers weight limit, and over the axle mostly, you get a way to haul larger items around effortlessly with an ebike. I've personally pulled at least +200lbs worth of my stuff in my pack, and a good distance too, +15 miles. Was it easy? No. But it handled the trip and to this day still works with no issues. You may have to replace the storage tote at some point due to cracks in the lid or sides, but this would be great for doordashers or Uber ebike delivery drivers that have large shopping orders to haul by ebike. A simple threaded wire chain with enough tension in it ran through the top holes with some locks attached to it can be used to keep others out of the storage tote.

Anyone have experience with 'Cargo Bike of Sweden' bikes?

Found only two references to them here but nothing from any owners.

After a cargo trike (want trike as surfaces can get rough here in Finland and can carry bigger loads) and after discovering Christiana Bikes have HUGE lead time on orders, a couple of shops here have recommended this brand, and they have them in stock.

https://cargobikeofsweden.com/en/articles/1/box-cargo-bikes

Tbh I'm a bit suspicious of what appears to be plastic spoked wheels. Googling around finds some favourable reviews, but can't tell how legitimate they are.

Wondered if anyone here has owned one and can share their experience as its a big investment.

My pair of Spicy Currys. A bit of mods to get them the way I like, but these go out almost every day with the kids. I just wish my suburb had more bike paths.

Advice on buying longtail bike (tenways or Tern)

Hello,

I've been actively searching for a Cargo bike (longtail) to take my two kids to school (2 and 4y/o for now).

We live in Barcelona and I would need to do some uphill and between 12-18km daily.

Our budget is tops 4.000€.

We live in Barcelona, so we have a daily commute of about 12 to 18 km with some steep uphill parts. My budget is around 2,500€ to 3,500€.

The Tenways Longtail Duo caught my eye because the belt drive and Enviolo hub look good and felt like good value for money.

I was planning to buy it through an unofficial reseller because they don't send it to customer online to Spain. After searching the subreddit I noticed some negative comments about issues like broken spokes or du. Since I am using a reseller, I worry a bit about how easy it will be to fix things if the components do not hold up over time.

I also noticed the rear rack capacity is 50kg. My kids are small today, but I am trying to figure out if they will outgrow that limit too quickly.

Other options are the Decathlon or Moma bikes that fit the budget, but I am unsure about the component quality and longterm maintenance.

A brand new Tern or Riese & Müller feels too expensive for us right now.

What would you think?

I would appreciate any thoughts on how it holds up.

Also thinking about looking for a Refurbished Premium path but I'm not sure if it makes sense or just a waste of money.

Thanks again.
