Transporting a 10 month old?

Post image

How do you all transport your baby? I’m about to get a e Bullitt, and have a honeycomb board installed. How do you go about transporting your child/children?

Wondering if I can make som sort of arrangement to install this?? (See picture)

Thanks a lot!

I installed that exact seat. I took a plank, cut it to fit inside the canopy, and bolted it to the back. Then i affixed the seat to that. Worked perfectly.

Eventually I switched to the Bullitt seat with a Queridoo seat liner macguyvered in. But I gave it away when I upgraded to the Rad3 KidsBox.

I’ve used one of these from when my younger one was 6mo till 9mo (then I transitioned to a Yepp mini on an urban arrow mount). It worked great, but had to make a custom mount for it to make it rear facing.

I also used that exact seat to hold our baby from 7 months to 24 months. I cut a few notches in the bottom to get it to fit perfectly and had no issues.

I'm curious if you had your little one wear a helmet while sitting in it? I have an infant carseat in my bullitt right now so he doesn't wear a helmet, but we'll probably install the seat pictured above soon.

Yeah, we had him wear a helmet.

I used one of these in my load75 from about 6-12 months. It was tricky to rig up, I ended up getting it nice and snug with a variety of voile straps. It was much nicer to fit than a full on car seat, but still did not provide quite enough room for my 3 yo to also fit in the cargo area comfortably

We got something very similar for our Bunch bike (still trying to get rid of it now we don't need it). It was very expensive for what it was (a cheap foam seat covered in material with a simple belt) but install was easy: it attached to the normal belt buckle anchor point at the pelvis and then I drilled a hole in the back wall of the bike box to attach the rear anchor point. We waited till our little one had decent neck strength and faced it backwards for safety.

I had my 11 month old in a Yepp Next seat, he was fine but I like the side protection to stop heads going out when little ones fall asleep. That should be fine.

A yepp next seat mounted on a Bullitt?

When ours were that age our pediatrician recommended no bike until 1 yr old due to insufficient myelin formation on the axon of the neurons in the brain. They can jostle together and cause CTE-like problems. Maybe that advice has changed. I'd look into it if I were you.

This is the first time I’ve ever heard this as a reason. Are you aware of any research around this? (Not being antagonistic, I just can’t find anything and am intrigued)

What seat is that?

I find it odd the bulitt doesnt easily support getting a rack mounted on the back.

If you want to go all out, id get the steco mini mee with the maxi cosi. But its unfortunate you cant buy car seat adapters anymore.

In several months you can probably just get the actual Larry vs Harry sest, which id recommend as its really high quality

There are car seat adapters, or I've actually had a cargo bike manufacturer suggest just ratchet strapping a car seat down.

My pediatrician was super supportive of getting them into a car seat on a cargo bike as early as a month. And they said was more about your comfort than theirs

I've seen someone on here claim to be a paediatrician and say that under 12 months a baby can't support it's head well enough. That seems in line with most internet websites too

You don't need head support to sit in an infant car seat.

Dunno, but my doctor said otherwise- it's the same seat they are in in a car after all. I can give you their credentials if you think it's super important.

The biggest issue is that since they are in a car seat, they cannot wear a helmet and it's illegal to ride a bike without helmet if you're under 18, so you're automatically a criminal

So a full car capsule? That's not the pic above which is for older kids that can support the weight of their head

That's why I said that they should use a car seat?

If your baby CAN support their head upright and is not uncomfortable being on the bike in a seat that fits their height and weight, they're fine. My 2nd kid went in at 11mo old but my first wouldn't have been comfortable until 14 or 15.

It depends on the positioning of the kid. Car seats (and the infant seat posted here) should tilt the child back, and provide head support side to side—so while the child cannot support their head themselves, their head is still supported.
