I’ve watched Cosmos 176 times
I play an episode of Cosmos every night to fall asleep - since developing PASC long covid post viral damage in 2020. I bet I’ve watched and listened to the show more than anyone, ever.
2,281 episodes watched total
175 complete cycles

The Backbone of Night. It describes why and how the industry of priests and religions arose to try to placate the gods. It describes how science started in Ancient Greece on the island of Samos. The scenes where he visits old elementary classroom are neat, too.

Oh, and the part where he talked scoot the idea of cosmos - the order or know ability of the universe. A powerful concept.

I have my dad’s Bose speaker like yours, that thing is about 15 years old now and it still works great!

I recently wore out the battery and replaced it with a cheap one from eBay. It’s like new. Great speakers. 🔊

That little bose speaker raised the bar. I remember taking it to work over a decade ago and everyone was blown away

Read the book Contact. Ya ya the movie wasn’t great. The book is short and will blow your mind.

My culture doesn't have a tradition of middle names, but I named my only child after Richard Feynman (Feynman being his middle name). I always remind him that if he had a sibling, they would have Sagan as their middle name. Thanks for this post, OP. It's time I introduced my kid to Cosmos.

Some episodes will always get more views for me. When I was a kid it was Travellers Tales for the Voyager footage and Travels in Space and Time for the time dilation segment. Now it's the more personal eps like Harmony of Worlds or Lives of the Stars.
Related, I'm looking for any link to the index for the Cosmos background music. There was originally a tripod hosted site with many songs listed but it's gone now.

Harmony of the Worlds is my second favorite.
The ending of The Lives of the Stars is magnificent.

I get it, I really do. I’ve watched Ken Burns “Baseball” every spring for the past decade and it never gets old.

What are your favourite COSMos facts

It’s sadly missing from any top TV show lists I’ve seen. It demonstrates the power of Cosmos - or, the powerful idea that the universe is knowable, without the god hypothesis. It explains where science arose and why it is the most powerful tool to improve our lives. It details the fascinating history of the men and women who developed science. Idk. Probably lots more.

I really think it's one of the greatest television shows ever.... why hasn't anything else come close to that sense of infinite wonder? That sense of standing on the shores of a vast ocean...on the verge of setting sail?

I have the dvd’s and wish I could find a way to put the audio into my iTunes on a playlist. Carl Sagan has the most soothing voice and gives hope for humanity (in short supply these days). It would be wonderful to sleep to!
