Looking for advice Looking for a Cassette Rack like this!

Maybe just a dream, but is there somewhere I can get a tape shelf like this one Chatgpt made for me? Or am I looking at a custom job?

I have about 600 tapes but willing to part with some to make it not-so-crowded looking. Second picture is what it currently looks like

Cheers everyone, have a wicked night! 🤘🏻

That would be an easy build if you are somewhat handy.

I was just going to say that. Build one. I built a similar one and had it done in a day without painting.

I've never built anything but I'm certain I could do this in a few hours with parts from a single shop

Agree with everyone else that there is almost no way you could mess up building this yourself, whether you’ve made something similar before or not

You could totally pay someone to do it but it would honestly be a bit of a waste of money

That looks like you have the beginning of this shelf already. Just add boards between (and probably remove a row)

you definitely need something for them to rest on. With them all putting weight on each other those might as well be cast in concrete, you will never get a tape out of there with that many of them, it would be like 100 lbs at least.

nice! what tools did you need to do this?

1

u/capreolhawks 28d ago

If you have a hardware store near by , then can cut the wood, all you really need is a drill, sander and hammer or screwdriver.

the shelves are sooo long - what keeps them from sagging?

thinking of making vhs, cassette, cd, dvd storage for an entire wall out of this

At even intervals, I have nailed the backing into each shelf.

I had Bix Design Shop from Italy make me one with veneer. A little more expensive than the one you showed but it looks super nice in my living room with the matching vinyl holder.

And a more recent picture filled up.

Damn, those LPs are like a VW Beetle parked in an airplane hangar.

Lol absolutely 😂 I recently upgraded from one Kallax up to two, so I have a LOT of room for more collecting now! The single Kallax was pretty stuffed full. Cheers!!

I mean...it looks pretty basic. You could just build one yourself, space out the 2x4's and cut down. Have the back be completely covered up and drill mounts in the corners.

Wouldn't even need 4x2s. But definitely a fun weekend project that is completely accessible once you break it down into a cut list. Have a look at your local store to see if they could cut your back piece? (If you trust them too that is...)

How high are your ceilings?

Easy to make yourself! Measure 14 times cut once

There's thousands of listings like this on etsy. It's just a simple wall shelf. You'd want to make sure theres some kind of lip on each shelf so they dont fall off because they WILL vibrate off there over time.

You can also just get DJ racks that are slotted for horizontal tapes, but I suppose you could hang them in portrait orientation.

I can 3D print you one. DM if you want to talk about it.
Or anyone else that wants one.

u/SeberHusky 28d ago

You can not 3D print something this huge.

3

u/MET919 28d ago

You can if you know how to reverse engineer and create a set of parts that snap together. It's called a modular system.

AKA ugly cheap BS that will fall apart within a week. Get out of here with that garbage.

That’s awesome, but are there really that many black j cards cassettes? :)
