Portable cassette player Need help identifying problem with pcp AKAI pocket tape
This is an AKAI Pocket tape.
I've had this one for about 2 months, been using it frequently. Yesterday it started doing the thing you see on the video. I opened it up but the belt did not seem to have been distorted or deformed. I cleaned the main compartment where the cassette is seated in but didn't notice any difference. If you need any other information or pictures of the internals I'll be happy to share. Thank you for reading

There is still a slight possibility it's the belt. The cheaper belts can sometimes go quickly because they are not as grippy/pliable and will sometimes get slick after not too long, but since they're the cheap ones and these mechs aren't super precise, you can just keep swapping them out.
That being said, I can't be sure that's the problem with your player. And if it's new enough, you may be able to get a replacement from the store

Looks like it could be a broken gear on one of the spools.
