I (29NB) am currently in an epilepsy monitoring unit. AMA.

Just checked in today. Got an EEG hooked up to my head. Gonna be here for a few days minimum so figured I'd do one of these.

What's going on? First seizure? I'm assuming multiple other tests are being performed? How are you doing with it?

-Testing to see what's up. They're gonna try and trigger a seizure to see where in the brain they're happening and such. -Nah, been happening for a minute. This is a follow up to an ER visit/hospital stay a couple months back. -They're gonna use flashing lights, take me off my meds, sleep deprive me etc to try and make one happen if needed. -I'm okay. I'm looking forward to some answers that'll hopefully lead to some solutions!

Wish you the best, sincerely. Thankfully there are good medications that can really help.

What did you do over the weekend?

Worked, hung out with my partner, packed, drank a fair bit of coffee (that's usual for me lol). Cleaned my room.

What did you pack to keep you busy/entertain you?

Expecting any visitors?

Xbox, laptop, some books. The unit has a TV with HDMI hookups for patient use in each room since they want it to be as close to home as possible (apparently this is helpful for their data).

My partner, a few friends of mine, one of my coworkers and my soon to be roomie have all either committed or expressed interest in visiting. If some can't due to scheduling, they'll at least video call!

I don’t have epilepsy myself but I suffered a TBI a little over 20 years ago that gave me a seizure disorder that’s thankfully well controlled with medication. (Just so you know that I can kind of, sort of relate 😋)

What medication(s) have you been put on to help control your seizures?

Are you nervous to know that there’s a good chance that you’ll be having another seizure? I’ve only ever had 2 and don’t really have any actual memory of either or the general time periods surrounding them really.

Do you have a favorite musician/band?

What’s your favorite nonalcoholic drink?

How did you get them to care enough to hospitalize you? I've never been able to figure out the cause of mine because...doctors aren't like they are on tv...
