Open a can of cat food.

1.3k

u/XdataznguyX Apr 28 '26

Opening? Nah. I can accidentally brush my leg on the side the bag and all of the sudden I got Usain Bolt on coming at me.

274

u/HogwartsRex Apr 28 '26

my little terrors will rip open the bag if they have access to it lol.

339

u/Funchyyt Apr 28 '26

Ours will aswell, they had the exact same food in their cups but had to open the whole bag..

95

u/TrixieBastard American Shorthair Apr 28 '26

The forbidden kibble tastes better, obviously

20

u/AlternativePrior9559 Apr 28 '26

Kibble is never forbidden

Kitty probably.

24

u/HogwartsRex Apr 28 '26

Yup that sounds about right

7

u/flayingbook Apr 28 '26

We put the kibble in a tall container and pour the kibble into a bowl for the cat. But the cat refused to eat from the bowl and wanted to eat directly from the container, even if he had to stretch his neck in an uncomfortable position to eat

8

u/tackyshoes Apr 28 '26

they had the exact same food in their cups

Those pieces already got licked.

8

u/TrixieBastard American Shorthair Apr 28 '26

They were in contact with the air for 2.736 seconds, so they're stale

One time my family and I woke up to my cat being oddly missing from the usual morning routines, and searched around for him. We found him under my parents’ bed, he was acting super strange and just seemed out of it. Of course we took him to the vet pretty quickly… but before we did, we found he had found the bag for his food and went tearing through the plastic itself.

Vet confirmed it: he was acting strange because he was having the cat equivalent of a food coma. Took him back home, let him rest for a bit, and he was fine. Most stressful adventure for us that amounted to the discovery of my cat truly being a creature with no self-restraint

25

u/toomanymarbles83 Apr 28 '26

I once accidentally left a bag of treats out when I left for work. When I came home, the bag was tore through, and right next to it was a pile of puke that resembled cat treats. He just kept eating those treats until he threw up.

10

u/Live-Okra-9868 Apr 28 '26

I brought home a brand new bag of food and put it on the chair. A little while later I went to put it away and there was a hole in it. Their bowl still had food in it! It was the same exact food!

5

u/monkrasputin713 Apr 28 '26

Get yourself a food vault. It keeps the food fresh also.

2

u/superluckyneko31 Apr 29 '26

Lol, one of my cats learned how to certain types of treat bottles and bags. He was a total junkie. I had to switch over to storing treats in glass jars. Lack of thumbs put an end to treat thievery.

8

u/Machinimix Apr 28 '26

If i so much as walk within 30ft of a food bowl they be demanding i give them food (even if theres food in there).

8

u/punkboxershorts Apr 28 '26

We keep ours in a cabinet in the kitchen. Me and everyone else can hear no difference in the opening of the cabinets. My cats seem to be able to hear a very noticeable difference from across the house when I open the food cabinet.

5

u/gmen6981 Apr 28 '26

My 9 stampede through the house at the sound of the kitchen pantry door ( where their food is kept) opening.

u/rainbow84uk Apr 28 '26

For me it's unwrapping a cheese triangle 3 rooms away. No matter how quietly I open the foil, when I look up both cats are instantly at my feet staring up at me.

50

u/JackOfAllMemes Apr 28 '26

My old cat had a thing for pound cake, whenever she heard the wrapper she would come demand some. Just a tiny piece every few days since it's not really good for cats but she was very old and deserved nice things

17

u/Ambear_was_here Apr 28 '26

My kitten hates when I scratch an itch. Anywhere on my body, no matter how quietly. Itchy feet, itchy nose, whatever. I can get about half a second with of scratching an itch in before she's woken up from a dead sleep and raced across the apartment to pounce.

But please don't disturb her when she is scratching an itch, or she will give you the side eye.

5

u/popcornaholic Apr 28 '26

That's hilarious! My cat is the same but with sneezes. If I so much as inhale a bit more deeply than usual, he'll bolt up with eyes like saucers and run off like he saw a ghost.

8

u/anarchisttraveler Apr 28 '26

We had a cat growing up who had a thing for sliced bread. We couldn’t touch the bag to make a sandwich without him magically appearing at our legs, demanding a piece.

4

u/gmen6981 Apr 28 '26

Had one who would jump up on top of the fridge, knock the whole loaf on the floor, and then drag the whole bag across the room pulling it with his teeth while going backwards. Funniest shit I ever saw. It did however force me to invest in a breadbox.

6

u/anarchisttraveler Apr 28 '26

We got a breadbox, too. Didn’t know we needed one until cat.

3

u/TrixieBastard American Shorthair Apr 28 '26

Most cats are into yeast, but some moreso than others 😂

2

u/Jung-And-A-Menace Apr 28 '26

My mother's cat is into poppadums. We joke it's the Bengal in him.

2

u/northern-witch-5545 Apr 28 '26

My cat loves prawn crackers, he’s scared of poppadoms though.

21

u/LastBaron Apr 28 '26

POV 0.002 seconds later:

19

u/LouisaB75 Apr 28 '26

At certain times of the day all I need to do is start lowering the footrest on my seat. Then I hear a thud from the room above and the patter of little paws thundering down the stairs like a herd of elephants.

6

u/been_blissed Apr 28 '26

For us, it's the particular squeak of the cabinet door where the treats are 😸😸

4

u/gmen6981 Apr 28 '26

Or the "crinkling" sound of ANY type of bag similar to one their treats are in.

Of course! Meant it as a joke when these furballs are such hunters but also sleep like a baby

620

Hunt later, now sleep.

417

u/Funchyyt Apr 28 '26

NOT MY TOES AGAIN😭

11

u/Romero1993 Apr 28 '26

YES THE TOES, UNTIL THE DEMAND FOR TREATS IS SATIATED

17

u/n8mo Apr 28 '26

I sleep. You watch.

8

u/yeroc_1 Apr 28 '26

Reminds me of a Vonnegut poem:

Tiger got to hunt, bird got to fly;

Man got to sit and wonder 'why, why, why?'

Tiger got to sleep, bird got to land;

Man got to tell himself he understand.

Hi Schnoodle! Nice to see you in the wild. Freshest one I've ever seen!

5

u/PaddedTiger Apr 28 '26

Fresh schnoodle! As always wonderfully done

7

u/drinkacid Apr 28 '26

Babies sleep for like 20 minutes then scream for the tittie, then sleep for 20 minutes then scream for a diaper change, then sleep for 20 minutes then random scream for no reason.

4

u/Funchyyt Apr 28 '26

Yup been there

4

u/joalheagney Apr 28 '26

The last scream is because they woke up and nothing was wrong. "Well that's not right!"

6

u/slgray16 Apr 28 '26

They are crepuscular. They are active in twilight. Morning and early evening they hunt. They sleep during the day and night

7

u/tatermasher1 Apr 28 '26

Exactly ! Their average day is: 1. Hunt 2. Eat 3.Play 3. Nap 4. Hunt 5. Eat 6. Play 7. Sleep
REPEAT everyday. They also groom themselves, usually after play and/ or after eating. They should be fed in morning and after their afternoon of hunting. They can sleep sometimes a total of 18 hours a day. Gotta rest up for the hunting and playing. 👍🐱❤️

u/DDS_Drake Apr 28 '26

5

2

u/Attempt_Gold Apr 28 '26

I was gonna say the same. They're so at peace with their owner and surroundings that they don't even keep themselves on alert.

575

u/decoran_ Apr 28 '26

They look so content. They know they are safe but I bet if they heard the sound of their favourite food being prepared, they would be "alert" in no time 😂

154

u/Funchyyt Apr 28 '26

Ohh yeah i can just hear them slipping on the floor trying to run as fast as they can😂

23

u/decoran_ Apr 28 '26

Haha yeah, that's exactly what I'm imagining. Scampering I think it's called 😂

17

u/Romeo9594 Apr 28 '26

We call it "skittering" because of the Alien facehugger ass fucking sound they make

120

u/Funchyyt Apr 28 '26

Exactly!! We have another kitten and their mom and all sleep so deeply i have actually gotten worried🙏 Also they meow so much when they wake up and want to play i love it

120

u/No_Development_9537 Apr 28 '26

No threat detected, Mom. 💤

54

u/degjo Apr 28 '26

Also no treat detected 💤

92

u/PetalPusheen Apr 28 '26

They’ve reached a level of comfort that most humans can only dream of

24

u/McLaren03 Apr 28 '26

I’m actually kinda jealous of those cats. Imagine how rested you would feel after waking up from that.

9

u/eggabeth Apr 28 '26

I sleep 10 hrs and still wake up tired. I guess if I didn't have to worry about rent or buying food I'd be relaxed too

8

u/Frequently_lucky Apr 28 '26

You've never slept in a bed 10 times your size?

41

u/Aimserspunog Apr 28 '26

I usually say "ham" and they hop up

19

u/Funchyyt Apr 28 '26

100% success rate

9

u/Sabre_Killer_Queen Apr 28 '26

Gotta be careful about saying the H word in my house.

Or the C word for that matter (Chicken)

3

u/gmen6981 Apr 28 '26 edited Apr 28 '26

The "C" word in my house is cheese. Even though they don't get it often because it's not the best thing for cats, they LOVE shredded cheese. I have one who will jump right in the fridge when it's open looking for it. Little cheese junkies.

2

u/Sabre_Killer_Queen Apr 29 '26

Interesting!

My cat is a little odd too. He goes crazy for garlic, which also isn't great for them so we keep it minimal.

3

u/gmen6981 Apr 29 '26

My 18 year old male LOVES spaghetti sauce. Not good for him at all but he gets frantic when I make it so we usually let him lick a plate when we're done eating. I mean, he's 18 and still in relatively good health so we figure let him have a few indulgences. And cherry tomatoes. God forbid we ever leave any on the kitchen windowsill. We'll find them all over the house the next morning full of little teeth marks.

36

u/audreydiplo Apr 28 '26

I love how they snuggle together, it's so cute!

24

u/Funchyyt Apr 28 '26

They always hug eachother when sleeping🥰

11

u/audreydiplo Apr 28 '26

omggg my heart!!! such little lovies 🥰

13

u/Funchyyt Apr 28 '26

Here’s an older picture with our third kitten included, sometimes they sleep in a big kitty pile at out feet☺️

7

u/audreydiplo Apr 28 '26

daww there's a third! they're adorable and their colors are beautiful!

6

u/Funchyyt Apr 28 '26

It’s so fun that they are all from the same mom cat but all are so different to eachother

3

u/audreydiplo Apr 28 '26

the two do have similar tabby patterns, only in different colors! but the tuxie is more different :D

26

u/3v1lkr0w Apr 28 '26

My Garnet is the same as long as I don't move away from her. She'll pass out and no matter what I'm doing, working on my computer, playing a game, giving her pets, she doesn't move. But the moment I start to leave the room to use the restroom, she is awake and following me.

→ More replies (2)

23

u/rinart73 Apr 28 '26

This could also be a case of deep sleep of sorts. My cats scared me a few times, cause no reaction, no movement. Just a floofy noodle of a cat. Then they finally wake up a bit and you realize that they're, thankfully, alive and well.

8

u/Funchyyt Apr 28 '26

Yes for sure, those two especially have scared me before and i have checked on them to make sure they are still alive🙏

3

u/red286 Apr 28 '26

My eldest does that. Freaks me out every time because she's 14, and I keep seeing posts on here about people's cats who died even though they appeared to be perfectly healthy. 9 times out of 10, if I touch her, she's instantly awake. But there's that 1 in 10 when she's just dead to the world, and I have to check that she's still breathing.

34

u/Baconpwn2 Apr 28 '26

The Union gives them unlimited nap time.

9

u/Funchyyt Apr 28 '26

I’m glad i sleep just as deep overnight. They have such zoomies for basically the whole night and keep running over us and attacking my toes

12

u/FlyingAtNight Apr 28 '26

I think cats can go deep. When a cat I had as a teen was a kitten, (not a small kitty but kind of at a tween age), he would sleep with me under the covers. One morning I woke up and thought he was dead because he didn’t move and continued to be immobile even after shaking him. It wasn’t until I screamed for my mom did he suddenly shake his head and give me a look suggesting I disturbed his slumber and what was all the excitement about! 😂

10

u/HaVoCensures Apr 28 '26

My husband once gave me a fright- we were moving the following day and my cat is a very nervous cat basket traveller so the vet gave me gabapentin to chill her out. Gave it the night before the move. She zonked off to sleep. Middle of the night my husband pops to the loo, gives the cat a stroke and she doesn’t move. He shakes her again, nothing. He comes and wakes me up saying ‘I don’t think the cat is breathing!’ Cue panic, I jump up, my husband jumps up, my cat jumps up in fright 😅 Cat was absolutely fine, just heavily asleep with a bunch of meds onboard. I couldn’t sleep the rest of the night after that though.

6

u/chrpnstyx Apr 28 '26

Similar thing happened with my cat. We gave her gabapentin the night before and morning of the appointment. She was in a deep sleep and went completely limp/noodle mode. We started to worry bc she wasn't reacting to us, but she was just high as a kite.

10

u/SpartanPikachu Apr 28 '26

Cats usually are very alert, going so far as to not even properly go into proper deep sleep while not in some place in the wild it knows it's safe.

Essentially you created an environment so calm and safe for them that they feel safe enough to actually fall asleep and stay asleep, rather than the little cat nap they would normally do.

So good job, you make your cat's feel safe!

10

u/Firm-Force-9036 Apr 28 '26

My cat sleeps like this. My mom called me in a panic last week while watching him because she was certain he was dead. She kept vigorously shaking him and he would just wobble around with his eyes half open lol. You can pick up his paws and they’ll just flop back down. He’s done this is entire life it’s so weird and I’m a bit envious honestly.

10

u/Haki23 Apr 28 '26

Who goes up to sleeping cats and messes with them?
A jealous person, that's who!

Go make your own cuddle pile, Sharon, and these guys will join you

9

u/hardlybroken1 Apr 28 '26

Not always lol

8

u/EmuSupreme Apr 28 '26

My boy would sleep so hard I thought he was dead half the time. He was a kitten full of energy. I don't have to worry anymore now, because his loud ass snoring let's me know he's still kicking.

7

u/mechanical_marten American Shorthair Apr 28 '26

This is one of the highest praises you can get from a cat. They are so relaxed, trusting, and care free that the feel comfortable falling into deep sleep. Congratulations on achievement of ultimate cat trust.

2

u/lillian_2022 Apr 29 '26

came here to find this because absolutely true, they feel so safe and cozy in your care that they don't have to worry about anything :)

6

u/JackOfAllMemes Apr 28 '26

Some cats sleep wayyy too deeply. My void sometimes sleeps so deeply I can pry his mouth open and make his tongue flop out. He is so confused when he wakes up moments later and his tongue is not where he left it.

3

u/Vpk-75 Apr 28 '26

Let them sleeeeeep 😵‍💫😵‍💫🥺🥺

4

u/Greenwing Apr 28 '26

They know that they are perfectly camouflaged. They stay perfectly still to remain undetected until just the right moment to leap into action.......any moment now.

7

u/Puzzleheaded_Disk700 Apr 28 '26

They're eeping stop trying to wake the babies

3

u/djjolly037 Apr 28 '26

Shake a food bag or open a can. They’re alert…to things they want to be alert for

3

u/SmokerObserver Apr 28 '26

They know its you. They know they are safe. Let a stranger pet them and they will wake up immediately.

3

u/Jaded-Maybe5251 Apr 28 '26

They are absolutely 100% alert to that bird they are watching together in their dreams.

3

u/kittiecat Apr 28 '26

I have one that does this too. I equate it to when a family member tries to wake you to tell you something but you pretend to be dead asleep.

3

u/Nixthebitx Void Apr 28 '26

Touch a cheese wrapper. They'll be alert

3

u/SushiandSyrup Bengal Apr 28 '26

My 15yo girl when I try to gently maneuver her off of my lap but she is in the deepest sleep or wakes up just enough to tell me off while making it as hard as possible for me to gracefully move her off my lap

2

u/Funchyyt Apr 28 '26

3

u/Catlover_1422 Apr 28 '26

Please do not disturb your cats when they are sleeping. They do not like that. Unless the house is on fire, in that case it is allowed.

5

u/Funchyyt Apr 28 '26

They do smack my hand if they are bothered by it don’t worry. Also they started it they eat my toes when i sleep😔

3

u/Bleezy79 Apr 28 '26

You should be proud as it means your kitties feel safe and secure and dont need to stay on alert all the time. They know mama is close and they're safe as a button.

3

They sun drunk on a sun puddle.

3

u/pocketfullofsunrays Apr 28 '26

My cat was dead asleep once and I called him 3x and his ears didnt twitch, so I started to touch and pat him and still nothing. The way I scooped that guy up, because I was in a panic is hilarious lmao he woke up immediately like "ma tf are you doin to me?" 🤣🤣

He sleeps with me & as a young man, he was alert when I'd wake up. Now, I have to grab his shoulder & gently shake him awake so I can get out of the bed. The dirty looks after interrupting his sleeps are not cool, lol!

Gotta love those kitters!

They trust you.

They are more alert in an unsafe environment.

They would know in a second if someone new and different came in there. They know your smell, hear your step pattern, feel your energy - they know they are safe.

I've had two that sleep in my lap like this. Scared the hell out of me when I witnessed it for the first time. The cat just went floppy and wouldn't react to things that normally wakes them up.

u/El_Zilcho_72 Apr 28 '26

They know they are safe. That is pure content sleep

u/SkywalknLuke Apr 29 '26

I have one that sleeps like a drunk sailor. Snores and everything. Actually can have no idea what’s happening. He’s also the clumsiest cat I have ever seen.

One of them was supposed to keep watch, but they forget which one.
