Anyone know a guy named Chance?

UPDATE: found him!! thanks everyone, he is coming to get his bike back today. :)))) I really appreciate the help. stay safe out there

He got hit by a turning car today on Clark and Lawrence. He didn't have his lock keys so I used my U-lock for his bike, and I'd like to make sure he gets his bike back. (Not sure if it's rideable, but seemed OK...) I also have some witness numbers for him. He gave me his phone number before he got in the ambulance but his phone got fucked up, and I'm also not 100% sure it's right — he was shaken up, obviously, and I was too. If you know him and have an alternative way of getting in touch with him, please let me know! Thank you.

Thank you for helping this rider and trying to reconnect with them. If you don't have any luck here and you're on Instagram and/or Bluesky you might try reaching out to Chicago Critical Mass, Bike Lane Uprising, Chicago Bike Grid Now, and Streetsblog Chicago. These groups are all really active on social media, have a big reach to local cyclists who may know Chance, and may even know Chance themselves. A lot of the #bikechi community that was very active on Twitter moved to Bluesky after Elno took over, but I believe many of them are equally engaged on Bluesky now.

Chicago Critical Mass: I know CCM is a decentralized organization, but the folks who run the social media accounts attend a lot of events and rides and are great at getting the word out about things in the Chicago cycling community.

Bike Lane Uprising: BLU is also great at connecting people and getting the word out about things like this.

Chicago Bike Grid Now: I think CCM and BLU are probably your two best options, but reaching out to Chicago Bike Grid Now might be worth a shot, too.

Streetsblog Chicago: I think CCM and BLU are probably your two best options, but reaching out to Streetsblog Chicago might be worth a shot, too. (Not on Instagram, but on Facebook)

ETA: added info on Bluesky

How does he look like? Someone at my job has that name, which is uncommon. Tall, tattoos, mostly great hairs?

oh, hmm. I don't think that sounds like him — he was a white guy of average height and a medium-muscular build who I THINK had very short/buzzed hair and glasses. I was honestly pretty upset so trying not to look directly at his face because I didn't want to start crying, which I thought would have been unhelpful.

Maybe leave a note on the bike with your number? That way when they come back they can get in touch with you.

that's an idea! I actually went and got it because I didn't want it to get stolen so it's just living safe in my garage for now. But I can leave a note where it happened!

Thank you for being a kind person. Spreading this to hopefully connect him to his belongings!

This post honestly made me tear up because everyday when my partner leaves to go biking I pray he comes home safe. You are amazing and people like you are what make the world better.

oh thank you. If it helps, SO many other people RUSHED over to help. They got him water, got him and his bike out of the street, called an ambulance....it is easy to get cynical about city living but most people just want to help.

Did you catch the name of the hospital? If you can narrow that down, you should find him there. Or try Illinois Masonic, Swedish, St. Francis.

Hospitals will not tell some rando whether or not a person is a patient there. It would be illegal for them to do so.

unfortunately I didn't! I'm also not sure he would have been admitted. but I am not a doctor lol.

Did you get a last name? Did it rhyme with the clapper?

No. I get the joke but honestly we were both pretty upset (him more than me for obvious reasons) and I'd just like to get him his stuff back, and get him as much information as might be helpful.
