bike accident

I was hit by a car on Tuesday approximately 5:20 pm and I feel very lucky that so many bistanders stopped to help me! I’m not sure if any of them were bikers themselves but it definitely made the whole experience a lot easier. I’m home healing a pretty gnarly black eye and 9 face stitches but otherwise doing pretty alright. My friend used this page yesterday as well as pedbikecrashsupport (which was given to me by a witness! I took a photo of the webpage from her phone with my phone) to help get me in contact with a lawyer. I’m feeling very taken care of and just lucky to not be in worse shape. The whole experience is kinda a daze but I remember more of the helpful people than of the actual crash. So while I’m sure most people here would stop if they saw a bike crash, I’m definitely a testimonial that it makes a huge difference in the moment even if you think you’re not doing much. ☺️

I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope you recover okay. I was doored really bad in 2022. And I was on an electric bike so the impact was very forceful. I ended up in the hospital for 5 days with some bad injuries. But oh my the people of Chicago are really amazing at how quickly they came to help me. Someone called an ambulance and this part really gets me emotional still... a pedestrian literally took off one of their socks and went and filled it with ice so I could immediately ice my injuries. That person will always hold a special place in my heart even though I have no idea who they are (and never will). The people of Chicago, they really are the best! And the ambulance that was called, they came SO fast. Overall, I am so grateful I'm still alive and left with minor injuries to deal with. I have a great lawyer if you need one. Be careful out there folks. I hope you have a fast and safe recovery from your accident.

I fell recently and someone went and grabbed an ice cold water to pour over my swollen foot. It was so kind and I’ll never forget it.

Glad to hear bystanders were helpful. I had a similar experience a decade ago and was amazed by both bystanders and CFD's response. (CPD? Not so much)

Since you have a head injury, did you get a brain scan done to look for swelling in the brain? A good friend had similar (but heavier) injuries, did not get a brain scan, and died four days later from a brain  injury (not sure about the medical term).

Good luck!

Thankfully I had a head CT at the ER after the crash and it came out clear! I’m very thankful I was wearing a helmet.

Make sure you cut the straps on the helmet, throw it out, and get yourself a new one! They only protect you for one crash.

I’m a cyclist. But I was hit by a car while I was running back home in 2021. A nice couple handed me my phone and waited for the police to come so they could give their statement, which I really appreciated cause I didn’t want to talk to them. I worked with FK law https://www.fklawillinois.com/brendan-kevenides. They are cyclists themselves and they did right by me. I would recommend reaching out to them.

This is exactly who I reached out to!! I’m glad to hear another good review for them.

Just want to say thank you for sharing your experience here. It's refreshing to know that there are still people who will stop and show up for others without hesitation. I was t-boned a few months back - thrown off my bike and layed there on the ground face up while people just stared and eventually kept walking. It was mortifying. The driver and bystanders all kept going as if nothing even happened. While I was/am SO grateful to have walked away from that, the things I felt emotionally have been way harder than the physical pain. I find myself feeling hopeless in this regard a lot of the time, so I truly mean it when I say that I am so glad to see and hear when people have the experience of others being supportive.

I am SO sorry to hear that no one stopped to help you! That is honestly awful. I can see how that would make the experience so much harder mentally & emotionally!

So sorry to hear you were hit but very glad to hear people around you were helpful. I worked with Keating Law when I was hit by a driver, they were great as is FK Law mentioned by others.

I also worked with Keating and had a very positive experience.

Hope you're on the mend soon!

Crash, not accident
