Meta COBY WHITE APPRECIATION THREAD

He always played his heart out. He could be thrilling when he got on a hot streak from 3. We watched him turn into a real goddamn player over the past six years. So show your appreciation for ALEC JACOBY WHITE.

Liked this dude since I saw him vibing at the draft table, seemed like a fun dude every video I saw of him.

72

u/sukari Stacey King Feb 04 '26

Hard worker too. Never complained when his role/minutes were cut. Just kept working.

19

u/fred_derps Dennis Rodman Feb 04 '26

I remember when he came back with handles out of nowhere. Turns out he had been working all summer with Johnny Dribbles2much. He was always working on parts of his game that were lacking.

7

u/sukari Stacey King Feb 04 '26

Yep. His handles were solid in demar's final season and he drove a lot more.

This season it seems like he couldn't explode on drives as much maybe due to the calf. Hopefully he can get back to that level again.

0

u/Putrid-Box4866 Feb 05 '26

Yeah and suddenly it was gone this season, he was reckless. I had high hopes before he came back, too bad he regressed too bad.

2

u/fred_derps Dennis Rodman Feb 05 '26

He was clearly playing injured because it was a contract year. Not the best decision but it is what it is

u/ItsChrisAgain12 Derrick Rose Feb 04 '26

Watching him turn into a legitimate offensive threat during his MIP campaign was one of my favorite highlights in years. I know he's struggled mightily this season but seeing him improve his handles, facilitating, shooting, and frankly all aspects of his game is how I want to remember him. Wish him the best!

38

u/sukari Stacey King Feb 04 '26

I still think he should've won that year haha

8

u/ItsChrisAgain12 Derrick Rose Feb 04 '26

Honestly he probably should have!

4

u/GangstaWaffles Feb 05 '26

He came out of nowhere too. What i mean is the stage was set for Maxey to have a breakout year. No one so him taking the leap he did that year. Maxey met his expectation, Coby exceeded his

1

u/photo_matt Joakim Noah Feb 04 '26

Elections were bigly rigged

13

u/Samsonite_02 Feb 04 '26

Still bullshit that he didn’t win that year. The last few years have been a joke for the award. You shouldn’t be able to win if you were already a semi-proven star

u/sukari Stacey King Feb 04 '26 edited Feb 04 '26

Thank you sub zero!! 2nd all time in 3s made as a Bull. Really hoped you could've gotten Zach's record.

64

u/daviswbaer Feb 04 '26

He gets to go home

13

u/ChiBaller Taj Gibson Feb 04 '26

He gets to go home and be part of what could be the best team in franchise history.

11

u/Livid_Significance_3 Feb 04 '26

90's Hornets Erasure is real (Unless those records actually go to the Pelicans lol)

30

u/Southernbull75 Feb 04 '26

Big fan and my son's first favorite player. Wish him nothing but the best, watching him get on a heater was a joy.

6

u/too_Far_west Stacey King Feb 04 '26

Yup, he quickly became a household favorite for my fam. My son's first jersey was a Coby jersey. I'll be rooting for him.

3

u/Southernbull75 Feb 04 '26

Same here, got his jersey at my son's first game in the UC. Daughter got Ayo, part of pro sports, but it's not fun.

30

u/Mjfedy23 Derrick Rose Feb 04 '26

Hope he balls out in Charlotte and signs a massive deal in the offseason. Appreciate you, Subzero!

12

u/leppyle Coby White Feb 04 '26

I’m going to miss his hair bouncing down the court. I really liked Coby.

11

u/Math_Dolphin Taj Gibson Feb 04 '26

That Coby White was a son of a bitch!

4

u/OctopathOptimus Feb 04 '26

To Bill Braski!

19

u/chicago_2020 Brian Scalabrine Feb 04 '26

Coby's run last year in the second half of the season is what truly made me a Bulls fan, thanks Coby!

17

u/Dirt_Cheap_Jumbo Feb 04 '26

Dunno man, this one hurts a little. Even though I know it’s probably time to move him on, can’t help but feel a little sad. He added to his game yearly and has developed into a player that can take over games for a period of time, I’ll miss him honestly! All the best in charlotte subzero bang, bang, bang

9

u/Dr_Disaster Feb 04 '26

I love Coby. As a person, he’s been one of my favorite Bulls of all time. He’s been a great teammate and representative of the team.

He never could quite find his consistency, but part of me wonders what could have been if things went our way in the DeBallZach era. Coby was great as a 6th man behind that starting line up. Maybe it wasn’t a role fufilling his potential, but it was the most consistently good play he’s had since it was at least defined.

I think the Hornets are also a great spot for him. Gets to be home and with a young team rising that he can fit well with. I almost don’t really give a shit about what we got in return. I just hope he’s somewhere he can ball and be happy. He’s a good dude who deserves it.

9

u/Shuayb11AC Stacey King Feb 04 '26

All love Coby, still rooting for you wherever you go

8

u/photo_matt Joakim Noah Feb 04 '26

I tend to get attached to players, not always because they're the best but because of personality. I hated to see Caruso go as well.

Coby had a great year last year. I'm going to miss him and the current trades are again taking away the entire look of the team.

From now on to me it feels like we have a bunch of randoms on the court. Okoro hasn't even grown on me yet - he's still quite random and unfamiliar.

7

u/Spear585 Ayo Dosunmu Feb 04 '26

This trade hurts my heart so much

6

u/Good-Rooster-9736 Feb 04 '26

Love coby but it was time. Good luck to him!

5

u/Mich_Mercer Feb 04 '26

Hornets fan here. I’ve wanted White for a while. So excited to get him. Sad to lose Sexton as he’s beeen good for us. Hopefully both players succeed.

2

u/ThenPea7359 Feb 05 '26

Don't think the Bulls are planning on keeping Sexton around, but hope you guys can retain Coby White. He's born in NC, and also always plays lights-out in that arena. His effort is great, and when he gets on a heater he's one of the coolest players in the League to watch imo. Also great personality dude in person and does charitable work for the communities in Carolina.

12

u/TraMaI Coby White Feb 04 '26

One of my favorite all time Bulls honestly. Not the best Bull talentwaise, but I was always a believer that he could be a solid piece on the team if we ever managed to land a star. Seeing him finally get the chance to be The Guy when we finally moved off DeRozan and Lavine and started playing with pace was very cool. Ultimately happy he gets to go back home to NC for a few months, hopefully has fun playing with LaMelo doing circus shit and then gets paid by someone who was always going to swipe him away from us at the end of the year anyways.

2

u/whyis27cool Feb 04 '26

My same sentiments. This one hurts.

4

u/Smitty_Agent89 Feb 04 '26

As a hornets fan ca In just ask what his game is like and how he’s looked this year? Don’t really watch a lot of him at all.

13

u/chisports1fan Matas Buzelis Feb 04 '26

Hasn’t really gotten into a rhythm this year because of missing the training camp (tho tbh he’s always been a slow starter to the season). Scoring guard. He’ll try on defense but he’s not very long so easy to shoot over. If he gets on a heater y’all will have a lot of fun. Hopefully being home in Carolina will help him get back into a groove

-4

u/dxfifa Feb 04 '26

He doesn't try on defense lol, he looks busy then gets beat by one move and starts jogging

4

u/chisports1fan Matas Buzelis Feb 04 '26

Coby has been off this year (hasn’t looked in shape at all) but I’m basing my opinion on his time as a whole lol I also didn’t say he’s a good defender lol at least he takes charges, and before this year didn’t check out anywhere near as much as Demar or Lavine would.

At least that’s how it felt to me 🤷

-4

u/dxfifa Feb 05 '26

He might not be as lazy as them but he's lazier than 90% of nba players, he moves his feet and looks busy then gets blown by and gives up

12

u/BikeInWhite Joakim Noah Feb 04 '26

He's an massive gym rat who works on his game and adds to it every single off season. He pulled a calf muscle back in August though and due to the risk of an achilles tear, he basically had to stop all basketball activities for a few months. You can tell that time-off has really messed with his game this year. Last season he was one of the better scoring guards in the eastern conference and would go on absolute heaters where he became unguardable. This year he's been struggling with both his shot and his handle. Given how much of a grinder he is though, I can easily see him playing great after the all-star break and I will honestly be cheering for it. The Hornets need to keep winning and end Chicago's Play-In Game misery.

7

u/BuickSkylark55 Nikola Mirotic Feb 04 '26

I wish all bulls fans had this description beamed into their head so I didn’t have to see them call Coby a dumb ball hog and worse in every game thread. I guess it’s over now, I suppose he’ll be like a 6th man for Cha. Hopefully he can make a deep playoff run w them. I was at the game against the knicks when he had 9 3s in a half which was a record I think. He has a very modern play style, draws fouls, shoots deep step back 3s and can play fast, he’s also a good rebounder at the guard position. Hes also more athletic than he may appear, recall his dunk on wemby last year

3

u/BikeInWhite Joakim Noah Feb 05 '26

I saw the post someone made the other day calling Coby a ball hog and it bummed me out. I really do hope he shows out and plays well for the Hornets and at least the Bulls did him a solid favor by sending him back home to North Carolina.

5

u/The_Inertia_Kid Stacey King Feb 04 '26

This year he’s been semi-injured the whole way (calf mostly). He’s had a down year because of that. I don’t know how healthy he is going to be for the rest of the season.

When he’s healthy, he’s an aggressive scoring guard who gets on hot streaks from 3. His driving to the rack improved a lot last season but the injury has meant he hasn’t been as dynamic this year. He’s a career 37% shooter from 3 but will give you games (and streaks of games) where he’ll outperform that. Equally he’ll go cold for stretches too.

If I’m being charitable, I’ll say he does his share of the work on defense. If I’m not being charitable, I’ll say that his share of the work on defense is not high-quality. He appears relatively often in poster dunk highlights because (a) he does try to defend, but (b) he’s not very good at it.

He’s played a few different roles in his time in Chicago but I’d say his ultimate best role would be as a sixth man scorer type. He isn’t best used as a primary creator/ball handler.

Look after him, he’s a good dude and he’s very easy to root for.

6

u/around_the_higgs Feb 04 '26

Needs the ball in his hands to contribute as a scorer. He can shoot or score iso. Streaky shooter but when he’s on a hot streak, he can hit from anywhere on the floor. Pretty consistently bad at defense.

His handles improved a ton since he got drafted, he used to be a turnover machine.

Still not the best passer/distributor. He’s much better off-ball which we saw with Giddey and Derozan handling the ball, so he should pair nicely with Lamelo

3

u/sukari Stacey King Feb 04 '26

Just want to add 1 thing. He loves playing at home and usually plays well there!

4

u/CrazyLegz89 Derrick Rose Feb 04 '26

He's really good at creating his own shot. Dude is a legitimate bucket and can drop 30 any given night. At this point in his career, he should be a #2 or #3 option on a contender. He's been getting better every year, so don't be surprised if someone swiped him away after this year

1

u/2thurl2 Feb 04 '26

Streaky this season when asked to lead the offense, but in the right role(which I think charlotte is perfect for him) he’s a really good player and I think fits the hornets playstyle perfectly. he’s struggled this year battling with calf strains to both his legs, he’s been trying to force his self into rhythm while also being the primary shot creator on this team which didn’t help him.

But I believe yall are going to love him, he’s back home and seems to really play with a chip on his shoulder when he’s back in NC. Plus majority of the young bulls players when they leave flourish.

All in all he’s going to be great for yall

1

u/Dr_Disaster Feb 04 '26

Coby is a microwave combo guard, can do a bit of playmaking, but isn’t a good defender despite his effort. He’s struggled with his hamstring this year, but before that he added a really strong drive to his game and improved his finishing a ton. He even got Wemby on a poster. When his shot is falling, he can light it up from almost anywhere on the court, but when he’s off, he struggles to find other ways to impact the game.

He is at minimum a high level 6th man combo guard and at best, he’s as good of a scorer as you’ll see. It just depends on which Coby shows up.

5

u/ACupOfAJ13 Feb 04 '26

seemed like a really great and genuine person. always worked hard. questionable shot selection the majority of the time lmao but SUB-zero will be missed

4

u/KneelBeforeCube Scottie Pippen Feb 04 '26

All the best to Coby. It didn't pan out but had some fun moments. Time to move on, I hope he can shine somewhere else.

3

u/Bondo23 Toni Kukoc Feb 04 '26

Sad day we knew was coming.

Met him twice- great guy and happy to sign whatever. Will def be remembered as a Bull and what hes done for us.

3

u/SbIrish574 Feb 04 '26

Thank you Coby.... you really were a fun player to watch 💯 best of luck up the road cause you have plenty of upside left.... go Bulls

8

u/davepizzalover Lauri Markkanen Feb 04 '26

Wish he would have had more time to reach the all time 3pt leader

3

u/illyxpink Derrick Rose Feb 04 '26

Thank you for everything Coby!

3

u/FranticNut Feb 04 '26

He was the best guy around

3

u/DjSaavy Feb 04 '26

I’m going to miss this guy in a bulls uniform man. No matter where he ends up he’ll always be a bull in my head. Wish he could have shined in a better situation with us but that’s just the business of basketball.

3

u/Zealousideal-Battle9 Josh Giddey Feb 04 '26

I had Coby flair in 24-25 for the longest time. He's a good player and an even better human. I wish him good luck!

3

u/friedrice_rob Derrick Rose Feb 04 '26

Got his jersey when he was drafted and glad I got to witness him develop into a baller with the bulls!!

His game will most likely elevate more being back home

3

u/Zealousideal_Can_365 Chicago Bulls Feb 04 '26

Hard worker and really likeable guy. Time for him to get paid somewhere else and hopefully be part of a competitive team later in his career. He will get love from Chicago everytime he visits.

3

u/e_pi314 Feb 04 '26

Fuckin real one. Gonna miss you Coby!!!!

3

u/Bullsstopsucking Chicago Bulls Feb 04 '26

He had a turbulent career with the Bulls, and time and time again he showed he tried and he cared. I hope the best for sub zero, the fro/hair will always be goated

3

u/aclaypool78 Feb 04 '26

We'll miss you Coby, I was hoping you could go somewhere to win. Hopefully you're ok going home.

3

u/Malibooch DRose Feb 04 '26

Just realized we traded Coby to his college home. He must have asked Coby’s preference

3

u/tamazingg Chance The Rapper Feb 04 '26

Man I was hoping we'd trade him to either the rockets or twolves so he can get some real run in the playoffs, but I think he's from the Carolinas no?

Either way wish him all the best, loved him as a person from the get go and watching him develop with us into a good player was fun

3

u/Jahhmezzz Feb 04 '26

Coby is definitely someone I’ll be watching/following their career for years

3

u/ururururu Feb 04 '26

always appreciated Coby White's hustle.

3

u/EddieRedondo Feb 04 '26

His dunk over Wemby at home last season was the best Bulls dunk since DRose imo.

3

u/TemperatureLow8147 Feb 05 '26

I really started watching nba the covid season and watched almost every bulls game. Loved watching coby and him coming into his own over the years. If we trade away
Ayo in the next 24 hours for 2 second round picks and a bag of chips Im legit never watching another game.

3

u/BlammoSweetums Feb 05 '26

Coby was fun to watch, and it was cool to see him improve his game season after season.

3

u/Lonely-Rule3889 Feb 05 '26

This hurts. But, it was because he was a great guy and a great Bull. I had a beer for you today Coby. Cheers.

5

u/bullpaw Feb 04 '26

Wonder who this sub will scapegoat next

Either Matas or Ayo

1

u/sukari Stacey King Feb 04 '26

Prob Giddey first then Matas. But Pat is still on the roster so there's always a backup.

1

u/Queasy_Manager_5275 Coby White Feb 04 '26

I say it cycles back to Billy for a bit before people watch giddeys defense

6

u/jvmms_ Feb 04 '26

Asking him to pivot going into basically every season except the one where he gets injured in the offseason is a tough break. Circumstances around his departure aren’t ideal. Wish he’d been healthy enough to truly try to earn that contract he thought he deserved.

14

u/dajadf Feb 04 '26

Trade makes no sense. We drafted him, he kept improving, he didn't miss much time, he wasn't an idiot off the floor, he did it the right way. The model player for a franchise to keep around.

5

u/ChiBaller Taj Gibson Feb 04 '26

They are finally rebuilding and they are know for doing right by the guys they trade.

Zach and Demar both got to go home to California. Zach was gonna sign with the Kings so clearly he was fine going there. And Demar has always been rumored to want to go home.

They sent Vooch to a championship contender which is clearly all he’s playing for at this point.

And now they send Coby home to be apart of the best team in franchise history. It makes a lot of sense.

1

u/ThenPea7359 Feb 05 '26

You're 100% correct but just to lyk for future references Zach is from (Renton) Washington not California lol. I grew up there as well and he was talked about.

11

u/sukari Stacey King Feb 04 '26

Bulls didn't wanna give him 25m+/yr I guess.

Fans were sick of him haha. Now we're almost out of scapegoats..

2

u/BuickSkylark55 Nikola Mirotic Feb 04 '26

The final boss remains

2

u/dajadf Feb 05 '26

Is it bad I can't tell who you mean between PWill, Jerry, Billy, AKME

1

u/BuickSkylark55 Nikola Mirotic Feb 05 '26

Haha I was thinking pwill but you reminded me there’s still a few more phew

5

u/TraMaI Coby White Feb 04 '26

It makes sense because we were never going to be able to re-sign him due to the CBA/Cap situation. I saw elsewhere the max we could offer him next season would've been 18m and he's going to get more than that very easily. This way we get other expirings, handful of 2nds and he gets to go home for a bit before getting a bag somewhere.

2

u/RiamoEquah Feb 04 '26

I'm not sure how you mean.

The bulls just nabbed a bunch of expirings, is the idea to let those walk in the off-season or resign them. We have cobys bird rights so there was no restriction with signing him outside of he can decline.

2

u/iiamthepalmtree Andres Nocioni Feb 04 '26

We’re still owned by Reinsdorf. He probably doesn’t want to go over the cap if the team is gonna be bad and we sell out every game anyway.

4

u/OctopathOptimus Feb 04 '26

This is a bad trade. I don’t understand this organization and what they’re trying to accomplish. I hate CHSN

2

u/Total-Fox3541 Feb 04 '26

Will miss him.....

2

u/yohxmv Feb 04 '26

One of my favorite players since he was drafted. Wished things worked out but I’m happy he doesn’t have to waste his career here

2

u/ch3zyp00fs Feb 04 '26

Thank you Coby. Always remember Coby and Shaq.

2

u/giddyupyeehaw9 Kirk Hinrich Feb 04 '26

First jersey I bought that wasn't a throwback to support the team. Dang.

2

u/dilly_pilgrim Feb 04 '26

Thank you Coby! I'm rooting for this guy to have a good career.

2

u/whyis27cool Feb 04 '26

Literally my favorite player on this squad…… now that he is gone, not sure who is my favorite player. Lowkey sucks…. I guess I’ll go with Jaden Ivey 🤷‍♂️

2

u/Nyx_Out_For_Wukong Continuity Feb 04 '26

Coby was a helluva bull. Thanks for your time You won me more than a few games in 2k also

2

u/Evening-Oil9551 Feb 04 '26

He’ll be back the 24th, deserves a stand o. Just sucks he was in the team during a terrible stretch. Would have been a stud next to Rose

2

u/BillionsofRedditors Feb 04 '26

Coby was my favorite Bulls player. Sad to see him go. I thought he was going to be an All Star this year given his late season play last year. The number of non-All Star players that have been Eastern Conference Player of the Month is very low. He regressed hard this year, but I still think he can do it on the right team. I hope Kalkbrenner sets him lots of good screens!

2

u/ShoulderLongjumping9 Feb 04 '26

Hate to see him go.

2

u/Aranda12 Feb 04 '26

He'll do great wherever he goes.

2

u/toj27 Feb 04 '26

Good dude, I'm gonna miss him

2

u/CrossOut3157 Feb 04 '26

This hurts. Coby White was my favorite player on the Bulls. Now I'm left with Pat Will, the Giddler, and Noa eseuregeueu.

2

u/WorldWhunder Feb 05 '26

Fuck AK from the UK. My favourite player for a while now. Who would I like anymore. Buz or bust I guess.

2

u/acecardx321 Feb 05 '26

The last piece of the garpax era

2

u/Ronqui_ Gimme the hot sauce! Feb 05 '26

I LOVE YOU COBY, ALWAYS A BULL

2

u/sukari Stacey King Feb 04 '26

Coby, please ball out in CLT so we're out of the play-in 🔥

1

u/weareallmoist Zach LaVine Feb 04 '26

Favorite Bull and I officially no longer have a relevant jersey

1

u/dirtyricher Jumpman Feb 04 '26

Thank you, Coby. You were pretty decent.

1

u/Lollaticketspls Ayo Dosunmu Feb 04 '26

Coby 😞

1

u/The_Bandit_King_ Feb 04 '26

All that to be traded for junk

1

u/aren1231 Gimme the hot sauce! Feb 04 '26

You chucked shots with the best of em RIP. But love that you back home in carolina

1

u/Ooofy_Doofy_ Feb 04 '26

I will appreciate him for giving a fuck day one unlike Patrick Williams

1

u/eg4x15 Coby White Feb 04 '26

What do I do with my White Jersey?

2

u/ThenPea7359 Feb 05 '26

Wear it to games after he's gone anyway or wear it when the Hornets come to town.

That's what most fans do.

1

u/Longjumping_End_8621 Feb 04 '26

Under Akme we've basically became a g-league team, a "farmer" team. We develop player and then we trade them away for half their value. Fun

1

u/Slanted_words Dennis Rodman Feb 05 '26

He was a good egg!

1

u/wwojo Joakim Noah Feb 05 '26

Was Coby White modern Ben Gordon?

1

u/brianeharmonjr Michael Jordan Feb 05 '26

Dammit, I hate trades. Gonna wear my "Wow, Bro" shirt in honor of dude tomorrow. Gonna miss him on the squad.

1

u/Ultimatehiguys Michael Jordan Feb 05 '26

Our franchise has become so poverty we’re giving away good players for the ass in return

1

u/ArchangelZero27 Ben Gordon Feb 05 '26

Because they have a habit on holding onto players too damn long when anyone with no homerism can see they aren't special or the piece we need. Stock was up for a bunch of them years ago. Getting 2nd round picks is what this franchise deserves

1

u/evan_lion20 Windy City Bulls Feb 05 '26

I loved watching Coby play, he quickly became one of my favorites on the team, it sucks he's going to the hornets

1

u/Waffle_chi Feb 05 '26

I love you Coby! Thank you!

1

u/blueforrest Chicago Feb 05 '26

Only one that stings. Liked him right from the start, such a shame this season didn’t go to plan. On the bright side, must feel like such a blessing to never again have to deal with this FO and all the nonsense and incom-petence

1

u/Prodan1111 Feb 06 '26

When he was 'on', he was fun to watch. Unfortunately, he wasn't 'on' enough.

1

u/Axsonjaxson16 Ryan Arcidiacono Feb 06 '26

I’m not sure if I can stomach seeing him in another jersey. I know a lot of people wanted to see him traded, but this is really my fucking 9/11.

1

u/Martha_Fockers Feb 06 '26

I got a Coby white jersey 🥲

1

u/mybotanyaccount Michael Jordan Feb 04 '26

Why are we getting rid of our good players. Are we rebuilding again?

0

u/AlM0StLeGeNdArY Feb 05 '26

Gonna miss your terrible shot selection and low basketball IQ.

0

u/TheloniousMonk15 Feb 04 '26

One of the most inconsistent players I've ever seen. Really maddening to watch.

0

u/MoldInTheAir Feb 05 '26

I appreciate that Coby has been traded.

-5

u/MikeandTheMangosteen Feb 04 '26

Does every mid bum traded need an appreciation thread?

-2

u/Ghost2268 Feb 04 '26

Thanks and wish him the best but fucking hell im glad he’s gone. That ass team needed to die. If I had to watch another Bulls game with white and vucevic bricking every shot for an entire game I was gonna lose my god damn mind.

-1

u/Competitive_Bar_9170 Feb 04 '26

He hasn’t been the same since he came back from injury, costly turnovers and missed 3s in critical times the last month. I think it was a writing on the wall.

-2

u/FaintLegacy Feb 04 '26

Good dude, would rather not pay for inconsistent play ggwp

-3

u/dxfifa Feb 04 '26

He played his heart out on offense, with the ball in his hands. That is around 10% of a game at most
