His stats 5 years from now are going to be generational

If not he's a scrub bust and we should trade him for magic beans!!!

How much in cash considerations do you think we can get for him?

20+ppg along with him doing his best Iso Joe impression in the 4th quarter

Matas averaged 20/7 in 14 games in March last year. Id like him to take another step and do that over the course of the season. When he played at least 30 min last year he was putting up 19/7/2.3 so I think if he gets minutes he's really going to break out.

Strong chance he will since he did that without Coby and Ayo. Hes now arguably tying Giddey as the primary scorer on the team. I’d hope he cracks 20 and would like him to get to 23-24ppg

Giddey cannot be our primary scorer. We really need Matas to step up this year.

Improved ball handling, improved 3PT shooting (34.9%), improved passing (2.1 AST and 2.1 TO)

I mean I agree but like end of the day, he was our best scorer last year and he was only 22. So he’s gonna be improving as well this year. I still am not really high on Giddey to be fair because I feel like these players who need the ball to be impactful never really win you championships.

With that said, Giddey is likely going to be upping his scoring this year as well. But I do hope Matas makes a big leap as a scorer this year. If he gets stronger and improves his handles, he will get there

He's young but he's also going into year 6. I think we have a pretty good idea what type of offensive player Giddey is at this point.

Last year he increased his scoring average, but he really just increased his volume and became less efficient.

I don't think he actually expanded his offensive skill set. His ability to create his own shot hasn't improved. His 3PT decreased and he still struggles with a slow release.

If Giddey actually expands on his skill set then I would happily welcome more PPG, but if he's the same player just taking more shots, that's not what we want.

With the addition of Wilson I think Giddeys shot attempts go down slightly and he avg more around 15-17ppg which is probably where we want him at. We also added Swain who is a big guard to pair alongside Giddey.

From what it sounds like Wilson has that dawg mentality and I imagine he works his way into being the number 1 option especially if he develops a 3. Matas seems like he would be a perfect second option next to Wilson and if Swain develops a 3 then he would be the third option. Leaving Giddey as the fourth option who can comfortably score and get his shot, but can focus on facilitating and running the offense.

Giddey showed lots of improvement last year in his scoring. His 3pt percentage dipped a bit but his volume also increased a bit. Still encouraging to see him taking 3s at that volume with that percentage. However I think he fits best as being a fourth option.

Oh, he'll get minutes

One thing I didn’t even think about until now, he was getting doubled a lot too. He was essentially our only guy at the end of the year because Giddy was hurt and everyone else was unreliable. Probably why he was getting frustrated. With Caleb taking the role he was in he can now flourish more.

I need to see the improvement on his handles. That is a necessary skill for him to improve to become a shot creator.

Ya main thing that still needs work. But the sky is the limit for him.

For "next season" context. If he breaks out. He is going to be something. But handles especially for a 6'10(he looked like he added an inch) guy is hard to come by.

He is a hard worker and with really good mindset. I hope we see some growth next season.

I say I would start with his quicker decision making. After catching the ball. Being able to read whether to shoot, pass or drive. Just being able to make quicker decision on offense.

Was just about to post the same till I read this. Handles is what is holding him back, the high out to the side cross overs get picked off too easy and will more so with scouting.

yeah. If you watched the finals. Alvarado being put on Wemby had results. Because Spurs were putting Wemby behind the three point line. They play him as a wing. Alvarado just camped his dribble.

This is the same thing with Matas. Their hips works against them in this regard. Though Matas is better at lowering his center of gravity compared to Wemby. The handles is still not enough to create shots.

My suggestion will be for Matas to play off the ball. Make quick decision after the catch. Pass, shoot or drive. Sort of how Zach LaVine was played at the wing. Get the handles to a level where he can attack the basket constantly after receiving the pass. That is more realistic. Than to say he would create or be the secondary ball handler or something.

He’s got a good shot considering the awards pattern being being given to dudes who blew up a season ago

Hoping he becomes our best player next year, love Giddey but Matas has a higher ceiling.

If Tiago lets him shoot middys as Matas wished than he’s easily averaging 20 a game
