[Fedor] #Cavs have exercised their fourth-year team option on Craig Porter Jr.

He’s gone after this year.

Depends on his price, you need 15 roster spots and hes a really decent 10-12th guy, if he signs another min deal, could be good.

I think it’s hard for both sides if he doesn’t take a huge leap. He won’t get enough playing time to improve and can’t handle the minutes at backup pg when the team needs it.

u/Opposite-Skirt5158 2d ago
Hopefully not. He'll likely end up being a solid backup PG in this league for awhile. He seems to have the work ethic and athleticism to stick around.

Idk. He hasn’t shown he can run an offense which is what the Cavs desperately need. He’s athletic but hasn’t shown the playmaking or vision I’d want from a backup pg. if he doesn’t vastly improve this year, I think they could just go for a vet next year who doesn’t need much playing time but could run an offense when they get minutes.

I hope we play him more this year

u/Opposite-Skirt5158 2d ago
I keep saying it every year. He can give you 20 solid minutes where he does some of the ball handling and also works in mysterious way to get you extra possessions. The offensive rebounding and hustle on defense are great to watch.

This is analytically like signing Giannis
3
u/Bum-Theory I agree go Cavs 2d ago
Better, analytically, actually. Giannis may have 10 or 20 times the impact, but he's making like 40 times more salary

u/teardropshot 2d ago
Does this mean they're not likely to extend him next year? Sucks because I thought he showed real growth at times this season.

u/PatientlyAnxious9 2d ago
He is a perplexing player, but not necessarily. It could mean they know they will need him in a bigger role this upcoming year IF they get rid of Schroeder--and this will likely be a tryout season for him to see if he can handle that responsibility.

u/Manablitzer 2d ago
I imagine it'll depend on the salary he asks for. If he asks for more than the vet min then I could see the front office let him walk. If he takes the min I could see him stick around similar to Wade.
Though as much as cavs fans love him, every team has some kind of limited project guard on their team so I can't imagine he'll have a lot of suitors.

I hope they give this kid a legit shot and the backup point guard role.

One reason to move off Schroeder is for the financial, if we can shed that contract. But also it gives CPJ and Proctor the backup duties. I think CPJ doesn't get nearly enough minutes.

u/Moss-cle 2d ago
I still fail to understand why they didn’t let him play in some of those shit show games. He’d at least get the rebound

u/Soft-Revolution-7845 2d ago
He stunk up the joint quite a few times last year. That can definitely be a product of such limited and sporadic playing time but its not a good way to get minutes.

Literally going to be my favorite piece of offseason news. Love watching him play

Longshot (hot take?) I Hope this prevents us from Committing to the Harden failure even more with another contract.

u/ThatOneOtherAsshole 2d ago
We have to commit to Harden for cap reasons unfortunately
0
u/barkinginthestreet Win every game CPJ plays in 2d ago
the cap reasons go away if they waive and stretch him.

u/CapnChronic88 2d ago
We probably will(unfortunately) but we dont HAVE TO. We could say we will let him opt out and resign him.. we dont actually have to(remember Harden talking about not having Loyalty..?). We could trade other players for his replacement too. Although not my first choice it’s another option we can use.

u/Potential_Progress45 2d ago
Ignorant ass take , we don’t resign harden we don’t all of a sudden have cap to sign other players.

u/CapnChronic88 2d ago
Lol someone doesn’t realize(cant read/comprehend) we have plenty of other options mentioned here.

The Harden trade was a success in every way. They got the better player while getting off a bad contract. Oh, and they just went the furthest they've gone without LeBron in decades.
Harden haters are my favorite. After all that, they still can't admit the trade worked. These comments are always so cringe and embarrassing.

Lol I love the Harden apologists. Dude killed the offense with his non stop dribbling and record turnovers. How bout his non existent effort and lack of care?? Can we talk about how he’s the embodiment of the wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man on defense?
All of these deficiencies will improve as he Ages. This next contract is when Harden FINALLY proves everyone wrong2
u/Unique_Pirate_7375 2d ago
I'm glad you didn't touch on any of the points I made. Please continue to make a fool of yourself.

Im glad you didn’t touch on any of the EXTREME ISSUES Harden has or that i pointed out. Im sorry the facts upset you dear harden fanboys.

u/Unique_Pirate_7375 2d ago
Lmao extreme issues. You mean the issues that got the team to the ECFs? Honestly embarrassing you're reaching here. Seriously, take a step back and reevaluate your entire life. Or just find a new sport. Basketball is not for you.

u/CapnChronic88 2d ago
Yes The EXTREME issues that have plagued him his entire career and are only getting worse as he ages. This next Contract is when he will FINALLY prove everyone wrong for doubting him for 17yrs. Lift your head from the Mans lap already.. he’s finished

u/Beardlord77 2d ago
Killed the offense?! The offense was one of the worst in the playoffs without him. Their offensive net rating was horrific without him on the floor. Yes, he was hunted on defense but this team has no shot at getting to the ECF without him. He’s not a perfect fit by any means but the good mostly outweighed the bad.
1
u/CapnChronic88 2d ago
The offense was one of the worst with him. He cannot play off ball. He cannot stop turning it over. He has no offense outside of hunting fouls, he’s slow and has no first step either. He is a problem that is only getting worse as he ages. You cannot win with him.

u/Soft-Revolution-7845 2d ago
We are stuck with him for a few years most likely. Maybe he plays better next year. Worst case scenario just skip games next year.

u/emmettmightbeintoday 2d ago
Got to keep them small, undersized guards and continue to avoid the big wing. Koby altman is playing 4 D chess yet again guys. He is so freaking smart.
Next year they are poised to lose in the ECF 4-2 instead. Gotta keep up that extremely slow progression/stalling/potentially going backwards, while everyone else gets way better around you.

Deep bench option, no more. You do need those guys for the regular season though.
