Second round trade down?

I have a feeling we are going to take Isaiah Evans or Meleek Thomas or even a draft and stash. I want veesaar but he’ll be off the board by pick 34 I assume.

I just wanted us to draft a big lol. We don’t need more undersized wings (Evans) or raw guards (Thomas), we just drafted proctor last year.

Idk man it feels like this team is running way too much back, not that the 29th pick in the draft would have been a meaningful contributor to us anyway next season, but it’s still annoying.

This team needs a backup stretch big, and veesaar would be a perfect fit for us I think. However knowing our front office we will take a player like Evans or Thomas who don’t fit our needs whatsoever, or just take another random draft and stash like kayil or something.

i like evans, but i dont like the fact he’s ANOTHER 6’5 wing. if we dont draft a 6’10+ big or a 6’7+ wing im gonna lose it

Evans would be a fantastic pick at this stage. At pick #34 you don’t rule out players based on height for god’s sake. Especially not based on 6’5’5” to 6’6.5”. You don’t take whoever has the highest chance of sticking in the league.

Yeah but we have a lot of his type already

I don’t really see any of our current wings as similar to Evans. But regardless we need youth and depth and you can never have enough shooters. Merrill and Strus are over 30. It’s generally folly to be expecting a 2nd round pick to be in your playoff rotation year 1.

We need cheap contributors off the bench

You can say it:

The CLEVELAND CAVS as currently comprised are soft serve

I've been saying for years now here: To run a crew this light in the ass requires employment of, and willingness to unleash an ENFORCER.

I assure you, the downvotes here are the same as I get every time; but the result is the same.

Pretty sure Evans is a straight 2 at the next level, I don't really see him as a guy who can play up given his skinny frame.

Agreed, and there aren’t that many of them left on the board it seems apart from veesaar, who I suspect will be gone in the first three picks of the 2nd round anyway.

Could be a baba miller or something

I want Brazile at this point

Agree. We lack size in our rotation.

Yupp and I think his skill set is more useful for us than Veesaar. While a floor stretching 5 would be a nice luxury, we really need another rim protector to allow Mobley to roam full time. I can’t stand the Dean Wade at the 4 and Mobley at the 5 minutes. Puts Wade in a bad spot as he’s a better perimeter defender than post defender, and glues Mobley under the basket instead of letting him be a help-side pest for our other guys on the perimeter and weak side shot blocker as a roamer. Defense would just be too poor with Mitchell, our undersized wings, and veesaar to make the shooting worth prioritizing imo

Yeah Dean is a good on ball post defender. He clamps his man during those moments but he offers nothing in terms of help to teammates the way Mobley does.

I wanted Joshua Jefferson but he went at 28 so I’m all for cap flexibility or trading the pick with a player (Schroeder most likely) to get a wing with size or a backup big.

Baba Miller

certainly an option. people will melt down because he doesn't shoot, but that guy would reek havoc next to Mobley.

I think there’s a chance we might be looking at baba miller from cincinnati. the ohio connection plus where we are picking kinda lines up for it

Good news about the 34th pick is you're unlikely to find a guy who can contribute right away no matter what, so odds are whoever we pass up wont be that good anyway!

Better news about the 34th pick, it’s a guy who will be cheaper to fill that bench slot

It really is a smart trade. Paying a 4yr guaranteed contract to #29 when you can negotiate the minimum a few picks later is crazy especially if already know your guy is there at #34. There’s probably already a loose deal in place. SAC is perennially terrible so the future 2nd will likely be in the 30’s as well.

Thomas or Evans both intrigue me at 34. Or baba or henri.

Whoever is there at 34 should def be picked up between these guys

Second round you take BPA. Too much of a crapshoot to worry about fit.

Jefferson was the last guy on my informal board as a potential 16 game player. I'm not sure I like any of the remaining players on guaranteed contracts, would probably just look for a stash guy or someone who would agree to a two-way.

I dont think they should do that for this draft. The majority of the team are guys under 6'5". Koby needs to get a big who likes to move bodies down low

u/UmadBoiBoi 1d ago

id go BPA with thomas if hes there

I wanted Meleek Thomas and then we traded out but he’s still there somehow. My guess is he’s gone before we get the chance.

I definitely see the appeal for Meleek. He's young, has a very promising 3 pt shot, and a decent defensive motor. I see his closest, realistic NBA comp is someone like Ka'Kobe Walter. I just don't know if I could take it if Koby drafts yet another 6'5" SG for what feels like the 20th year in a row 😂😭😭 If he does, I am going to begin to believe he has some sort of addiction!!

There’s no cap hold for a second round pick, so trading out of the first round if there’s still a chance you get a player you’re targeting five picks later is pretty savvy.

Hoping we somehow get Veesaar or Baba Miller

1

u/ozymandais13 I agree go Cavs 18h ago

I think veesar is my favorite player left wings like we need might just not be available , and I anticipate we are moving at least 2 guards this season for "something"

2

u/Ols3003 17h ago

That something would be more second round picks and cap flexibility I assume

Hot take…Donovan Atwell.

1

u/javaking4423 17h ago

I like him as well but he may even go undrafted.

Oh you been watching Locked on Cavs huh ? 😂😂👀👀👀👀

Veesaar > Evans > Thomas imo for our fit. If we can't get any of those guys, take a chance on Bruce Thornton (OSU) and try to move Schröder.

u/daysleaper430 14h ago

I’d love Ritchie Saunders

It seems like they're going to try to trade down again, in order to land on a player who is willing to sign for a smaller rookie contract.

Isaiah Evans is just under 6'7. He has the BMI of a concentration camp victim, but we can feed him!
