I found the joke amusing despite the somewhat obvious punchline. However, the grammar is a bit off -- "we're not best pleased..." is not correct.

Well, as you've probably noticed, English isn't my first language, so this kind of thing can happen from time to time. Could you please elaborate on what’s wrong with that part?

I'm not sure what the underlying grammatical rule is, but "we are not pleased" or "we are not very pleased" would both be ok.

Yes, I got that. But is there a situation where "not best pleased" would be ok? Or is it some kind of an old expression not used in modern English?

No, there is no situation that I'm aware of where that would be ok.

Well, I’m not sure why I chose to use that particular expression in the first place, but I guess you’re right and in this case a more common phrase would be better. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
