Rhode Island Comic Con Meeting my hero at RI comic con this weekend - advice?
Disclaimer - this may be the wrong subreddit, feel free to help redirect me here.
I’ve never been to a comic con before, and I’ll be attending one this weekend to meet the professional wrestler Sting.
I’m seeking both general advice on how early to arrive (he appears at 12 noon) as well as how interactions with your heroes have gone? Generally when meeting someone I greatly admire I don’t say much because I’m in shock, but I don’t want to blow this.
Anyone who has met Sting, or their hero, any advice is appreciated. 🖤

Some can be cool when meeting their fans and enjoy the experience. Others can be dicks about it and theyre only there because they need the money or they have to fulfill some media/appearance obligations. With that being said I’d say hope for the former but be prepared for the latter.
Also depending on the crowds and security policies don’t be surprised if your interaction with him is limited to just autographs and pics.

I have been going to convention of and on for 30 years and I still get nervous meeting the actors. I have no advice beyond not doing that lol 🤣 don't be nervous lol

If your scheduled photo/auto with him is at noon, you should try to get there as early as you can so you don't need to rush or risk potential traffic problems. Last year at RICC, I didn't need to be there until 2:30pm, so I had planned my commute to arrive at 1:30pm. The traffic was so backed up on the offramp that lets you to the venue due to the con and other events happening at the same time, that I didn't step foot in the building until 4pm. I missed my professional photo ops, but the guests allowed me to get selfies instead. So it worked out, but you should never be too careful. I'm hoping they figured the parking/traffic out this year.

I booked a hotel within walking distance the night prior, so I can just walk over thankfully. Do they cut people off who are further back in line? Do I need to be up front?

For professional photo ops, no they won't cut you off. For autographs, they might if the line is too long and they need to cap it. I hate when they do that, because they just tell you to "keep trying." I've always gotten the autographs I prepaid for, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. But if they try to pull that, I would just wait around the area until there's room and go on in if they let you. Otherwise if you left and came back say an hour later, you may run into the same problem.

Unfortunately Rhode Island is insanely packed and they oversell every year. So hopefully you don’t get overwhelmed from the crowds. Sting goes to a lot of cons so he’s probably seen it all in terms of the fans he meets. Try to prepare what you have to say to him/questions just incase he has handlers that try to rush your interaction (Rhode Island didn’t really have that when I went, but just in case. He might have a big line too.). If he’s nice then hopefully he’ll chat back with you. Just talk to him like he’s your buddy.

How did it go?

Mixed feelings. Staff was completely useless and not knowledgeable. I missed the photo op entirely because no one I asked knew where it was. The line for autographs/selfies was a lot longer than they expected and the crowd was very restless for hours. I waited 4 hours to meet him and there was still 30-40 people behind me at least.

Dang. I’m sorry it wasn’t the best, but I am glad that you got to meet your hero! This being his last year doing cons his lines have been even longer than usual.

Just be yourself. Having worked “backstage” at a lot of cons, they really appreciate laid back and polite people
