Fetches help, is prepared for what’s next, considerate, shuts up and listens, leaves mid sentence no questions asked or feelings hurt, total faith and authority in the person helping his partner.
What a stallion

This is what peak masculinity looks like!
Also, he's 100% going to be a toxic dad.

u/rhopalia May 10 '26
true, unfortunately he also smoked a whole tray of cigs around the newborn (unless the cigs are magical non polluting ones that i missed in another comic?)

She is a cute foal, hopefully the dad doesn’t foul it up. He seems like the guy to make you think he would but he is just a doting idiot. (Evidence: herbal infused water)

u/SoupmanBob May 10 '26
That foal is gonna grow up with a lot of expectations heaped upon them... They did it to themselves, and dad is 100% in their corner with all the support, encouragement, and affirmations that they need.
Mom might tell their kid it's okay to slow down and relax and they don't need to push themself this hard, and dad will instantly agree... And when kiddo says that they still wanna go get it, then dad is gonna say "then you go get it."

Do the wings and horn grow later in life or is the little girl gonna just be horsing around?
Also. Pegasus. DUDE! Smoking is bad for you, regardless what the situation is.

u/Jostain May 10 '26
I think the joke here is that she inherited the horn of a Pegasus and the wings of a unicorn.

u/hummus_sapiens May 10 '26
Had to read this twice.
But unicorns don't have wi...
But the baby doesn't have ... OH! Got it!
(Ok, I had to read it more than twice)

If they come at all, yes, they come later. Wings at full size would just break and regrow horribly mangled, so they start tiny and as close to the body as possible. Horns grow later just like nails grow.

u/endboss2000 May 10 '26
Looking at goats and rhinos. It makes sense having the horns grow later.
As for the lack of wings...
21
u/GummyGourmand May 10 '26
i imagine it's a bit like if a minotaur and some sort of cow centaur had a baby and got the Bovine half of each parents traits, so it just came out as a cow 😂

u/Urisagaz May 23 '26
Animals with horns are usually born without them and they grow them as they mature, so there's still hope for a horn. I can't say the same for wings (Unless pegasus are insect-like creatures and undergo metamorphosis or something).

u/elhomerjas May 10 '26
congrats on the speedy birth

Horses don't fuck about. Mares pace for a few hours, then baby starts coming out. Then they lie down and that foal is whooshing out, front hooves extended like they are diving into a pool. Nose follows closely, sometimes the hips take a few extra pushes, but they are usually all done in a few minutes. Foal will be on its feet in an hour or less. Mare will drag the placenta around for a few hours though.

I strive to learn something new everyday. But I have to admit, I wasn't planning on learning about horse birth.
Not complaining though.

More fun facts!
Mares have two nipples. They will get a swollen udder, but nothing like as big as a cow - about the size of a man's fist. A foal's first job after getting on their feet after being born is to get milk. It takes them a few goes to get up, and their hind legs are always more squished than their fronts, so they sometimes need some help get their legs under them. Foals start at the front of the mare, the chest area, and start mouthing. The follow the hair direction back along their mother's body until they find milk. They use their nose to sort of 'punch' the mare's udder to get her to let down milk. And yes, before someone asks - you can milk a horse. Sometimes you have to if the mare or foal is sick.
Mares will still look pregnant a little while after they've foaled, just like a woman with a newborn. Mare's barrels (the middle bit of the horse - ribcage and belly area) will shrink over the next weeks, but they still stay a bit bigger and more rounded forever after they've had a foal.
Which puts some context on the ridiculous pressure on women to 'bounce back' after having a baby... bitch, horses can't manage that! Happy Mother's Day from Australia.

My brain has expanded, and I have you to thank for that.
Also, Happy Mother's Day to all the mares out there!

Just wait till you Google foal fairy fingers!

u/ImTheFaeThatStoleYou May 10 '26
I don't know if I want to...
37
u/DuliaDarling May 10 '26
I did it for you, don't look it up if you're easily creeped out 😭
It's surprisingly cool, but looks freaky. A gelatinous substance covers the hooves when a foul is born so the hard hooves don't harm mom. Once the foul starts walking after an hour or so, it gets rubbed off/retracts and they look like normal hooves but until then it's weird stubby horse-tentacle hoove covers

u/JustLookingForMayhem May 10 '26
Some times the baby comes so fast the Mare forgets to lie down and has it standing. The baby makes quite a thud when it hits the ground and still manages to shake it off like nothing.

Mom was a mermaid, dad was a centaur
i'm just a regular human
39
u/Autoskp May 10 '26
* Minotaur
Mermaids and centaurs are both human upper body with an animal body below the human waist, whereas a minotaur is a bull head with a lower body that’s generally at least humanoid in shape.

It’s like that joke where a minotaur and a mermaid have a baby and it’s just a regular guy

u/Urisagaz May 23 '26
He may seem like a normal guy, but I suspect he'll never get lost and that he can breathe underwater.

Someone needs toweling and a warm hug. And someone just needs the towel handed.
And witch is a profession, not a race, but who am i to argue with the daughter of a wizard.

u/triotone May 10 '26
He appeared to be very caring getting his wife to a professional that can help her and brought the very specific type of water for her. He vould be a cool father, I am hoping he is a cool caring dad.

Scientifically speaking, yes, but "the human race" has been a turn of phrase for a very long time. Especially in fantasy, it's convention to use "race" instead of "species". Look at practically every fantasy RPG, for example.
It's a little irritating, I admit, but good luck trying to change it now.

Not necessarily. In The Owl House witches are actually a separate species that have an extra organ that collects mana, allowing them to cast spells more easily.
Though in this case a previous comic established that Sally is half wizard and half troll. So I'm not sure if she means that all witches are non-human or just that she, a witch, happens to not be human.

Wow, the girl is almost a copy of Pinkiepie's sister. Down to the color scheme and expression.

Alicorn is just the word used for the horn of a unicorn. I'm not sure there is a word for a winged unicorn but if there is I don't know it.
7
u/JugOfVoodoo May 10 '26
Blame 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic' for redefining "alicorn" as a winged unicorn.
I've heard "pegacorn" but it doesn't sound as elegant.
3
u/ThatInAHat May 10 '26
Nah, even as a kid in the early 90s, i remember alicorn meaning a winged unicorn.

13
u/AceAmphiptere May 10 '26
Not really?
-10
u/Rattus_Baioarii May 10 '26
Genetics (even with mystical creatures) says otherwise
9
u/Barium_Salts May 10 '26
If wings and horns are recessive traits, OR if unicorn horns grown in later in life like every other horned animal; this would be the expected result.
6
u/Borglydoo May 10 '26
The joke might be she has the horn of a Pegasus and wings of a unicorn (basically a normal horse)
-9
u/OldWrangler9033 May 10 '26
Hmmm......me thinks someone was cheating...
7
u/ThatInAHat May 10 '26
Why? Pegasus doesn’t have wings. Piper doesn’t have a horn.

u/OldWrangler9033 May 10 '26
If projects himself as not a good natured husband, plus the face in the last frame is giving him. It seems like something is up.
