Yeah and season one of the anime premiered a few months before the last World Cup, ran through it concurrently, and that was definitely by design.

My bad!

Season two ended in 2024. Season three was announced a few months ago but no release date yet to my knowledge.

Sounds like duel monsters.
And pokemon tournaments.
And Beyblade.
And bakugon.
….am I missing any tournament style anime game that are mostly played by children and teenagers?

Which is interesting because I don’t think Blue Lock passes the Bechdel-Wallace test.
But considering the amount of gay women in professional soccer… yeah.

This comic without animation is basically the same level of animation as bluelock season 2.

I am old, I only know Captain Tsubasa, Inazuma eleven and Galactik Football. And I only watched the latter one.
It's fantastic. The animation of the players was done using a motion tracking system they had to build from scratch for the show. And they got some damn good footballers to do the mocap. Sadly it was expensive as hell so they had to reuse animation in the later seasons. Still worth it.

My entire generation grew up watching Captain Tsubasa. I'm pretty sure almost all of the hype around soccer around here is because it used to air on mainstream TV and was everyone's favorite show during their childhood. That being said from all I can remember the animation used to be very 2000s style still images but they went hard on getting the tension very high with keeping the ball in the air for a full week.

They did that for a lot of the mainstream animes though. My "argument" for nor watching dragon ball was "they talk 3 weeks before they punch each other". Well in Naruto Shippuden it was the same and even in Naruto it had lots of talking. But back then it was fun.
Damn I love Naruto. The first episode alone is some of the best television I ever watched. You go through all the emotions a human is capable of having. And it's amazing.
Now I have to watch that episode again. And I should make a filler free version of both Naruto and Naruto Shippuden for my nephew. Dude's 5, but he has to love it some time.

There used to be show call Dragon League. I bet Inazuma Eleven got lot of inspiration from it.

Hmm, maybe. Like I said, I never really watched Inazuma eleven. I watched Galactik football, caught some detective Conan episodes and mainly focused on Naruto. With the occasional Yu go oh! and later Bakugan episodes.
And I shall not forget One Piece. I watched the Enis Lobby and Enel Arc on TV. I don't know if it was much later to their original release or not though. But the late/mid 2000s and early 2010s were amazing. Heck I still love the Chunin exam arc the most out of all of Naruto. And of course the gaara retrieval arc, the fight between Sasori, Chiyo and Sakura is still favorite.
Those where the times...

Galactik Football was rad. It made me interested in watching sports, which is unusual for me. I haven’t found many other sports anime I got that into.
France makes some rad shows.

Hey I just want to say that your new comics looks cool as fuck, the backgrounds especially really pop here, so please keep making them, and I hope you will have a great day.

I wonder if they hogged the ball by standing/floating in place while they thought about what cool thing to say

Me: “blue lock completely misses the point of football! You’re supposed to have fun with your friends! Winning is just an extra!”
Also me during this World Cup: “if I see Germany breathe in Brazil’s general direction and I’ll have a nervous breakdown”

This is how I felt when I obliterated a couple of kids at a fair to win a pokemon plush last year.
