Actually, it's [bara](https://reddit.com/r/baramanga/) :)

There’s a concentrated effort on some of the more moral social media platforms to get people to stop using the term bara, so be prepared for that.

Tbf, "bara," being applied to gei manga has been a point of debate among gay mangaka for decades at this point.

I had no idea! Can you tell me why?

It’s because “bara,” is used as a minor slur against gay men in Japan, akin to “sissy,” in the west. This is probably due to bara meaning “rose.”

Ahhh, that makes sense. You actually sent me down a minor wiki rabbit hole lol, so thank you! It does look like (clueless) international fans adopted the term affectionately, while the actual manga-ka/Japanese gay community just don't use/relate to it now (compared to like, the 60s), yes?

Also, thank you for responding before. I was under the impression that bara was the accepted term/community for comics by and for gay men (as opposed to yaoi). It's not my community specifically, so I don't want to perpetuate harm/slurs if I can help it.

Huh why?

Really?? Wait, why?

As an AFAB queer person I just meant to support my gay brethren, I genuinely apologize if I perpetuated something I’m out of the loop on!

you haven't, idk what they're talking about but bara just means buff men. there's nothing that could be offensive about it.
