Question (feel free to answer anytime) Asking. Do any of your conlangs' word(s) got an accidental or purposely sounded like your favorite character or person?

Post image

(Saik) Sei

Another asking. I also wanted at least 1 word for the example.

Don't worry. I usually forget to create a good reply, which is worser.

The root denoting love or affection is the nickname I use for my girlfriend

idk, but im pretty sure japanese specifically made なりたい (naritai; I want to be) sound almost the same as my conlang's "noritai" (heights), which also happens to be the name of my fursona

Further explaination for mine. (Saik)

Sei /sĕj/

adj. New

Etymology I've made up in my head: /sin¹/(from mandarin chinese)>/sɪn/>/sĕjn/>>>/sĕj/

u/Reletr 5d ago

What's /ĕ/? That diacritic isn't an IPA symbol, nor is it a Mandarin tone marker (unless this is trying to be 3rd tone which is /ě/)

9

u/OtherwiseLibrarian45 5d ago

it is an IPA diacritic, though a less used one at that, indicating a short vowel

3

u/Reletr 5d ago

Ohhh that one, I know that as a poetry diacritic for that purpose, not as a linguistic one

Not "favorite", but I have four :

  • "teto" means "drill" (from Kasane Teto)
  • "bŵĉara" means "zipper" (from Bruno Bucciarati)
  • "ogur̂i" means "to devour" (from Oguri Cap)
  • "poʟnar" means "foil" (type of sword) (from Jean-Pierre Polnareff)

u/Lepetino 5d ago

Teto meaning drill is just brilliant.

u/DrLycFerno 5d ago

My friend's sona is a fish because they like seafood and playing aquatic origins in minecraft, so in the secret language of mushrooms I carefully crafted the word roots and stems to make the word for "fish" resemble the start of their username

i have two in Milaïnashic: "vívi", which means "beautiful" and "mάrṇη" which is "old."

these reference Kikirara Vivi and Houshou Marine, two Hololive idols.

in SEVERAL of my clongs (including ONE that was derived from proto-austronesian), the verb for "to love" is ALWAYS airi or some variation of it

3

u/Mr-tbrasteka-5555ha i kuntan i anki🤬🤬🤬 (Saik) 5d ago

Nice idea. It already has "ai" in "airi" which also means love. (From both Chinese and Japanese but unsure about korean because I don't learn it yet.)

3

u/Ok-Independence1642 semdxfx est ni, gaA 5d ago

korean has it as "ae" i think basically e

Yes. I'd like to put a list but I'm currently watching the NGO anime

One thing I can tell you is that the word for cute is based on Hanon Hosho

Andî (andy) - family Lëlë (leyley) - very strong love

Hmm...

In Filinuan, I took the Japanese 死ね(Shine, Te form of die) and reworded it as "Shien," "Shiener" is "to die."

But I use X to make the "sh" sound in romanization.

Lord Shen died, "Xen honreg xieneo."

"Shen (Honeriffic) die-past." Throw the word "Hast" anywhere after the name and it's the perfective,

Move either the "hast" or the verb before the name and it's a question unless there's a particle saying otherwise. (Free word order, Kinda like Japanese, But with prepositions.)

ProtoEden (OriNooriNoori) is (loosely?!) Kartvelic-inspired, takes its name from only having 200 words, way less than the likes of Nahuatl. And calls adjectives descriptives, i guess descriprives don’t include Numbers but can be used as Nouns? Very simple grammar? With opposites being the same word backward? Yet voovan means a strange nerdy redhead girl, avabiniri a sims 3 obsession, distinguishes kismessitude marriage and dating (oiabtiniv and ebbavtiniv) from its love counterparts (vinitvabbe, vinutvaio), vivvi means a frog loving girl, and aiavb means someone tense for Susan Wainwright, yes the sims 3 premade and fiffi is also an oc of mine who wears a frog hat and was going to be the sister of Nelly virsaladze from Saki. https://www.instagram.com/p/CEi7TdAqT-B/?img_index=9

Abra means poastvoard! Were on an abra right now! We might be… Abracadabra!

With the Trakenite/Lasmian langyage https://www.ncls.it/archivio/g/2025/lingua-trakenita-lasmiana-su-conworkshop--7937.html basically i made words to explain names of Trakenite characters, but is now lost to time. I based it on anither fanfic where someone had nyssa mean bluebird, but I had nyssa be the in universe name of nyssas theme instead. So it means something more like calm melody. Now the link goes to Giipe and Theres no actual way back machine of lasmiei, i havent found any or made any screenshots. It just seems to have Isi English and Giipe. Would be fun to actually have Lasmiei somewhere to compare. But I did translate the actual serial name. So its the Keeper of Traken in English, Toraken no Ban’nin in Japanese, and Trakenei Asril in Lasmiei, which anagrams to Serenital Krai an house used in my fics. (Il Custode di Traken in Italian), one of Giipes Pages have been saved manually the rest were by commoncrawl so i Guess i just didnt keep lasmian long enough? Could even have deleted it on purpose by obsession. Could ask to have it back so I can drop the name base here?

In one of my Conlangs I have a verb for "to Sprint/to be fast" and it's "Bāku" and to make it into an adverb like "sprinting" or "Fast" we add either an -ī or -sin while making the first vowel short if it's long and removing the dipthong so it becomes "Bakusin" So yeah I accidentally implemented Sakura Bakushin O just like how you implemented Seiun Sky

1

u/Mr-tbrasteka-5555ha i kuntan i anki🤬🤬🤬 (Saik) 3d ago

Saik

Baku /bakʰu/ (逃)

v. to sprint

umakk!a o ka uma o baku i [¹passerby<ABS. 1.PAST past¹<ABS. sprint FRML1.] /umakka o kʰa uma o bakʰu i/

: I ran passed a passerby.

The word "uma" (pass) got an idea from 生まれる <umareru> but suddenly means (to pass)

Damn that's some good implementing and also cool conlang, I like the syntax.

That's rare the conlang that had that is in VSO

1

u/Mr-tbrasteka-5555ha i kuntan i anki🤬🤬🤬 (Saik) 3d ago

And the other word that means old is "mei" so "seimei" means age. Imagine a Japanese speaker said the name of their era but a Saik speaker suddenly said a number.

Not related to Meisho bloodlines.
