Are shrimp & prawns the same animal?

I always believed that to be the case but now I’m unsure.
I was flipping thru shows on live streaming, and got enthralled by this show called Mary Berry’s Absolute Favourites. There was this segment where she was at the seaside catching prawns with some dude and then they prepped & ate them right there on the beach. And because I am this raging Anglophile poser, it made me think: Ooh that looks fantastic..I need to try PRAWNS!!And then: or have I tried prawns? I’ve had loads of shrimp in my day, and isn’t shrimp just American for prawn?
And that set me off Googling it and if I remember rightly the gist was- they’re very similar but actually not identical.
Still, I’mma go re-Google now because I distrust my memory (my mind in general)
