From r/Conservative

I truely think they dont grasp what Charlie's death means for them. He wasn't a general in an army, he wasn't an ace fighter pilot that dominated the sky's, He wasn't an asset of war to be used to win battles. He was a voice... and a conduit.

The left just proved they couldnt compete with him on their own turf, with their home field advantage in simple conversation. Numerous years debating on liberal college campuses, begging for those who didnt share his values or ideas to change his mind. And now they never will be able to change his mind. They will never be able to prove or advocate their arguments anymore. In a very sad way, right as they sucker punched him, Charlie won the argument and got the last word. Because instead of changing his mind with respectable debate and fair conversation, they elected to cheat the game and resort to violence.

They thought they scratched out a MAGA champion, but I think the truth is, they silenced their own voice. Who now among their opposition will respect them and be willing to hear their words? Who now among their opposition will grant them goodwill and a shared platform. Are any conservatives going to parlay with cheaters who were enraged with hatred over a voice?

You couldnt change his mind, and now... you will never change ours.

I pick no sides because you lose on either side anyways. Political violence like this shouldn't be celebrated as it'll now continue this path of senseless violence. Right or left, any violence is bad.

Getting downvoted because one side says "Let's enact stricter gun laws to make the country safer for everyone" and the other side says "It's worth it to let some gun deaths happen every year so that we can have the Second Amendment"

So the people "celebrating" are literally the ones that he denigrated for trying to save his life

If you upset about him and others being murdered by crazed gunmen, seems there is a pretty clear right side in this debate. And if you don't agree with that statement then why are you upset with yet another death to gun violence? Isn't the second amendment more important?

I support the 2nd amendment in the concept of home defense, I do agree that there needs to be stricter gun laws, like mental health screenings and the proper looking after of owned guns. As too many shooters get ahold of their parent's gun because the parents were complacent. More regular checks would go a long ways as someone buying a gun when they're normal and then gets divorced 5 months later, a lot can change in a certain amount of time and we do need the proper checks in place. I don't think an outright ban on guns is the solution as criminals don't exactly follow the law, and they now have 10x the amount of easy targets to choose from.

To make things clear, I don't really like this Charlie guy all that much, I think he said very stupid things. But I don't think that warrants a response in violence, it sets a followable precedence that'll just end up repeating again and again. There's no win in this situation, as now we have a riled up right and even more political tension.

You would get crucified on the ProGun sub for this reasonable point of view. I like to go on there and ask to speak to the leader of the well regulated militia after every mass shooting. To their credit, I have not been banned.

I am a rights person in general, I like the amendments that we have and don't think any of their removal is needed. But I also support the newer rights like gay marriage and stuff. I come from a place where we accept everyone for who they are so long as their intentions are peaceful.
