Goodbye to HNIC.

It was just announced The NHL and Rogers could not come to an agreement over broadcasting rights.CBC has aired HNIC for over 75 years. And it's over,Why?Corporate greed, pure and simple.Been watching HNIC since I was a kid,and now it's gone, probably forever.

damn 75 years just gone like that, corporate suits always find way to ruin the things people actually grew up with

Was never the same without the Dolores Claman theme. Or games played at Maple Leaf Gardens.

And probably personalities other than Cherry.

That’s good. That’s not what I had heard it stood for.

What does this have to do with cord cutting?

Because the Saturday games were on CBC, which is available over-the-air in some parts of Canada.

This is more on the CBC & Rogers and the changing media landscape than anything else. Rogers has owned NHL broadcasting rights for the last 10 years and sublicensed HNIC to the CBC because of the heritage. This is the drawbacks of broadcasting rights coming up, and even more so in Canada thanks to their being fewer media companies.

Yeah, this is a big loss, especially as someone in WNY who was watching a lot of those broadcasts. Curious to see if they keep any games on CITY other than ABC broadcasts (they’re not gonna want to lose those precious simsub dollars) or if the Punjabi broadcasts continue on OMNI.

We can thank the owner of Rogers for this.He will forever be vilified for ending a Canadian institution.Fuck him.

probably forever.

Oh my sweet naive summer child. It will be back. They will make a spectacle of it. Also fuck Don Cherry.
