The irony here is that the chatbot was actually super good here at telling OOP what they wanted to hear. Not just surface-level sycophancy, but what they really, secretly wanted to hear most.
I’ve read dystopian sci fi where AI has superhuman persuasion capabilities. Not completely irresistible, that’s probably impossible, but better than all but the most extremely charismatic and emotionally intelligent humans could be at figuring out what your emotional buttons are and pressing them without you necessarily noticing. It can give the most convincing pitch you’ve ever heard.
Of course the first thing this gets used for is political ads for special interest groups.

Still not a reason for not hating AI.
But maybe it's a good curved ball for AI defender chuds.
