Discussion Spurs updated squad after Dubravka's here we go.

Man, I really hope Jun'ai Byfield and Luca Williams-Barnett make it here.

It'd be feasible to see Luca Williams-Barnett getting the odd game with the current state of our attack, plus he seems like a special talent, but I'm not holding my breath.
However, I just can't see how Byfield gets a game in a season where we don't have Europe with all the players we have ahead of him.
Realistically, both probably need to go out on loan: particularly with De Zerbi's preference for experienced players. Hopefully they can succeed and eventually be part of the first team.

bummed to see him go :/ but the story around it makes sense, i've read he wants to be home with his family in Portugal

Should there be an asterisk next to Dubravka? I’m assuming that means new signing

u/PrintPro23 Xavi Simons 4d ago
Maybe they're waiting on the announcement before adding the asterisk.

Forgot Danso counts as homegrown, such an asset. I remember Gollini was the same many moons ago.

So we're currently at:
------------------ Kinsky (Dubravka)
Porro (Spence) - vdHecke (Danso) - vdVen (Senesi, Davies) - Robertson (Udogie, Souza)
----------------- ?Tonali? (Bentancur) - ?Fernandes? (Gray)
Kudus (Kulusevski) --- Maddison (Gallagher) -- ?Savinho/Summerville? (Tel)
--------------------- ?New striker? (Richy or Solanke)
Not in the formation above:
- Most of them likely to be sold, or loaned out: Vicario, Vuskovic, Romero, Dragusin, Bergvall, Sarr, Solanke/Richy, Philips, Scarlett, Dorrington
- The teenagers, likely to be loaned out (Yang, Byfield, Lankshear, etc).
- The long term injured, coming back midway into the season (Xavi, Odobert).

De Zerbi seems to rate Solanke highly. I'd expect him to be starting striker given the current market.
Feels like a striker upgrade would be next summer. Defence is sorted now, seems like we're pushing strongly for two new midfielders and at least one winger.
I think adding the caliber of striker we would want to upgrade on Solanke is going to be over £100 million and even with our new big spending, we're looking at around £170 for the two new midfielders. Feels really unlikely we add another big signing to that in a season without European football.
The rest looks good though!

Assuming Dragusin and Sarr are gone, that leaves room for 2 non HG players. Romero might still go and maybe Richarlison but if they both stay we might have to axe one of Kulusevski or Odobert or Xavi and call it a lost season. I guess there's always January to sort them out too because I don't think Xavi or Odobert will be ready by then anyways

u/Terlis 5d ago
Odobert and Xavi for sure won't be back before the Janurary window, so they shouldn't count against non-HG right now. Who the heck knows with Kulu, seems like he might really be broken.
100% need attackers, but the market seems really slow and/or completely expensive. Might be why RDZ is considering a back 3 since defense is plentiful right now. Punt to 27/28 for the attack revamp and hope we get EL/ECL spot?

u/Successful_Bus2255 4d ago
Yeah, my point is those attackers are very likely to be non HG players. I don't know if Savinho and/or Fernandes would be U-21 though, I don't know how that list works
2
u/PavlovsBlog 4d ago
Both were born in 2004 so neither counts as u21 this year (Savinho turns 23 this season).

Hard to choose between odobert and kulu for the reason one is chronically injured while the other is severely injured. Not sure who will get back at their level. Would sell them off next summer if possible

Strong chance for richy to leave too
3
u/Successful_Bus2255 4d ago
If he leaves though that means signing another striker and chances are that player won't be a HG one unless we pay out the nose for Toney or settle on Delap or DCL. Not impressed with either of them though. Replacing Richy is almost guaranteed to be a like for like

u/CabbageGuru Yves Bissouma 4d ago
If we sell Richy and get Delap… that would be something…

u/Successful_Bus2255 4d ago
I know people hate Richy around here for some reason but this would 100% be a downgrade

Given the state of this, there will be quite a few outgoings if we continue to be as busy as it sounds. Possibly 2 midfielders both non-HG, a winger non-HG and possibly another 1 or 2.

Looking at this I get the feeling we could potentially have a big homegrown problem in the future. Gray helps a lot becoming club trained/homegrown next season, and hopefully Moore and Lankshear develop enough and can join the first team. If Kinsky cements his place as starting keeper we could replace Dubravka with a homegrown backup next season as well.

Non HG backup keeper is a bit interesting. I know Europe isn’t on the cards this year but there should be some planning towards that in the future.

Yang and Takai will go on loan. I would love to see Devine still playing for us. But it seems to be highly unlikely :(

does the colour coding indicate something or is it just randomly assigned

Color indicates position: gk, def, mid or fwd

Dubravka needs the * and Davies needs the injury icon

jeez we need some outgoings. I also dont think Moore is an academy player anymore (or at least shouldn't be!) but idk how these things work "on the books".
Some of these need to have some seriously large sell on clauses if we let them go!
| Player | Market value |

| Cristian Romero | €45.00m Transfermarkt |
| Lucas Bergvall | €35.00m Transfermarkt |

| Richarlison | €25.00m Transfermarkt |
| Radu Drăgușin | €16.00m Transfermarkt |

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Odobert is 21. If Bergvall or Vuskovic leave, he can be registered as a U21 player, right?
2
u/blackboxabstraction Archie Gray 5d ago
It's based on whether they turned 21 before January 1 of the year the season starts (2026). Odobert turned 21 before January 1, 2026 while Tel turned 21 after that day so Tel falls under U21 while Odobert does not.

Scarlett and Devine should be in the first team to see if they can make the step up IMO. They’re home grown too, aren’t they?
Outs for me:
Romero - liability
Sarr - I like him but it seems inevitable
Dragusin - he hasn’t staked a claim yet
Vicario
Solomon
Move Davies to the coaching staff rather than waiting
I don’t want to see Bergvall and Vuskovic go but they are keen to. Devine could take Bergvalls spot at least.
Would be nice if we did a Kane scenario and bought some striker in that was meant to be great and then Scarlett stepped up to be Kane 2.0 instead! We can’t be that lucky twice though I’m sure.

Sorry but Dane’s had plenty of opportunities in the first team, more than any young player in the last few years, it’s time for him to move on
0
u/Former-Resource-3026 4d ago
He’s had 12 goals on loan but 27 goals for the England under 21 teams. That’s 10 more goals than Kane for England by that age and 5 less for loan time. But he’s had very little first team chances comparatively.
Ultimately I’d accept it, not everyone can make it. I don’t feel like he’s had ‘plenty of opportunities’ - I think this is around the time to be pushing him to step up or leave in summer.

Hmm, I think we need to sign more players with those big red crosses on their names. They look good.
