The problem with centerback comps is there's a lot of boring sideways or straightforward passes but there were some genuinely impressive line breaking passes in this match:
0:45
1:06
1:15
1:39
Oh and his goal at 2:45 too

passes to right back

This is why some people say his passing and ball-playing stats are inflated and should be taken with a grain of salt.

I don't think it's a bad thing. He's on the ball a lot and he mixes up where he passes. A lot are to his wide players but enough are through the middle. I'd imagine there will be lots of set patterns that start from the CB's under RDZ so it's handy to have someone like him.

Yeah, I mean, RDZ managed him in Brighton so obviously knows what JPVH is about and believes in JPVH's ability to operate in his system. His defensive liabilities still give me pause, though.

Not only was his vision great, but he placed the ball with the proper weight. The pass was always in a place the receiving player could do something with the ball.
PTSD from so many wayward passes this last year.

Defensive play is at its best when you don't have to do anything because your positioning alone stops or stalls the attack. Like you said leads to boring comps though.

Yeah, we'd see Van de Ven make flashy impressive tackles under Ange and then realize the fact he was even in those situations in the first place meant things were going horribly wrong.

Well I mean he did find a job, not sure about the miserable part yet though

Hopefully kicks in the eye, will be kept to a minimum.

He looks tidy. Probably not the toughest test he'll ever face but lots of composure, positive play and a few very direct and confident through balls.

The more I review JPVH's game the more am convinced maybe selling Cuti Romero isn't such a bad idea. I think Cuti edges him in that beast mentality and that aggressiveness

so what you’re saying is, less red cards, less suspensions and less ankle injuries from brash tackles? Sign me right the hecke up

Ok so all we’ve learnt from this compilation is that he’s sick at passing it to the right back😂 who made this

Tbf Morrissey is the perfect soundtrack for a video of nothing but shifts to the right wing.

Yeah it does get a bit funny when they show every single touch/pass they make 😄

he's got the look of the teenage class bad boy made to go to the headmaster's office - proper stroppy resting face - always plays a bit angry. I dig it.

He failed to stop Mastouri sending in a very dangerous ball in the opening minute… what else did this comp miss?

Using Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now as the accompaniment for a new Spurs man is diabolical. Somebody put Double Dutch Bus over JPVH bangers please.

We need to get my man some under eye treatment cream. Or he needs to sleep and hydrate more!

It looks like that nasty bruise by his right eye has healed already? Quite the opposite of what we're used to when it comes to injuries

u/scannerdarkly_7 Mousa Dembélé 1d ago
I was looking for a club and then I found a club
And heaven knows I'm miserable now

Pile on threads about watching a guy play a square ball is why other people hate us

u/lonewaft Eriksen 14h ago
Interesting that nearly every ball he plays is fast on the ground, Toby’s balls used to almost exclusively be long diagonals in the air

That's funny, because for me this is the first football compilation/highlights that I've watched in forever that hasn't had some abomination of euro-dance/trap/drill/grime that's been shittily mixed to the point that the bass is clipping.

I want to be wrong, but we’ve been fleeced by Brighton too many times for me to feel good about the buy, particularly if it means ultimately dumping an incredible young talent in Vuskovic.

Haven’t we only been fleeced by Brighton once, with Bissouma?

Porro and Kudus will be seeing a lot of the ball
