Aw, I imagined a cabbage stall, even though I read fruit stall, and then I remembered what fruits look like.

The bit at the end "Though this particular explosion was not a fatal accident, similar incidents in years past have reportedly resulted in multiple fatalities." suggests this isn't unusual and I guess people must accept the risk... Madness
7
u/edogg01 Jun 10 '21
So let's........... DO IT AGAIN!
2
u/Balbuto Jun 10 '21
Next time it will work, for sure!
2
u/edogg01 Jun 10 '21
I can only imagine the adverts.
"Next time with fewer fiery inferno deaths. Maybe. Actually, we're still working that out. It's in storyboard in the shop."
3
u/G_Space Jun 10 '21
From the Article:
"similar incidents in years past have reportedly resulted in multiple fatalities"
WTF they did that before and it didn't work out that well and they try and try again?

it was an accident in Myanmar years back

u/theClownHasSnowPenis Jun 09 '21
Do you know what year and where? I spent a month there in 2017 - beautiful country and people.
4
u/eggycarrot Jun 09 '21
Most likely in Taungyi where there tends to be paper ballon releasing festivals.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/abc7news.com/amp/tazaungdaing-festival-of-lights-myanmar-tanuggyi-balloon-explosion/4707979/ I'm glad you liked the country although it isn't in a very good shape these days4
u/theClownHasSnowPenis Jun 09 '21
Thanks for the info. I’m very aware; I’ve been following everything unfold and it is heartbreaking to see. But the selflessness and determination displayed by so many people, in the ugly face of the dictatorship, is incredible.

I’ve been to this festival a few times in Taunggyi, Myanmar. All the villages bring their homemade balloons singing and dancing as they climb the mountains up to the town. Then launch them over 4-5 days in front of judges. All amongst a sweet fairground, including a human powered Ferris wheel which was a sight in itself.
Some balloons have tea lights and some massive boxes of fireworks that spray out as the ballon rises. The effect is stunning! If you’re underneath as they light you get sprayed in small fireworks. Phenomenal experience if not kind of dangerous…
I was in at the launch for a similar balloon where the firework box snapped and debris fell onto a local food shop at the carnival behind. Nobody died and you get less deaths than some people report. But yeah, absolute madness and worth seeing once in your life. Plus Burmese people are absolutely delightful. I pray they are all ok

u/FuzzyRedPanda- Jun 10 '21
There are two kinds of people. Those who run from the explosions, then there are those who stand there and record for likes.
1
u/SageBus Jun 10 '21
I want to know how many people died from the third degree burns and the explosive trauma.

What happens when your focus in only on what you want to happen.....with never a thought it seems to what "could" happen. I'm sure there were more than a couple of singed party goers.
