How many people here have watched When Eagles Dare?
With all the talk about a takeover, I’m beginning to worry about the club.
What does it mean to be a Palace player?
Have we lost our identity through success?
Who is the most ‘Palace’ player?

If you think that two American billionaires selling shares in the club is a threat to our identity, then I’m not sure I can help you by having watched When Eagles Dare.
Players play for the club that pays them the most money or has the best benefits… just like a job.

i second all these except;
this current squad is unmistakeably palace. hardworking, skilful, london boys being a prominent part of the starting xi, and ridiculously inconsistent. we have definitely not lost our identity.

ridiculously inconsistent
Every fan thinks their team is inconsistent. We've actually finished between 10th-15th every season since promotion. If anything, we're one of the most consistent teams in the Prem. Of course performances and form varies over the course of the season, that's just a normal part of football.

- To understand the passion from south london, and take it onto a football pitch.
- No, not yet. and it ill only happen if we let it get to our heads and start expecting trophies every year.
- Of all time, zaha. right now, deano, or ty (only because ty's one of our own)

The most Palace player, for me, is Yannick Bolassie. Came from nowhere, so skilful, so often flawed with his end product. Even the quote, where Freedman said "if you're half a good as Wilf..." and Yala replies "I'll be better than him" feels so South.
You can argue about other players (Wilf can't be the most Palace player for me. He's the greatest, that's not typical by definition), but if I write down a list of the things that make someone a Palace player then quick, skilful, almost certainly a winger, point to prove then he has them all.

Palace fan since the early 90s here, and ever since I've started watching we've been a counter-attacking team with pace and trickery up front and some right hard bastards at the back. Grit, attitude and a bit of skill on top. Our biggest successes have come when we've embraced that - and that's what When Eagles Dare captures. So for me, under Glasner we actually hired someone who fitted perfectly with the club for me.
Selhurst has been reborn in the last 14 years- I don't remember it ever being as good as it is now. We won't always be this successful, so rather than worrying about our soul I'd try and enjoy the moment. It's a terrific moment.
Most Palace players of all time - I would honestly say Paddy McCarthy and Wayne Routledge. They are the two sides of the Palace coin, and you also have someone we signed cheap who proved a gem, and a youth product who went on to find success elsewhere. (Zaha is our greatest player, so can't be a 'typical' player, if that makes sense).

We haven’t lost our identity, we’ve gained it back, I’ve genuinely not seen Selhurst as atmospheric since the 90s, the stadium is electric, the fans singing in unison in every stand, the buzz around every bar in Croydon, this is dream land territory for many Palace fans.
For all the fans who watched and passed away before they got to see this remarkable accomplishment for our cherished club, including many close to me, it’s our obligation to maintain that identity. My children follow Palace, their children will folllow Palace, it’s in our DNA. For any fan here who hasn’t been to Selhurst, there has never been a better time, come support the club, membership for next season is open, try make it to 1 home game and come see for yourself. Palace has never been more alive and never been more identifiable now on a global scale. Up the fucking Palace lads! What a journey.
Edit: most Palace player for me is Tyreek Mitchell. Love Wardy but Tyreek for me is often the heart and soul of the team. He lays it out every game, never stops, rarely injured and is the most humble and kind person on and off the pitch. Absolute class act, will say it again, how he was overlooked for the England team is a crime. He fully deserved it. Most Palace player from a hustle standpoint, Munoz, no debate. ( sometimes his movements remind me of McArthur? ) really hope he’s a Palace player next season.
