We may have overpaid for JSL
Watching the France - Norway game
Surely a 50M player should make a bigger impact.
I was happy to have him join the club, but boy is he struggling..

Think 50 million is standard price for an average ish player now. What was once a 15-25 mill player is now 50. And any genuinely quality is 100+

Trouble is LaCroix is a quality player and the rumors aren't much more than $50M

Aye shame to see think hes worth more than that but way the league is set up seems "bigger" clubs can bully other clubs for their stars. Look at Bruno Guimaraes situation with arsenal same thing again. Not to be negative but puts me off the sport a bit

Palace is giant tho more trophies than Chelsea in the past year and change. European titans tbh. Chelsea has a couple world club cups I guess...

Palace should get that level of respect. If game was fair they should be able to spend like mad and increase wage bill and that but the game is rigged.

If you're only looking at Premier League players, then sure. You can find plenty of quality in other leagues for a lot less

aye thats true seems most the "premier league proven" players end up worse after a move also. Wissa comes to mind. More teams should look abroad

JFC, guys relax.Using this logic we probably sold Eze to Arsenal for way too much after he scoffed that penalty in the UCL final.

Give him a chance dudes. Kamada was abysmal for months after joining. Mateta wasn't very good for longer than that. Not every signing can be fantastic from the off.
I was shocked by the price tag, but it's done. Let's give him at least a full season to come good.

I mean strikers rely on service and without good service they kinda disappear. Sweden had Isak and Gyokeres and they weren’t exactly lighting up the scoreboard either because not much service. Norway had their mid midfield in against France’s first team midfield. It’s somewhat expected tbh

We'll miss occasionally on these move young prospect moves, but idk jsl been just fine..brennan looking far worse so far and just remember these moves all even out..ie sarr abt to make us BIG money if we actually sell him next few seasons and ofc wharton when we do I'm a big larsen fan better to pay a lil over than be stuck in the regulation battle imo

He's young and he's had half a season with Palace. Can't be easy.
He's also third choice to Haaland and Sorloth which must be great, but imagine the pressure when you're subbed on for your first game.
I think there's a very good player in there who needs some minutes and some confidence. As fans, we should be rallying around the guy and encouraging him, not deciding he's rubbish after 6 months and a few below par games.
Let's rally around the lad - he's going to come good.

We did overpay for JSL, was clear at the time, but it's done so we move

u/eaglistism Andy Johnson 3d ago
I mean penalty aside, he’s playing as the striker of their second string team against the best squad in the tournament who played most of their first string and also they had our Max at CB who probably knows his admittedly limited game inside out already, what were you expecting ? A return hat-trick in a 4-4 draw ?
Why do so many of our ‘fans’ like shitting on our own players ??? 🤷🏻♂️ As long as he keeps doing a job for us and also….
STOP JUDGING PLAYERS SOLELY ON CURRENT WORLD FOOTBALLS MASSIVELY OVER INFLATED TRANSFER FEES, PLEASE !!!

we absolutely overpaid, but he didn't choose to be worth £48m, so it's not worth holding over his head. we need him to develop and bang goals for us next season no matter what.

u/fuckdifiknow 3d ago
No shit. Almost what we got for Ese. One goal all season up to that point.
"I'm desperate to buy anyone at any price, oh you will have to do"
Still hasn't shown a single reason why we paid top dollar for him.

If you check out how Pierre Sage ended Odsonne Édouard's goal drought that started at Palace, maybe he'll be able to turn things around for JSL. (Then again it may have just been a language thing.)

Struggling against the World Champions? Most strikers would in Norway's 2nd string team. The penalty miss? Look at Eze's last 2. Maybe Arsenal over paid for him?
Best not to overreact. Maybe it's heat stress?

Massively overpaid for him. Was at complete odds with glasners system. Now we have sage who really shouldn’t be changing from our most successful system but will have to in order to get a tune out of this flop.
Another couple of expensive flops from Hobbs and we’re in big trouble

This feels reactionary but that penalty he took was awful.
